The new "Dollhouse" trailer surfaces

Welcome to the Dollhouse. Fox unveiled its new Joss Whedon-helmed, Eliza Dushku-starring series during last week’s network upfront presentations. In addition to releasing cast photos, the ambitious sci-fi series’ trailer was unfurled. The show has been given a mid-season slot and will debut in January.

Miranda Penn Turin/FOX

The trailer looks kind of – oh, what’s that word – awesome. It lays out the premise (the Dollhouse employs a secret group of “actives” who have their personalities and memories erased to be imprinted with new ones for assignments) while giving us a sense of the show’s tone, pacing and humor. But enough talk, give it a look yourself.

Cool, right? Eliza gets a chance to flex all of her acting muscles in this role. Often typecast as the tough girl, as Echo she will get to run the gamut of emotions. And already I think I love the deliciously calculated Adelle DeWitt (played by British actress Olivia Williams). As the head of the Dollhouse, she is exactly as described: “beautiful, sophisticated, cold as an alp.”

The trailer also gives us our first glimpse of all of the series regulars together and interacting. The actives, in their non-mission states, have a childlike quality. The cast, whose role descriptions were released earlier, looks young and fit and spry. Other than Olivia, it’s hard to tell who the standouts will be yet.

Kurt Iswarienko/FOX

We haven’t caught sight of Amy Acker as Dr. Claire Saunders, the woman who looks after the active's well-being. And I would have liked to see more about the show’s overarching theme of self-realization. Joss has said that the show will revolve around Echo’s burgeoning self-awareness.

Greg Gayne/FOX

The series’ mid-season start shouldn’t be read as a vote of no-confidence from Fox. The network had what it called a “high-class problem” with its fall schedule as it launched not one but two high-profile shows from high-profile creators as both Whedon and Lost’s J.J. Abrams are debuting new hour-long sci-fi dramas. Abrams’ Fringe got put on the fall schedule Tuesday nights behind House.Dollhouse debuts in January on Monday nights after 24. Fox execs said they went with Fringe for the fall and Dollhouse for mid-season because the former had been in development longer and completed more episodes.

So, what did you think? Did the trailer impress you? Do you want to play in Eliza’s Dollhouse?

I can't wait, it looks awesome!!

Wootsauce...

SO looking forward to this. With Joss and Eliza, it's just gotta be full of good.

Lets hope Fox doesn't screw it up or I fear Joss will never come back to TV again :/

The trailer is giving me all kinds of hope that this will be a hit for both the above. They both deserve it.

Fan-freaking-tastic!!!

This show looks awsome! When I first read about this show I thought  "mehh, that looks boring. How many story lines can they really pull off? How will they make it interesting for more than one season?" But from the look of this trailer its gonna be awsome! Cant wait!!

Bi-dolls

Notice the bisexual hinting in the trailer "He or she...will fall madly in love with you" The premise of this show will have the potential to play with both female and male fluid sexuality like no other show.

And its Joss Whedon so you know it will go there eventually.

Yessssssssssssssssss!

Eliza back on the TV what more could Faith/Joss fan want?

I'm so excited I could pee my pants, but.. I won't coz that's just not cool.

Matrix+Total Recall+Sixth Day

After 9 years after the Matrix was released, the movie still has an influence. Look at the chair, it's clearly taken right from the Matrix. I see a bit of Matrix, Totall Recall, and some of The Sixth Day in the gimmick for this show. Wiping out memories, creating new personas is from Sixth Day/Total Recall. And Eliza Dushku seems to be playing the same character as usual. The first shot of her in that tub seems ripped from the Matrix and how Neo is in the liquid tank thing. I was expecting the lady to say "welcome to the desert of the real, Eliza Dushku."

If You Think About It

Wheadon has a tendancy to buy or rent props from movies and shows that have already been long gone. Like in Firefly, all the Alliance troops look like Starship Trooper soldiers and thats because he rented the Starship Trooper gear from the movie. The man is a genius when it comes to saving money on a project. And if he's using props from the Matrix,Sixth Day, and Total Recall, I say he has some good taste.
clockers2's picture

no

I'm saying that this show has clearly been influenced by those movies, and you can just tell by the look of the trailer.

Okay first things first. If

Okay first things first. If they are matching Fringe to House, than that means they're moving BONES again!  Unbelievable. I don't understand how Fox expects these show to do well. Bones does pretty well, but it was actually a good match for House. Two genius eccentrics. Fringe also looks very interesting; and very SciFi, it would possibly make a great match with Dollhouse. Though understandably they want to build an audience before doing something like that. They could pair one of them with Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles.

Obviously, behind their reality shows like American Idol, and 5 Grader, House and 24 or probably their two top grabbers. But I hate when they keep moving good shows, and I hate when they pair things that don't go well.

Three words...

Oh My GOD!!!!!

This looks so cool and I so can't wait for next year now!!! Roll on January! I love Eliza but I'm slightly worried about the woman playing Sierra cause I saw her in Neighbours and she didn't realy impress me. I do hope that Joss does include some Lesbian/Bisexual characters/storyline

Psychopractor's picture

Well well well...

Looks like a show I will definatly be setting my DVR to. This seems like a pretty interesting plotline. Once fall rolls around hopefully we can get back on our feet after the writer's strike. I've got something to look forward to. Hey, It'll be like a birthday present since my birthday is in January. =D

If I were like that guy from the cooking show...

I might say I'm having a couch-potato-inary boner b-word.

As it is, I'll just say I'm very much looking forward to this show.

That trailer looks simply awesome....I knew I'd like it because of Joss and Eliza, but now I am thinking I might even love it...

Can't wait.

Oh My God...

As much as I love Joss Whedon (Firefly!!!!) I must admit that Dollhouse might be a ripoff of the 2001 comic series Fate Of The Blade that was put out by DreamWave comics. it's slightly changed from people being organically made to people "volunteering" to have their memories erased, but from first glance it's basically the same. But Wheadon is a HUGE comic book guy and has made amazing contributions to the industry (Astonishing XMEN!!!!!!).

Either way, I'm definately going to watch the series simply out of loyalty, and b/c I'll watch anything with Eliza in it (i.e. Bring it On). But I hope my gut feelings are wrong for a change.

Wow, whoa, and yowza. I'm almost terrified at how excited I am about getting Whedon and Dushku together again, every week, right on the teevee in the comfort of my crypt. And that trailer is fantabulous! Bring on the mid season!

I myself will watch anything Joss Whedon comes up with, I'm an old fan of BtVS. He's just a brilliant man.

This concept looks extremely interesting and I can't wait to see the show!

I cant wait for this show!

I cant wait for this show! I'm sad I have to wait til january. I would watch a show just for Joss Whedon, Amy Acker or Eliza Dushku...but all 3 together! I just wish it was on a channel other than FOX...
tarrabbit's picture

it's amazing...

... to think this entire show came out of a simple lunch one day, not so long ago, between Eliza and Joss, where he excused himself, goes to the bathroom, and within that short span of time, comes back with this idea - now already in production and on the schedule.

the man just rocks all kinds of goodness - i'll work for him in a minute, any day.

wow Eliza looks so HOT!! and I the show seems really good!!

Im also..

worried about Katya from Neighbours. She was ATROCIOUS in it. Considering the usual low standard of acting in the soap its actually quite an acheivment to be even worse.

Ah. Im sure Joss knows what he's doing.

mibtc86's picture

this looks really good

what this reminded me of tho is the movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.... although i've never seen the movie i do no that the 2 main? (i want to say) characters get some? of their minds erased.

this looks like an interesting show.... doesn't Fox like to cancel a lot of things tho? hopefully not cuz this looks like it could be good.

I'm so excited!!

I am so excited for this show. I love Joss, I love Eliza, I love quality television. I can't wait. Between this and the L word in January my homework time is going to be severely cut back.

Ready to play.

I didn't think I'd ever be so happy to have an Eliza show never make it to air.  But, goodbye Nurses and HELLO, DOLLHOUSE.

Yippee!  I may have to start watching television again.

Oh Yeah!!!!!!!!!!

I never played with dollhouses when I was a kid, but I surely do now. Especially if Eliza is there playing too. She is a great actress and incredibly HOTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!. The show loohs awesome too. I love the premise of the show. How cool to be someone different eveyday. Have cool and different experiences. Joss is an awesome creator. Of course Buff the Vampire Slayer. That was the best show.

So I am looking forward to Dollhouse. Wish it was the comng in the fall though. Something to look forward too.

Yes!

Okay, massively excited! It sucks that I have to wait until January to see it, but I'm really glad they're airing it on a Monday night because that means that it won't compete with the only other show I watch (Supernatural).
