TV Alert: "V" invades primetime with Elizabeth Mitchell

Hey, do you like aliens? What if the aliens are really hot? And what if the really hot aliens are being investigated by the really hot Elizabeth Mitchell? Ah-ha, now I have your full attention.

The new alien-invasion series V premieres at 8 p.m. tonight on ABC, bringing with it critical acclaim and the return of Elizabeth’s arched eyebrows. Consider me sold. Also selling me? The first nine minutes which were released as a preview by ABC.

Kind of blows “Look, up in the sky. It’s a bird, it’s a plane!” away, doesn’t it?

In the series, a re-imagining of the 1983 miniseries by the same name, aliens descend en masse to Earth calling themselves the Visitors. They come promising peace and technological secrets. But cut a little deeper and they have creepy green reptilian skin and what might be a considerably more sinister agenda.

In the new version the gorgeous Morena Baccarin plays Anna, the Visitor’s soothing-voiced leader. Firefly fans will remember her as Inara Serra, a high-society courtesan who is friendly with the Serenity crew. In V she makes “Take me to your leader” look incredibly appealing, and I think that’s the point.

Fellow Firefly alum Alan Tudyk (most recently seen as Alpha on Dollhouse) stars as Elizabeth’s FBI partner and Lourdes Benedicto appears as the girlfriend of Morris Chestnut’s character. You might remember her better as Alicia, the girlfriend of Bonnie Somerville’s character on the short-lived Cashmere Mafia.

The reviews have been largely positive, with Elizabeth being called “TV’s go-to gal for strong, brainy women of action,” by Entertainment Weekly. Speaking of action, in a separate interview for Entertainment Weekly, Elizabeth reminisced about kissing Angelina Jolie in Gia, saying her lips were “Pillowy and fabulous. Honestly, you got lost in her lips. It was almost overwhelming, like a peach.”

Um, wow. Hell, I don’t even care about the aliens. I just want to watch Elizabeth and fantasize about her kissing pillowy peach lips. So, what do you think? Are on sold on V? Are you ready for more Elizabeth?

sounds good

lourdes is bloody gorgeous and i like the look of the alien lady plus i love me some elizabeth mitchell (though the first pic looks somewhat off somehow)

Liz Mitchell

I agree. It's a combination of strong artificial lighting - which can create harsh shadows like the one on her cheek cast by her hair - and a Photoshop overkill. Both make [you question whether she's actually one of the aliens] her look plastic. Anyway, she's gorgeous and she's twice as sexy with a bit of spunk, so I'm looking forward to this.
FOJO's picture

no kidding... "Photoshop overkill" lol!

"Photoshop overkill" -- sounds like a bitchin' band name!

But really, first thing I thought when the pic loaded was "YIKES -- who cooked her eyes?!?!"  Not to mention the rest of her face... sheesh, why can't photo editors just leave things well enough alone?  So gorgeous, doesn't need messing about...

Anyway, just had to get that outta my system, lol.

scribegrrrl's picture

yeah, i'm kind of excited

...but I guess that's obvious! Click here to see a lovely pic from EW

p.s. I think she said "overwhelming, like a peach," not "overwhelmingly like a peach," but I'll just have to look at the magazine again when I get home. You know, for the purposes of fact-checking — not for anything else. Ahem.

Thank you, my long-lost editor

Ack! This is what happens when I rely on second-hand sources for quotes. Thanks for the correction. It's even more delicious now.

sold!

I remember the original series like it was yesterday! Think this one will get me hooked as well. Beautiful women ... strong women ... dangerous women. What's not to like?

The Original V

It's been ages (a kid ago) that I've seen the original show V.  It scared the  heck out of me. I wonder if they are going to keep the original premise of V in the new one. So far it looks good.

I'm Watching...

For Elizabeth Mitchell, Morena Baccarin and Alan Tudyk.  What a cast!!

Elizabeth is great in everything she does. I noticed her even before "Gia" and would always stop and watch any TV show she was in.

Ever since I saw Morena in "Firefly", I thought she was one of the most beautiful women I'd ever seen.  And it didn't hurt that her character, Inara, had both male and female clients. Loved that!!

Alan Tudyk is outstanding.  "Firefly" aside (in which he stole my heart), his Alpha in "Dollhouse" was off the wall. The change from mild mannered geek to the Big Bad was a total surprise because he gave nothing away. What an actor!

Add other actors, like Joel Gretsch, Lourdes Benedicto and Morris Chestnut and I think it's going to be a good show.  Let's hope the writers live up to the cast.

 Peace, Joy and Love

Whew...

I had my PVR set the moment I saw Elizabeth Mitchell!!! :P I need my fix, with Lost not returning till "early 2010"...

This has either the potential to be really bad or really good. I hope for the latter :)

I'm excited for this show!

My friend told me who Elizabeth Mitchell was since she was a fan of hers - she told me I had to meet her at Comic Con this past year and I'm so glad I did! Elizabeth was charming and beautiful! I'm so looking forward to this show! A hot, kick ass blonde to fight the alien threat? She can save me any day!

I hope...

I'm hoping this turns out to be a good series.  I want it to be good.  But I have my doubts.  A nerd show on prmetime tv would be awesome.  I will certainly be watching it on Hulu tomorrow.  Fingers are crossed that it fills the nerdiness void

Elizabeth Mitchell is definitely sexy...from her days as Kerry Weavers gal on ER and then Lost...she just cant go wrong in my eyes!  Love her!

Elizabeth Mitchell attended Stephens College

That's a great, small women's college with an excellent Drama Department...should anyone be thinking of becoming an actress.
garanger's picture

Absolutely!

Loved the original V, but now I get the HUGE bonus of drooling over watching Ms. Mitchell, too!
Canuckgrrl's picture

Will there be guinea pigs?

Like in the original series, when the beautiful-but-evil Diana unhinges her snake-like jaws and swallows the little sucker whole?  Yum!  And Elizabeth Mitchell is double-yum.

Sick to my stomach

I wish the writers did not decide to use real life tragedies such as JFK's assasination and 9/11 as a cheap device to open the mini-series.  I actually got nauseous, and did not feel like watching after the first ten seconds.  I may revisit this remake after I get less PO'd about the three questions at the start of the episode.
hannahro's picture

Yeah, it really could have

Yeah, it really could have done without the American patriotic flag-waving/ exploitation of tragedies.  However, after the first few seconds it put that aside.  I am really excited about another sci fi series.
Paraphase's picture

Good Start

Just saw the first episode, and loved it. They dive right into the story. I love the pace of the show. Morena Baccarin is already hot but see looks gorgeous and sinister in V plus I love the new haircut.

I'm not usually into Sci-fi, but I'm a sucker for strong female characters.

 I rememeber being able to

I rememeber being able to stay up late friday nights as a kid to watch it. So I am curious to see the remake of this. And Elizabeth Mitchell is just a big bonus! :)
FOJO's picture

That first photo is scaring me...

Seriously, the more I stare at it the more it creeps me out... I need sleep... and I need to find proper, good photos of Elizabeth Mitchell to stare at... *shudders*
Rosebud's picture

Just watch her photo shoot

Just watch her photo shoot scene in Gia; very good medicine. =D
Suzzie's picture

Yes please!

Man! When/if this comes to the UK, I am sooo going to watch it! I love Lourdes, she is gorgous! And the woman on the far left in the second group picture looks pretty cute too! I love sci-fi stuff, so this is a definate for me!
thewritersparadox's picture

Morena

Elizabeth Mitchell is hot, but for me, you can't beat Morena Baccarin for total gorgeousness.  If I watch, it'll be for her (still sad about her haircut, though).

I'm looking forward to V

I'm looking forward to V because I am a fan of the original, though I can't help but feel like it won't be as good. One never knows right?. Great to see Morena Baccarin in it (love her in Firefly). Great gal. I still haven't seen Gia yet. I have heard about it from a friend. Me wants to see!
