"Top Chef" reunion mini-cap: Baldies, bromances and tequila, oh my

Oh, Top Chef. How you continue to break my heart this season. First, we have Caseygate and the terrible, horrible sous vide steak and sad, sorry soufflé. And now we have Fan-Favoritegate. But I'm getting ahead of myself.

The Watch What Happens reunion special for Top Chef: New York brought all 17 cheftestants back together. And, once again, it was a reminder that if you got PYKAGed in the first half of the season, I totally won't know your name. Well, except for the temporarily reunited Team Rainbow. OK, so reunited might be too strong a term. But at least they all got seated in the same couch area.

The show had much discussion of the European bromance. And of the bald thing. And, of course, of the HosLeah hookup. Also, yet another cunning couch positioning coup for the folks at Bravo. Hosea and Leah weren't on the same couch, but were close enough to gaze at each other awkwardly. Yawn. I think my thoughts on that subject can best be summed up by Fabio's face.

Our little chefbian Jamie got her very own very special scowly gay-lady segment. The clips pegged her as the season's whiner. Granted, she did grumble about her lack of wins. But it wasn't just talk and no action. Jamie's food was consistently good until her over-salty celery sauce. Plus, just because you cross your arms a lot doesn't make you a cranky lesbian.

Jamie's couch time did, however, include a funny reference to the AfterEllen.com interview she did on This Just Out with Liz Feldman. When asked if she would ever consider hooking up with Stefan, Jamie said she had been asked in another interview how much tequila it would take. Her answer: Enough to kill her.

And speaking of serious liver damage, I truly wish Bravo would have shown the entire great Jamie/Leah drunken Judges' Table episode. That looked like a hoot. Hey, Colicchio, I'm not as think as you drunk I am.

In the end, just like the season, the reunion show proved highly unsatisfactory as Hootie Nation suffered one last upset. My beloved tortoise Carla lost out on the Fan Favorite vote to the Italian stallion Fabio. Don't get me wrong — I liked Fabio. But Carla was my heart.

Well, at least we got one last mmm, Padma, mmm. And in kicky knee-high boots no less.

So, thoughts on the reunion? Final thoughts on the season? Team Hootie-Hoo forever.

Nice M*A*S*H Reference

I didn't watch the full season of Top Chef this time around. I did stick around for the recaps though. I have to say I definitely enjoyed the M*A*S*H/drunk Hotlips reference. That was one of my favorite episodes. Not too bad for a 22-year-old.

I couldn't stop laughing

Carla should have gotten fan favorite!  Honestly, how could you not love her?

Overall I thought the reunion was hilarious!  The second half of it kept me in stiches.  I personally enjoyed Stefan professing his love for almost every female on the show, and Jamie and Leah in a drunken stupor at judges table.  I love the reunion because we get to see this kind of wacky stuff, but I would love it if they started including some of it in the show.

mmm....padma

Gotta love her!!!

I voted for Fabio and Carla for fan fav too....so was happy Fabio won, he was a charmer, and all those housewives loved him. Tho I wished Carla could have taken it to DC :)

The stew room was too funny esp those drunken gals...I was rolling on the floor trying not to wake the baby I babysit LOL!!

Cant wait for the next season, hopefully Ill get to be a contestant if its still on in a few years!!

DeLido Dildo

The biggest surprise of the reunion had to be Chef Dildo. He really is a dildo! That guy has ZERO personality. I had no idea about the comments he'd made to People about Co-lick-eeeooo. Not sure I buy his excuse that he was misquoted.

The drunk footage was funny and I loved seeing all the creative ways they came up with to kill time in the stew room. A Glad volleyball net is pretty genius.

I was very surprised Carla didn't win fan favorite. Even more shocking was that the contestants actually solicited votes online. That kind of turned me off.

Poor Carla

But she did get a car. She cant have it all. I thought this season they were close to one another. They all seemed like they could keep in touch and all be friends. Even the people that got kicked off early.

Snarker - The linster said you have a closet of Padma pics please email them too me. I have a feeling you have a better collection then I do.

One last time til next season

MMMMMMMMMM PADMA MMMMMMMM MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!

Those BOOTS!!!

Love Jamie! Hate Jeff!

Surprised about the fan fave, but i think it was pretty clear that even the judges loved carla. im still not sure what they ever saw in jeff, though - he should have been sent home wayyy early on. his cooking was mediocre, and he added nothing personality-wise. he was such a wet blanket. oh, but it was great to see eugene again; i really liked the way he cooked. and while fabio is a little annoying, he's clearly a good guy. stefan, despite his cockiness, seems to be, too. he was really sweet when carla was freaking out in the finale, and as for the jamie crush, it was sort of hilarious (though obv misguided).

oh, jamie's restaurant absinthe is right down the street from me, and went for the first time last night. delicious. the pork confit was to die for, and the chocolate tart was heavenly. great cocktails, too.

as for the pics above: padma in boots = me in heaven.

Loved the Reunion

Fabio was funny, but Carla should have won. She cooked with love! Love trumps all.

I love it when they show behind-the-scene footage of the stew room. It's the best part of the reunion because we get to see their creative side as the boredom and hours of waiting weigh them down. They were pretty creative with the glad bags. How did they make that bed? I want one!

Ha! Jamie and Leah!

And go Team Rainbow!

Padma in boots.

I did not get to see the reunion show yet but you bet your boots I am going to see when it repeats on Bravo!

Yum.

Also I read in TV Guide that Stefan often took smoke breaks with Padma in-between taping.  Almost makes me want to take up the ciggies to have that kind of alone time with her.

:P
