News, Reviews & Commentary on Lesbian and Bisexual women in Entertainment and the Media

No "Bones" to pick, just watch

I love crime procedurals. They require just enough brain power to keep me interested but not so much that I need a flow chart and CliffsNotes from the previous week to keep up. Also, I love it when smart women in lab coats squint at things.

So I was interested to see these new promo shots for the third season of Bones. I’ve watched, on and off, since the first season and have enjoyed the sexy-meets-silly-and-marries-smart chemistry between Dr. Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and Special Agent Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz). The pair is like the love child of Scully/Mulder and Maddie/David (from Moonlighting; please be old enough to remember Moonlighting).

Now, in the interest of full disclosure, one of the cast members is the sibling of one of my close friends, so I could be biased. But I think the show has really come into its own and found a happy place between hardcore crime drama and whimsical romantic comedy. Plus, as a Buffy and Angel fan, I’m eternally inclined to root for David. And, well, getting to stare at Emily every week doesn’t hurt either.

And the eye candy, of course, does not stop there. Michaela Conlin and Tamara Taylor make me wish I’d taken more of an interest in science.

So bring on Sept. 25. And now that the show is moving to Tuesdays, I’ll have a one-two punch of Bones and House each week. My couch, it beckons.

I love Emily

I love Emily Deschanel.
Seriously, I do.

I completely agree ... this has been a surprise enjoyment for me (especially given how atrociously bad Fox is at making shows that appeal to me in the slightest), and I am currently catching up on the episodes I missed on DVD.

But yes, Temperance Brennan is a really interesting character (as well as downright HOT ... and I adore her wardrobe, I have to say). Not to mention, she is one of the few characters out there that is openly atheist, and that is INCREDIBLY rare on television ... possibly even more so than being lesbian ... so speaking as an atheist, it's really wonderful to see.

Did I mention, of course, that she is hot? ;)

Though, I have to say, Michaela Conlin is totally my crush in this show ... they cover it up well, but if you ever check out her arms or, more particularly, her pecs, she is BUILT. I adore seeing women who are athletic and love muscles, and she apparently is one *drool*

Of course, a powerful compentent woman like Tamara Taylor in a position of authority? I'm not complaining. *grin*

This is one of the few shows I am actually actively awaiting the return of.

Bones & Booth <3

It's rare you'll hear me say this but...

I want Bones and Booth to get it on. Like yesterday. They have the most amazing chemistry. I love them seperately but together they would fast become my favorite on screen couple.

You know I agree with you :)

I Love Bones

I remember seeing the promo for the first season and thinking it was gonna be some kind of boring CSI-ripoff. I'm REALLY glad I decided to give it a chance anyway, cause I've been hooked ever since. It's funny, clever and sexy, and I actually like both leads, instead of just the woman (that really doesn't happen a lot). But yeah, Emily and Michaela are both hot (although... Angela and Hodgins? Whose idea was that? Gross), and that definately helps too.

By the way, does anyone remember the episode (early s1) where Zack and Hodgins are all over this cute delivery girl, who then turns out to be interested in Angela? It was cute. The ep is called The Man in the Bear, I found a vid on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PEtRUdWHiPM&mode=related&search

Oh yes I remember that! It

Oh yes I remember that! It was awesome. Especially because Angela was downright happy about it, instead of annoyed, or offensed, or awkward, or whatever =D

I love ur avatar! I loved

I love ur avatar! I loved that scene! I love "bones"! Come on 25th, anytime now! I love Dr. Brennan, so much that I even named my puppy Temperance! woohoo!!

Yes!

Angela and Hodgins together just TOTALLY squicks me out (though if I were straight I'd probably go for a guy like Hodgins ... sans beard mind you), as they just don't work ... at all. It's not about them being straight, it's just ... ick.

That said, I do think if there was anyone that could have a lesbian relationship in that show, I do think it could be Angela ... I totally LOVED that scene with the delivery women (who was totally hawt I have to say). I think it just would really work for her character ... though I admit that could be self-interest talking :)

Mind you, now that I think about it. Tamara Taylor's character could definitely come over to our side ... after all, it would definitely provide some nice humourous teasing for Booth on him having turned her to women ;)

As an addendum, I personally hope they hold off on having Bones and Booth hook up, as the sexual tension and connection would just totally be ruined by giving in to it.

Oh my god...

I love this show so such, I can happily watch the re runs over and over. I love the chemistry between the characters and the friendship between Brennan and Angela and the show's fab use of music too. Even the occassional cheesiness and complete lack of lesbians doesn't bother me!

Dorothy Snarker you rock, I always love your blogs!

I love Bones  (the show)

I love Bones (the beautiful Emily Deschanel)

I love Seeley Booth too! (although admitedly less than Brennan, and in a decidedly different way...)

And i love how it is not as serious as other crime procedurals. Dont get me wrong, i adore CSI, but this is a breath of fresh air.

And as much as i love any subtext/maintext/any kind of hints at text between women on TV...i am totally feeling the Brennan/Booth vibe. Those characters are just written for each other...

Bones is the only reason I

Bones is the only reason I haven't completely boycotted the Fox network for being idiots and canceling great shows (Firefly, anyone?). I admit, part of Brennan's charm is that she is more socially awkward than I am, and that's always fun to see. I definitely like how she is a strong woman, but not stereotypically so that she is unemotional and unreachable. Can't wait for the new season!

Agree!

I completely agree with all of the above!

I love Emily Deschanel!  Bones is one of the only two returning shows that I am looking forward to.  My only problem is that the other show is NCIS and they are both on Tuesdays at 8!! Do you see my dilema?  Who to watch live and who to record?  Emily Deschanel vs Pauley Perette???  My, my...is it getting hot in here?

And of course David is great too. I can't help it I love him.  I just want to give him a hug.  He reminds me of a teddy bear.  Even as Angel/Angelus I just wanted to hug him.

I wholeheartedly agree with

I wholeheartedly agree with everyone else who emphatically stated that they love Emily Deschanel... Emily (and her sister Zooey) are both fantastic actresses.
I enjoy watching the show and even love the chemistry between Bones and Booth...
And tm02... love Pauley Perrette as well.

I don't know about Angela...

I don't know about Angela... I think she might be open to a girl-on-girl-experience, but on the other hand she IS kinda boy-crazy. Anyway, if the chemistry between Booth and Brennan wasn't as believable as it is, I would think Brennan was just really gay.

Actually, I just want Angela and Brennan to get drunk and make out and not regret it afterwards. I like this Angela-quote from the Christmas episode:

^ Yeah I want that too. And

^ Yeah I want that too. And the Christmas episode is one of my faves!
Together with the one where Angela's boyfriend disappears and Brennan hops onto an airplane immediately and tries to comfort her, eventually.
Yes, good times =)
Robin91's picture

Ooh, I thought there was

Ooh, I thought there was quite a bit of subtext in that episode. Now, I see subtext everywhere, but that was kinda obvious. Or maybe it's just my dirty mind. But I liked it anyway. The music in that ep was awesome, by the way, definately one of my faves.
redsapphoAU's picture

Subtext - not your imagination!

The subtext was probably real, as that episode was directed by Donna Deitch (Desert Hearts). I remember seeing her name in the opening credits and noticing the relationship of Ange and Temperance being highlighted more than usual. That's my favourite episode of Bones ever. :-)

Love Bones

There aren't many shows that my sister and I both watch, but Bones is one of 'em. I love the characters, that big lab set, the storylines, just about everything. And yes, the chemistry between the leads is palpable.

Ahhh!

OMG ARE YOU FRIENDS WITH ZOOEY DESCHANEL!!! Can you give her my number plz!!
NorthernStar's picture

I've had a crash on Emily Deschanel

from the first second I layed my eyes on her, and with that sexy voice....

The show I am not crazy about. Never been a Boreanaz fan, and I MUCH prefer Moonlight (yes, I'm old enough) and the X files, which this show really reminds me of. Also, the romantic/sexual tension is far to obvious and lacks any kind of originality or real depth.

Don't get me wrong though: I'll watch the show when it returns!

Wild Child's picture

Well, chemistry or not there

Well, chemistry or not there had to be sexual tension between them. One of those unwritten laws of female/male partners in crime procedurals. But I do think they play it off ok. At least the friendship factor, and that's usually the best start point for relationships to function in these shows.

Ah, and as for Emily eye candy, I'd go for
http://img530.imageshack.us/img530/5449/004sx4.jpg as the best promo pic thus far =)
