TV Alert: Season 2 serves up another slice of "Pushing Daisies"

Pushing Daisies makes me happy — like eating ice cream and petting puppies and spotting rainbows on a sunny day happy. Well, actually, not like ice cream (lactose intolerance), but the other stuff, definitely. I think it makes me so happy because it's just so sweet. Not sweet in the cup of sugar, glass of Kool-Aid sense. But sweet in the charming, delightful, filled-with-wonder sense.

Season 2 starts tonight on ABC, and I can't wait watch the continued Technicolor adventures of the pie maker and his back-from-the-dead gal. Not sure what all the fuss is about? Well, do you have five minutes to spare?

Few shows on television elicit the same innocent — dare I say wholesome — joy as Pushing Daisies. Sure, it has murder and mystery, death and décolletage (God bless Olive Snook and her low-cut tops). But it's the unapologetic sense of whimsy and embrace of the fantastical that keeps me coming back. In short, it's like nothing else on television.

It helps that the show's winsome cast members each have the perfect ratio of eye candy to mind candy. British actress Anna Friel as a girl named Chuck and Broadway star Kristin Chenoweth as the lovelorn Olive are ostensibly rivals for pie maker Ned's (Lee Pace) affections. But they're both so darn likable it's hard to root for either one (though I'm a sucker for the underdog and Kristin's singing).

Heck, the only thing the show is missing is a gay character. But then I guess even the practically perfect need something to strive for, and the show earns bonus points for the copious employment of Kristin's considerable vocal talents.

So, are you hopelessly devoted, too? Or does your sweet tooth preclude this kind of pie?

It's so weird...

I've been watching Pushing Daisies, and enjoying it too.

BUT...it's just so weird....and I haven't figured out yet if I like it or if it really is too weird for me.

It may be weird...

But it fits nicely with Bryan Fuller's other two shows: Dead Like Me & Wonderfalls. I guess I like the weird. You know you like it too...

:)

I'm so excited for Pushing Daisies - it's definitely one of my 'guilty' pleasures, since my weekdays tend to be filled with homework and the required teen dramas (haha). Anxious to see what this season will bring ^_^

yes, yes, yes, YES!

Ive been in love with this show from day one! I started watching coz off the gorgeous Miss Chenoweth, but got hooked in the first episode. I love the names, the language, the colours, the weird dead people, the odd crimes and even the aunts. I love it all, it always makes me feel giddy inside after ive watched, and how could that ever be a bad thing. I myself am a personal advocate of all things weird, so the weirder this show gets the better. I CANNOT WAIT :D.

Ahh!

I read that first line as eating puppies and rainbows in addition to the ice cream, on a sunny day. Haha. I mean, I might be all in for eating rainbows...I'm sure those would make me happy too. But I'd rather just hold a puppy. Anyways......Yay for Pushing Daisies!! I've been waiting for this to come back since the writer's strike!

Love it

I love pushing daisies, its so sweet and quirky and romantic! I still think Wonderfalls was better, but its really nice to have something like this on TV, paradox that it is (it's visually so pretty and happy, but at the end of the day its about murders and an intense romance which is ultimately doomed, being alone and unable to connect with the people you really want to connect with.) Cant wait for the new series!!

I like

I like pushing Daisies. It's very interesting visually, and the stylized story telling is a treat. Too bad the season was cut short last year - I look forward to seeing how the series develops this year.

My friend says Pushing

My friend says Pushing Daisies is good. I myself have never watched it but will probably sample it at some point. It’s probably been mentioned here on After Ellen before but if anyone didn’t know, Anna Friel did a gay storyline a LONG time ago on Brookside.

I heart Kristin

I love the show for the narrator's voice, the beautiful sets and last but not least- the way they use the talent of Kristin Chenoweth.  Props for allowing her to sing and use it in such a clever way!  Check out the way they used the They Might Be Giants "bird house in your soul" song.

 Love it!

Can't wait to watch tonight!

I named my girl cat Chuck, completely forgeting about this show. I feel so unoriginal now! I might as well go get her a little boy kitteh and name him Ned.

Viva Daisies!

I am psyched for the return of Pushing Daisies.  It's a wonderful vehicle combining fantasy, whimsy and all that other stuff you mentioned. For some reason, I just find the narration so comforting, almost like I am being read a story like when I was little.  Maybe that's part of the fun of it.  It brings us back to our childhood!

The Aunts are just too funny, especially Swoozie Kurtz, and I love Kristin.  I wish somehow she could find happiness in the show somehow.  Then again, I guess that would ruin the tension between the girl he could have versus the girl he could kill with one touch. Alas, Love can be tough!

Can't wait to go back to The Pie Hole :D

I heard about this show here in Afterellen. I've been hooked ever since. I love its modern-fairy-tale feel, from the narration to the visuals. And I love the theme song! That soaring orchestral music that pretty much sums up the sweet longing between Ned and Chuck. And everyone else is just as purdy-perfect as, um, pie (lame...).  Yaaaay! I can't wait to watch it! :D :D :D

I miss Wonderfalls *sigh*! :(

God I love this show

There is just something about this show that just can't keep me away from it. I thinks its mostly Kristin Chenoweth (Olive) and the random times that she sings (I have a weakness for girls that can sing). But its not entirely Cheno that keeps me coming back. The show is simply amazing.

Fairytale Romance

I love this show! I think one of the best aspects is how gosh darn likable Ned is. I know it's sort of standard to have the audience like the main character, but Pushing Daisies is one of the only shows where I'm actually rooting for the main couple rather than clinging to lesbian subtext... and if I wanted to do that, there's even Chuck/Olive!

Mmmmm...

Man, I love Pushing Daisies. As if Kristin Chenoweth wasn't enough, Anna Friel had to go and be all gorgeous too. Anyone else tempted to make a Kappa Kappa Eat My Pie joke?

I love you for saying that, I really do!

Olive's character was

Olive's character was originally supposed to be a lesbian, but they thought the love triangle...angle would be better.

I say there could have still been a love triangle..just with a twist ;-)
