Jodie's got a gun

After watching the trailer for the new Jodie Foster film The Brave One, I think the only appropriate response is, “Wow, that was intense.” Really, really intense.

The psychological thriller follows Jodie’s character, radio talk show host Erica Bain, as she recovers from a brutal attack that leaves her fiancé (Lost’s Naveen Andrews) dead and her life in turmoil. As she struggles to find peace and justice, she cuts a swath of gun-toting vigilante justice through the streets of New York. That’s all fine and good, but I’d like to take a moment to thank whatever brilliant costumer designer decided to put Jodie in a series of sleeveless shirts. Say hello to toned gun-wielding arms. Hello.

Jodie has perfected the strong-woman-in-jeopardy genre and made it her own. She banishes all whiffs of damselism by making whatever peril lies ahead match up against her instinctual intelligence. And with one flash of her crystalline cerulean eyes, you just know peril is toast.

The Brave One, while essentially a revenge drama, looks promising not only because of Jodie’s presence, but also the strong cast (Terrence Howard, Mary Steenburgen, Jane Adams and newcomer Zoe Kravitz), talented director Neil Jordan (The Crying Game, Breakfast on Pluto) and the complex questions its plot poses.

In the scant 2 minutes and 28 seconds of the trailer, we see Jodie go through a lifetime of emotions: love, fear, pain, loss, confusion and rage. When Jodie’s voice breaks, I catch my breath (the sound of strength cracking gets me every time). And when she demands with an iron whisper, “I want my dog back,” you know it’s time for some serious ass-kicking. Bring on the popcorn.

Helloooooo Ms. Foster!

*blink* Well, I know what I'll be doing the weekend this comes out. *insert lecherous giggling here*

Looking Forward To It!

I'd like to see this film too!
We can always count on Jodie Foster to deliver. ;-)

As much as I would love to look into those soul-penetrating eyes...I would never want to be on the other side of that gun!

BTW, Mic, I'd like to hear the sound of your "lecherous giggle."

lecherous giggle

Well, to be honest, with your current avatar, there's a lot of lecherous giggling to be had. Shall I record some for you? *wink*

;-)

Ah, yes...the new avatar of Cate seems to draw some extra attention. ;-)
(Mercy suggested changing my avatar, so...I did.)

Hmmm...I have blonde hair and green eyes.

That's not me, but...it could be, if...
I was hot!
;-)

A recording of lecherous giggling?
Tempting...

Hmmm....

Well, I AM a sucker for blondes...

Crikey!

Wow, this looks awesome! There's one bit where she looks a little bit Agent Starling in the way she says something, which is rather exciting!  She looks excellent as well. I think this film might rock...

Shame about the title, though, I reckon... But in a world of naff and cliched film titles there's not a lot left to pick from really.

But forget that - it's time for some kick ass Jodie action - alright! xxx

Wow! I'm not into arms

But Ms. Foster's arms made me think of that old routine of Susan Westenhoefer about Martina Navratilova's arms... I feel like licking those biceps!  She looks so hot!!! Tom Cruise, here comes competition for you impossible missions!

Sweet.

That's all, just one word. I'm so glad Jodie Foster came out of hiding and started making all these bad-ass movies.

You Know...

To be honest, I'm not going to bother seeing this. Don't get me wrong, I adore Jodie Foster, I always have.

Yet The Brave One seems strikingly familiar. Could that be because she's done this story line before? Anyone ever see 'The Accused'. Same f'kin thing, only I believe the endings will be different. If memory serves, in The Accused, Jodie never took a gun to anyone, and I don't even think she got judicial revenge.

However - good on her, and I hope those that see it enjoy it. Please don't be mad at me. I'm sore today.

Lookin' Good

Whoa, that is one of the best trailers I've seen in a long time. It's like she's Batman!

October???

I can't believe I have to wait til October to see this. I hadn't even been aware of the movie coming out this year. Now I know - and I (as a German) have to wait till OCTOBER - NOOOO! I guess I have to rewatch some of her other movies until then. My favorite is The Silence of the Lambs, with Maverick (yes! she can do comedy as well) as runner-up. Little Man Tate, Nell and The Accused share third place. I didn't care much for Flightplan or Inside Man except for the fact that she was in them. I guess one of the things that make her movies great for me is the fact that there are so few and they're far between. It makes the audience appreciate each one so much. Just my two cents.

I'm looking forward to this one

Even if it makes me cry. I'm wondering: is this movie is based on a novel of the same name?

Just when you think you know

Just when you think you know what to expect from Jodie, she zigs completely in another direction. I am loving it that Jodie has reinvented herself as this bad-ass reluctant hero.

The Accused was as much about Kelly McGillis and her character as it was about Foster's finding justice within an uncaring system. While rape and the devastation of its aftermath may be a common denominator, this story walks squarely into Charles Bronson territory.  Sarah Tobias was ragged, raw and emotionally frail, but she wasn't a vigilante. She never would have turned a gun on her attackers. It took everything she had just to face them in a courtroom.  Kathryn Murphy, however, might have been a different story.

Kicking butt and taking names suits Foster well, so if she wants to do the same thing over and over and over again, it is okey-dokey by me.  Personally, I'd love to see her revisit some of her old characters anyway.  I liked the "cleaner" character she played in Inside Man and I'd like to see more of it.

Taxi Driver meets Deathwish

I've developed a serious Jodie crush in the last year or so, and I would watch this movie no matter how awful it was (I saw Flightplan 3xs!). Luckily with Neil Jordan on board, it looks solid. He's great at subtly exploring the complexities of gender and gender stereotypes. Plus, I hear that the taxi scene between Jodie and Zooey Kravitz(Lenny's daughter) could be interpreted as a lovemaking scene...

I'm SO going to

See this movie! I have heard about this movie about a year ago and then didn't hear anything for awhile and now I'm totally EXCITED. Crush on her for as long as I can remember!

!!!

wow...hearing the premise of this i wasn't sure how well it would turn out, but this looks damn interesting. i don't think this is gonna be "the accused" all over again. looks like a trip into the mind of someone affected by violence. i have been the victim of violence, and struggled with the very unexpected violent reactions that i had afterwards. wanting to hurt the perpetrators, fantasizing about it, the whole nine. no one ever told me about that part. i am VERY interested in seeing how the delve into this, since this character obviously goes a few steps further.

can't wait til this comes out.

YES, and yes.

and also, I think this movie was filmed near my house. I remember half the streets closed a long while back, and when I looked up the movie listed on the no-parking slips on IMDB, her name came up. I think this was the movie. Pretty cool.

Jodie My Jodie

Guh? So the similarity is... Jodie and bad-guys?

In other news: CAN HARDLY WAIT!

Prospect Park, Brooklyn

Hey! I think that area where she and her husband are assaulted was filmed in these really creepy tunnels in Prospect Park in Brooklyn, NY. What's weird is that they have benches built into them, as though anyone would go in sit in the semi-dark. But I guess back in the day when they were built, people weren't thinking of how dangerous the tunnels could be.

LOVE ME SOME JODIE

Bad-Ass Jodie - HELL YEAH!!! BRING IT ON!! I loved loved loved flightplan despite the fact that it didn't get rave reviews. She has got such INTENSE EYES... *swoon*. She definitely has come into her own, she's getting better and better everytime!

Justice

Sarah's recent poster post sent me scurrying back to see the trailer again. YAY! I love the trailer and think this gonna be a winner of movie. Like I said to a friend a few years ago about justice: Vigilante justice is ugly, but at least it's honest. Oh, you know, just how the Celts were a bit mortified by how the Romans had codified laws and then and thereby laws could be manipulated and distorted. Not that I'm saying vigilante justice is just, just that justice is an illusion.
