Sarah Shahi cops out for "Life"

Well, damn. Now I’m going to have to watch Life, too. After carefully plotting out my fall TV viewing schedule, I had committed to not adding any more shows. I am but one poor, tired blogger. I cannot carry this weight alone. At some point I need to sleep and see sunlight again. Please, no more. But, alas, the television gods had other plans for me, because after I had decided against watching Life — despite the delicious Sarah Shahi — they had to go and show me this.

Oh, Sarah. A white tank top? You’re not even playing fair. It’s like the lesbian Field of Dreams: If you wear it, they will come. I fly the white flag of surrender. You win, I’ll watch. Go ahead and cover up now — your diabolical plan worked.

Actually, I had been somewhat interested in Life before being suckered into submission by the siren call of the white tank top. Mainly, the idea of Sarah packing heat and taking names was the draw. But I’m still not totally sold on the premise. A cop gets framed, sentenced to life in prison, acquitted years later and then decides to go back to work as a cop as a sly way to find out who framed him in the first place? Uh, isn’t this The Fugitive but with firmer legal ground and without Harrison Ford?

The new publicity shots highlight something else I’ve noticed with the marketing of some of fall’s new offerings. The first round of photos comes out, and then later, perhaps in the face of lukewarm reviews, the second round comes out with, shall we say, a decidedly different look. It happened with the Bionic Woman. Take a look at these promo shots for Life from May (top) and September (bottom) and tell me if you can pinpoint the difference.

Seriously, what’s with all these female cops in tank tops? Not that I disapprove. But I’m trying to remember the last time I got pulled over for speeding and the officer sauntered up to me in a tank top and jeans. Or the last time she looked like Sarah Shahi. Hmm, maybe I should start speeding more, just in case.

Life premieres Wednesday, Sept. 26 at 10/9c on NBC.

I totally didn't recognized her. Ok I guess I too will be starting to watch this show though I highly doubt it'll make it pass 6 episodes.

*Swoon*

Ms. Snarker, please next time the preamble about "possible concussion warning*  You know what, forget it, I'm making a note to myself to have cushions handy whenever I see a blog from you.

I'm not a TV watcher, but......... gosh darn it, Sarah Shahi *goes weak in the knees*.. and in a tank top......so not fair (but unfair can be pretty good at times)... *thud*.

*Extra note to self, take out extra medical insurance - I'm sure to do real damage to myself if I keep this up.*

the way a promo shot works

actually the way promo shots work evolves from a couple of rounds and they can differ from show to show and network to network...

FIRST - images are captured, sometimes even before shooting takes place, just to get the advertising team basic material to work with to make comps for advertisers to become familair with the show and it's possible premise.

SECOND - once shooting begins and the flow of the story is starting to become realized, the network has their say of whether they like the story and character direction - then another set of shots are captured, along sometimes with footage, to further allow the advertising team to move ahead

THIRD - this round fluctuates - typically it comes along much later after many eps have been shot and the marketing/advertising team has a promotion plan that they then need to narrow down to how the show and its characters will be presented.

That's why specific looks and actors (physically and emotionally) can change at such an alarming pace - its very organic and is constantly flowing - hopefully that sheds some light ;-)

Sarah Shahi

is a very beautiful woman and a fine actress.

And I hate the thought that I might never get to see the show here in Germany. Or miss it because it´s shown on some expensive pay-tv-channel late at night without any announcement.

Good call...

I like Damian Lewis in this show, and I hear that the second episode is better than the first.  (Side note: Shahi has a shower scene in the pilot, but it is more upsetting than sexy within the context of the show and her character.  Whatever, it still rocks.)

Sarah Shahi

The plot video for "life" can be see free on Nbc.com http://www.nbc.com/Life/video/episodes.shtml. I had mixed feelings about Sarah Shahi role as "Dani Reese." In some scenes she is portrayed as a gritty cop with a dark past, in another scene she's showering semi-dressed(see the video for context, I won't spoil it for you.) Ok, I admit seeing Sarah Shahi in a white wife beater tank top is got my attention. Also,on the site Sarah Shahi's casting credit "The L Word" isn't mentioned, instead they list her bit part in "Rush Hour 3!" What?
