Jodie's got a gunAfter watching the trailer for the new Jodie Foster film The Brave One, I think the only appropriate response is, “Wow, that was intense.” Really, really intense.
The psychological thriller follows Jodie’s character, radio talk show host Erica Bain, as she recovers from a brutal attack that leaves her fiancé (Lost’s Naveen Andrews) dead and her life in turmoil. As she struggles to find peace and justice, she cuts a swath of gun-toting vigilante justice through the streets of New York. That’s all fine and good, but I’d like to take a moment to thank whatever brilliant costumer designer decided to put Jodie in a series of sleeveless shirts. Say hello to toned gun-wielding arms. Hello.
Jodie has perfected the strong-woman-in-jeopardy genre and made it her own. She banishes all whiffs of damselism by making whatever peril lies ahead match up against her instinctual intelligence. And with one flash of her crystalline cerulean eyes, you just know peril is toast.
The Brave One, while essentially a revenge drama, looks promising not only because of Jodie’s presence, but also the strong cast (Terrence Howard, Mary Steenburgen, Jane Adams and newcomer Zoe Kravitz), talented director Neil Jordan (The Crying Game, Breakfast on Pluto) and the complex questions its plot poses.
In the scant 2 minutes and 28 seconds of the trailer, we see Jodie go through a lifetime of emotions: love, fear, pain, loss, confusion and rage. When Jodie’s voice breaks, I catch my breath (the sound of strength cracking gets me every time). And when she demands with an iron whisper, “I want my dog back,” you know it’s time for some serious ass-kicking. Bring on the popcorn.

Helloooooo Ms. Foster!
Woah
Looking Forward To It!
I'd like to see this film too!
We can always count on Jodie Foster to deliver. ;-)
As much as I would love to look into those soul-penetrating eyes...I would never want to be on the other side of that gun!
BTW, Mic, I'd like to hear the sound of your "lecherous giggle."
lecherous giggle
;-)
Ah, yes...the new avatar of Cate seems to draw some extra attention. ;-)
(Mercy suggested changing my avatar, so...I did.)
Hmmm...I have blonde hair and green eyes.
That's not me, but...it could be, if...
I was hot!
;-)
A recording of lecherous giggling?
Tempting...
Hmmm....
sigh
...
(the sound of strength cracking gets me every time)
Awesome line. :D
Crikey!
Wow, this looks awesome! There's one bit where she looks a little bit Agent Starling in the way she says something, which is rather exciting! She looks excellent as well. I think this film might rock...
Shame about the title, though, I reckon... But in a world of naff and cliched film titles there's not a lot left to pick from really.
But forget that - it's time for some kick ass Jodie action - alright! xxx
Wow! I'm not into arms
lesbian without borders
Sweet.
That's all, just one word. I'm so glad Jodie Foster came out of hiding and started making all these bad-ass movies.

You Know...
To be honest, I'm not going to bother seeing this. Don't get me wrong, I adore Jodie Foster, I always have.
Yet The Brave One seems strikingly familiar. Could that be because she's done this story line before? Anyone ever see 'The Accused'. Same f'kin thing, only I believe the endings will be different. If memory serves, in The Accused, Jodie never took a gun to anyone, and I don't even think she got judicial revenge.
However - good on her, and I hope those that see it enjoy it. Please don't be mad at me. I'm sore today.
Lookin' Good
October???
I'm looking forward to this one
Jodie + Guns + cut-up arms =
Jodie + Guns + cut-up arms = must see!
I luff huh.
Just when you think you know
Just when you think you know what to expect from Jodie, she zigs completely in another direction. I am loving it that Jodie has reinvented herself as this bad-ass reluctant hero.
The Accused was as much about Kelly McGillis and her character as it was about Foster's finding justice within an uncaring system. While rape and the devastation of its aftermath may be a common denominator, this story walks squarely into Charles Bronson territory. Sarah Tobias was ragged, raw and emotionally frail, but she wasn't a vigilante. She never would have turned a gun on her attackers. It took everything she had just to face them in a courtroom. Kathryn Murphy, however, might have been a different story.
Kicking butt and taking names suits Foster well, so if she wants to do the same thing over and over and over again, it is okey-dokey by me. Personally, I'd love to see her revisit some of her old characters anyway. I liked the "cleaner" character she played in Inside Man and I'd like to see more of it.
Taxi Driver meets Deathwish
I'm SO going to
!!!
wow...hearing the premise of this i wasn't sure how well it would turn out, but this looks damn interesting. i don't think this is gonna be "the accused" all over again. looks like a trip into the mind of someone affected by violence. i have been the victim of violence, and struggled with the very unexpected violent reactions that i had afterwards. wanting to hurt the perpetrators, fantasizing about it, the whole nine. no one ever told me about that part. i am VERY interested in seeing how the delve into this, since this character obviously goes a few steps further.
can't wait til this comes out.
YES, and yes.
Jodie My Jodie
If memory serves, in The Accused, Jodie never took a gun to anyone, and I don't even think she got judicial revenge.
Guh? So the similarity is... Jodie and bad-guys?
In other news: CAN HARDLY WAIT!
