The mother-daughter dynamic (a.k.a. the beauty of ridiculously good genes)

So I was cruising the photos of the beautiful and bizarre at Cannes again (FYI, Sharon Stone: immortal glamour goddess from the front, still above average yet mortal 49-year-old from the back), when I stumbled across this vision of perfection: Catherine Deneuve and her daughter Chiara Mastroianni.

Yowza. With a little research (thank you, Google), I learned that Chiara is the daughter of Deneuve and Marcello Mastroianni and an actress in her own right. OK, fine, her credits include roles in movies like Hillbilly Chainsaw Massacre and characters described as “S&M Girl #1,” but we can’t all be Catherine Deneuve. Still, she was at Cannes with her mother promoting their parts in the animated feature Persepolis, so good for her.

As my thoughts tend to wander (look, something shiny, wait … ), I started to think about other beautiful mother-daughter acts. Particularly those pairs where the daughter followed mama’s footsteps into acting. And, wouldn’t you know, genes matter. A look at five of the most beautiful examples of Take Your Daughter To Work Day:


Janet Leigh and Jamie Lee Curtis


Goldie Hawn and Kate Hudson

    I adore Blythe and loathe Gwyneth. It's disconcerting that they're so similar, yet so different.

    Oh...and you're right. She's still gorgeous!

    BLITHE DANNER IS RIDICULOUSLY HOT, SEXY, CLASSY AND BEAUTIFUL!!!  I admire her soooo very much.  Herself and Susan Sarandon are in a class all by themselves!!! (We could put Helen Mirren in that class as well but I'm still a lil undecided ont that)

    Oh and Jamie's mom, Janet, is/was a true GEM.  I watched THS about her for the Mother's Day special that E! did - she ws truly a wonderful and delightful person and so very unworldly.

    I didn't know that she was Paltrow's mom - thx for the info!

    The fact that the Bonet-Kravitz offspring is ninefrickinteen makes me feel very old for some reason, not unlike when the Olsen Twins grew boobs. Kids grow up so fast nowadays. And they need to stay out of my garden! Where's my ointment? And why is bread so damn expensive nowadays? Boy, I tells ya- in my time, you could get a loaf for a nickelllzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...

    What? Where am I?

    Oh, and I love Jamie Lee Curtis. That is all.

    Just for information, Chiara is in Cannes because she plays in the movie "Les Chansons d'Amours" in competition for the "Golden Palm" ;) She was also nominated at The Césars (french version of the Oscars) in 1994. And she's a singer, she made an album 3 years ago.

    Every time I see Catherine Deneuve I feel like melting inside! She is so gorgeous! Totally my type! 
    Of course I think some people are really lucky to be born within a family of good genes! I want to think that my family is just VERY SMART AND FUNNY PEOPLE... nuf said!
    LOL.   And Lisa Bonet, I haven't seen a recent picture of her like that.  They still show here in Germany the Cosby Show, right before she goes to Africa and brings Olivia with her as a bonus to the show.

    Good Lord, you learn something everyday - Mariska Hargitay is Jayne Mansfield Jr, well I never!

    You are a little unfair for Chiara Mastroianni. The SM girl #1-thingy was 12 years ago. In fact, she's done a lot of "films d'auteurs" in France (What you call small indie films).

    It was not a bad choice (if it was a choice) because she is not compared to her mother : They play in different fields.

    As some others pointed out, Chiara Mastroanni has done other movies than the ones you listed. She's famous in France (of course because of her parents, but she's also making herself a "name" of her own) and she's making quite many movies. Mostly indie movies (french and italian), but she has a real carreer! ;)

    I have seen Zoe Kravitz around the NY party scene, she is absolutely B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L in person...the only bad thing is that she smokes.

     

    What about Alice Walker and her daughter?

    you had me cracking up, resulting in concerned looks from my dogs.

    I have to admit Zoe looks hot, but I have a soft spot in me heart (ok and other places) for her parents.

    Gosh...that makes me feel kinda old too.

    WTF??? Jane Mansfield is Mariska Hargitay's mother? I'm not a fan of Hargitay but I pride myself on my knowledge of useless information.

    That said, I also had a huge crush on Lisa Bonet growing up and I just realized she could be my mother.

    Strange, this thing called time.

    Oh and what about Diana Ross and her daughter Tracee Ellis Ross.

    Tracee has got one the best as...uh smiles on TV

    wow these women look so much alike. You really picked the ones that look like they could be twins in different times. I mean, Kate Hudson IS a young Goldie Hawn and Isabellla Rosselini IS a young Ingrid Bergman. Especially that last one always catches me off guard, but i guess i should not be talking, i in fact look so much like my mom that i have strangers coming up to me and telling me that they know my mother. Anywayz, nice post, spending time on worshipping Catherine Deneuve is always time good spend :D

    Woah.  Chiara definitely got all the finest attributes of her beautiful beautiful parents.  As did Isabella.  Those Italian boys get the job done. 

    I'm pretty proud of my Italian heritage right now.
