Shirley Manson gets Terminated

Sarah Connor is taking in the Garbage. Well, actually, the sci-fi series is taking in Garbage frontwoman Shirley Manson as its newest cast member. The masterminds behind Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles have announced the Shirley will join the show for its second season. I’m going to give you all a minute to process the sheer awesomeness of this news. Perhaps a photo will help:

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Scottish singer will play series regular Catherine Weaver, the CEO of a cutting-edge high-tech firm. No word on whether she will be on Sarah and company’s side or on the side of the machines. But the mere thought of her sharing the screen with Lena Headey and Summer Glau is enough to make me actually squeal with delight. Needless to say, be glad you weren’t sitting near me when I first read the news.

This will be Shirley’s first big foray into acting. I really have no idea what kind of actress she is, but we can only hope that she brings along that sexy Scottish accent. I’ve also always loved Shirley’s tendency to gender-bend. Normally, the news of another singer crossing over into acting elicits disgruntled groan from me. But, in this case, the there might be a groan, but it definitely won’t be disgruntled.

The Terminator film franchise spin-off returns for its sophomore season in the fall. The midseason series was the highest-rated new scripted show last season. So, what do you think Shirley will bring to the role? Or are you, like me, having trouble forming multi-syllabic words after picturing the kick-ass trio of Lena, Summer and Shirley?

    I didn't think hte cast could get any better, but adding a fellow Scot into the mix will certainly add to all the on-screen drama + excitement!!!!!!! x

    the band and their music, and am a huge fan of Lena Headey and the whole Terminator franchise, so hey!  Shirley Manson can only make a good show even better.  Besides, Scottish accents are very sexy.

    I went absolutely cuckoo after I first read about this. And then I spent the rest of the day googling it over and over, and pinching myself, to make sure it wasn't just an awesome dream. I kinda love her, you see. And Lena Headey.

    I have a feeling miss Manson's gonna be a baddie... And what a great bad girl she'd make!

    Upon hearing these news I screamed with delight, and immediately thought of the potential for some Lena / Shirley. uuhm, Catherine Weaver / Sarah Connor action.

     

    ...and let's all pray they let Shirley keep her Scottish accent, hey?

    I'm so excited about this. Now I really can't wait for the next season to begin.

    I just really hope the producers don't make her do an American accent...

    I have been in love with Shirley Manson (those eyes...that accent...) and Garbage since I was 8 years old.  I'm stoked that she's gonna be on TSCC.  The first season was great, now the second season is gonna be even better.

    I so wanted to squeal/scream when I started reading, but one of the cats is laying on my bed right behind me, and he's being sleepy kitty right now, so I don't wanna wake him up.

    This is the best news I´v ever hear recently!!! My favorite singer join to one of my favorite tv shows with one of my favorite actress!!! Just hope that they dont make her lost her beautiful scottish accent.

    I must have lost them while scrolling down..along Shirley's suspenders...

    I hope the writers will allow her character to keep some of her own attributes: the red hair, the attitude, the kick-ass poses, the crazy make up. And maybe throw in a few tank tops and guns just to spice it up...

    This can't be bad.. Can't wait to see if the Manson lady can act !

    will be good to see a fellow scot in a tv show i love.hopefully she gets to keep her accent cos i think it will be hard for her to change it convincingly as this is her first acting gig.

    Im speechless, it's all i can say. Shirley Manson on The Sarah Chronicles!!!!!!!! Please please keep her with her gorgeous Scotish accent, that would be great. I dont care if she is on Sarah's team or not or if she's a good actress or not hehe, the thing is that she's on!! Let's enjoy the wonderful Shirley ladies!! if she could just wear suspenders on the show too..:P

    I know this is old news but I'm excited about seeing Shirley on t.v cos I only got into Garbage about 2 years ago and of course they were on hiatus then! I really hope she keeps her Scottish accent, tis one of the reasons she's so sexy! But I bet they'll make her do an American accent, oh well can't complain, it's gonna be brill anyway! I wonder if the new series will be shown in the UK the same time it is in America! I really hope so!
