Avast, cuteness! Tina Fey swashbuckles onto Sesame Street

Today's blog post is brought to you by the letter C. As in, C is for “cuteness.” C is for “Can you handle this much cuteness?” C is for “Cut it out, you’re making my face hurt from smiling at all this cuteness!” Seriously, are you ready? ’Cause this is ridiculously cute.

On Monday, Tina Fey guest starred with Elmo and friends in the premier episode of the 38th season of Sesame Street. The 30 Rock star is one of a slew of big names to make their way to where the air is sweet this year, including Jon Stewart, Anderson Cooper, Rachel Ray, James Blunt and (as already mentioned in B.L.W.E.) the Great Panted One herself, Ellen DeGeneres. But now that I've seen Tina’s appearance, I can say they’d better bring their A games. OK, fine, only if A is the letter of the day. But you get my point.

Tina’s sketch followed the show’s season-long theme of literacy. To wit, she burst in with her motley crew of bookaneers. They were the Pirates of the Care to Be Readin’. And her battle cry was, “Library cards, ho!” The cuteness was truly at mad genius levels. Catch a clip here. If that doesn’t warm the cockles of your heart, then you’re just a hopeless scalawag.

In an interview with TV Guide, Tina said she immediately agreed to appear on the venerable children's series. Her two-year-old daughter Alice is apparently a big Elmo fan. (Don’t you just love that she named her daughter Alice and not something like Moonlight Tiger Agent Wind?)

So, was she nervous about dueting with the red, hairy rock god of the preschool set?

“I was only nervous because Elmo sings really high and so I had to sing up in Elmo’s key, so I sounded really screechy. [Laughs] But I think I got it.”

There should be a rule that Tina guest stars on every show. Every single one. With her bi-curious shoes and smart-girl glasses, she makes each appearance an instant comedy classic. If you can handle one last jolt of cuteness, check her out on The Ellen DeGeneres Show earlier this year. I have to go lie down now. This is just too much cuteness for one day.

Oh SNAP.

It's Tina Fey Tuesday. :-) Isn't she loverly?

Did Tina ever respond anywhere to her number 7 placing on the hot 100?

And is that Anne Curry on the right side of that one picture?

Did she hang out with Grover

Did she hang out with Grover at all? I mean, Elmo's cute and all, and I know her daughter enjoys him, but given Fey's comedy style, I think Grover is the better fit.

You don't see much of Grover these days, though, in the toys or anything. Which is a shame, cause the Grover waiter skits were my favorites when I was young.

Grover!

I loved Grover.  My favorite were the Super Grover! skits although I loved the waiter skits too.  The first book I ever read starred Grover.  I was lucky enough to find a Grover puppet a couple of years ago.

Whenever Elmo was introduced I was pissed, even though I was a kid.  Grover's appearances had dwindled.  It was like they could not have two fuzzy, similarly shaped muppets, so they took away the cool blue one in order to have a whiny red one.  18 years later and my opinion still has not changed.  Still love Tina Fey.

If ever the day came that

If ever the day came that Tina Fey approached my desk and cried, "Library cards, ho!"  by god, this ho would give her every last one I had.

C is for Cutie, that's good enough for me.

I wish I was older...

If I was older I'd be on a more even level w/ Tina Fey.

That said and how much I like 30 Rock, in the first picture above her mouth is a bit scarry.

Tina Fey!

Oh I need to go lie down too. And yes, that's Anne to her right in that photo. Now off to the couch I go, way too much cuteness. So much so that I'm tempted to break out in an poem to Tina's cuteness *smiles*

Grover rules

I, too, lament the de-Groverification of Sesame Street. Elmo is just too, uh, Elmo for my taste. Tina Fey seems to agree, as she told TV Guide:

“It’s weird because I grew up pre-Elmo. I like Ernie and Bert — they’re truly a comedy team — and also Grover was a big deal.”

And for a sneak peek of Ellen and Elmo, check out her pre-iPod cameo with the little red dude back in the 90s. Put down the Duckie!

More Grover ...

When I was really little, my favorite book was "The Monster at the End of This Book," which was about Grover's anxiety over of the monster. I was bonkers for Grover. I loved for my grandma to read it to me because she had a gravelly, Grover-like voice, which I thought was the coolest.

The Sesame Street clip was too cute -- bookaneers! Tina Fey is the best. (And how adorable is her daughter in her little coat and hat?)

Monster!

I remember that! I didn't actually own that book, but it was at the Parenting Center my mom took me to sometimes. It made me nervous the first time I read it. I thought something was gonna eat Grover.

Ha!

I used to love doing the "Grover voice" too (much like your grandmother). How sweet that you have such fond memories of her reading to you.

As for Tina Fey...she is just a delight.

More Grover

I too must jump on the Grover bandwagon. Elmo is cute and that's about all there is to it, but Grover - cute and hilarious - what a combination (I'm a sucker for humor).

Whoa.

First off, I must admit - I love me some Grover.  But where's the love for Oscar the Grouch?  Or Count Von Count?  They were always my favourites.
