The ladies of "The L Word" come out one last time

Hey, is something happening this Sunday night? I feel like I keep forgetting an important event. No? Well then maybe that would be the perfect night to disassemble my television and see if I can put it back together again. You know, for kicks since nothing else is happening — oh, wait, that's right. The one and only hourlong dramatic series about lesbians is ending after six years. Sheesh. How could I forget? You'd think I bumped my head while diving into the deep end of a pool or something.

Yes, The L Word's swan song is nearly upon us. And like any good goodbye, there was a goodbye party. Earlier this week most of the cast — with a few notable exceptions — came out to commemorate six seasons of talking, laughing, loving, breathing, fighting and that rude word that rhymes with sucking.

Present and accounted for were series regulars Mia Kirshner, Kate Moennig, Laurel Holloman, Rose Rollins, Daniela Sea, Marlee Matlin and — of course — series creator Ilene Chaiken. Missing in action were Jennifer Beals, Leisha Hailey, Rachel Shelley and Pam Grier. Hmm, everyone who thinks Ilene dispatched them to that women's prison to do some scouting for the spinoff, raise your hand.

Also on hand were an assortment of very special guest stars past and present including Papi (Janina Gavankar), Niki (Kate French), Jamie (Mei Melancon) and The Reamer (the one, the only Jane Lynch.

The rest of the cast looked rather touchy feely, particularly Marlee who seems to have incorporated her Dancing with the Stars cheek-to-cheek lessons into her everyday life.

A thankfully dry and dressed appropriately for mourning Mia looked a tad bemused by the whole event. Perhaps she is still trying to figure out who killed Jenny. (Hint: Her name rhymes with bacon. As in, “Can you believe the ego of that crazy slab of bacon?”)

Looking lovely in celebratory shades of fuchsia and red were Rose and Laurel. Rose looks like she just asked Laurel if she thinks Ilene saw her interview on This Just Out with Liz Feldman. If so, Rose should avoid the pool area at all costs.

Kate, meanwhile, seemed to be in the last gasps of acting very Shane today as she posed with an assortment of lovely lasses — oh, and Ilene.

Though, am I the only one who thinks the assembled cast looks a bit like they’re standing in a police lineup?

If I could throw one..it would be a party to celebrate the end of this destructive series that lost its way back in season 1 with the break up of B and T. Without an anchor to the series it just drifted all over and did more harm than good.

further more..you KNOW that something has gone askew when the STARS of your show have no defense about the plot lines (this entire season which had everyone at a loss for words in interviews for why things were unfolding this way as well as almost contempt from some of its stars)

but god, kate french looks good. where was rachel shelley, though?!? i feel cheated.

also, sort of wish jamie'd been introduced earlier in the series - she's freaking hot.

hilarious post, by the way. it's amazing that all these stars can assemble in one place without ilene's head taking up all the room. props to mia kirshner for putting up with 6 years of absolute bullshit.

Kate French is gorgeous. And Rachel Shelley. Yes, the show needed more Jamie.

Ilene Chaiken has the biggest head & I met her in NYC at the Women's Event 11. She was an absolute bitch toward me in the bathroom. That lady ruined this show, has an ego to boost for no reason, and needs to hang up her lack of writing skills.

Daniela Sea was so kind and an absolute doll.

Pics of wrap parties are always kinda poignant, but I hadn't realised that all trace of the L-Word is being expunged; it's as if some form of damnatio memoriae is being enacted. As in

"...After 6 seasons of shooting this hugely popular t.v. series, the production of The L Word has been stopped and all contents of this over 30,000 square foot facility will be sold with no minimum price..."

How crazy. I watched the linens section and they had a cubby of bright pink pillows with neon squares (there are houses on one side) that I just bought at IKEA. On sale. $5 each. See? You don't have to go to Canada! ...and I never even saw them on the show.

Probably not in the way that Madame Chaiken would appreciate. I'm ready for it to be over. That said, I thought the pictures from the farewell were interesting.

Rose Rollins looks great in those pictures. I'll definitely miss seeing her on my television on Sunday nights. Maybe there's a place for her on Breaking Bad...

Have to agree about Mei. She's gorgeous. And Kate French reminds me of Raquel Welch. I hate how her character went under a lobotomy in between seasons. Smooth, Ilene. Real smooth.

Also, KM's nipples are really pretty and all, but would it kill the girl to wear a bra once in awhile? She's going to regret it once she hits 60 or so, and those puppies are down to her knees.

yeah, i agree tha that Mia is the most gorgeous woman on the planet. Disagree about Kate French's character undergoing a lobotomy (she was always stupid).

But Kate Moennig's boobs? She doesn't need a bra. Her boobs are too tiny (but, her nips are still amazing!) She'll be fine in old age.

Daylight savings time

B/c daylight savings time occurs in the US this Saturday night/Sunday morning, you'll only be FOUR hours ahead of Eastern time (NY time). So just add four hours to whatever time it's starting :)

Thanks for the pics. I didn't like this show very much so I'm glad it's ending, but I will miss all the snarking and fun that surrounded it, including AE's reviews and blog posts, the discussion at TWoP and KC & Elka's podcasts.

This made me laugh: Hint: Her name rhymes with bacon. As in, “Can you believe the ego of that crazy slab of bacon?” It also made me realize I never really knew how to pronounce her name. Heh.

I think Kate French is super hot. I'm still super pissed they retconned her character to give us the excrutiating Shenny.

Not to be rude, but there are some typos -- in the second paragraph, "most" is randomly capitalized and the word "seasons" needs its ending S.

Yeah, you've pretty much perfectly summed up my own feelings.

I will miss the recaps though, oddly enough. I rarely found myself caring what was actually happening on the show, but the commentary in the recaps? Priceless.

I am so incredibly sad over the loss of this show. Yes this season has been horrible but it was while watching this show, in particular the darkout episode and the love scene with Molly and Shane, that I realized I am NOT a straight woman. After a good cry and a good drink I began to finally address myself and start to work things out within. I just worry that without a show like this on the air so many people will miss out on their own epiphany.

I will miss the characters!!

I will miss the characters!! Even Jenny. Prior to this season, at least, you could give her credit for being hilarious and she was never malicious. I loved the friendship moments, especially in the first season.

okay i was surprised to see these 3 lovely ladies missing? They have been on the show the entire series, except for Helena who came in on season 2...but still! They are such a big part of the show, and it's so sad that they weren't even at the goodbye party. oh well...maybe that had something more important going on? ha who knows

to be honest as much as i hated the last 3 seasons i can't help but feel sad about this...the show had been a BIG part of my life. And i'll terribly miss Alice =(

I love the show. It's had some not so great moments, but what show doesnt. but it was great and entertaining and I will miss it a lot.

And it sucks Jennifer, Leisha, and Rachel werent there. Jen and Leisha at least were 2 major people

I find it ironic that these ladies all showed up to a party to celebrate the ending of the show when NO ONE showed up for the Premiere Party this year. As someone who waited on line for hours in WEHO hoping for the same party (or better) as years passed and a chance to say 'goodbye' to these ladies for the last time... I felt severly let down when no one showed. It would've been nice since it was the last season if everyone showed up at the premiere in January to thank their fans for 6 years of support. I guess that should've been my first red flag that we were in for a disappointing season.

As far as I'm concerned, without Jennifer Beals it couldn't have been much of a 'party'.

Oh and Ilene... stopped posing in photos with the cast as if you're a star... after Sunday night's impending disaster... no one will care to see you again!

I'd guess the reason for Rachel Shelley's absence is that she's in the UK right now and maybe doesn't want to make the long flight over just for one party event. It's quite a thing to do, to go all that way for not very much (unlike going to film a series or a range of final auditions or something).
