"Nine" brings a bevy of beauties, but will it sing? They say Italians do it better. Well, what about actors pretending to be Italians? Does that count? Looks like we’ll find out over the holidays when the new big-stars, big-budget musical Nine hits the big screen.
The film stars Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz, Kate Hudson, Marion Cotillard and Fergie as a bevy of beautiful women (not too much of a stretch) involved in the life Guido Contini, a playboy Italian film director in the midst of a midlife crisis played by Daniel Day-Lewis (slightly more of a stretch). A new trailer gives us a taste of the all-singing, all-dancing extravaganza. Well that was, um, flashy. While I’m excited about the prospect of a film with so many female stars, I’m still somewhere just short of wowed. Perhaps it’s because Kate Hudson hasn’t been in a good movie since Almost Famous. Perhaps it’s because all these women are focusing on one guy. Some guys have all the luck.
The movie is based on the Broadway musical which was based on famed director Federico Fellini's autobiographical film 8½. Marion plays Guido’s wife, Penelope his mistress, Nicole his film muse, Kate an American fashion journalist and Fergie a prostitute from his youth. Oh, and Dame Judi Dench plays his confidant and costume designer and Sophia Loren his mother. Seriously, some guys have all the luck.
Nine opens wide on Christmas day. OK, I take it back, now I’m wowed.
So, are excited about Nine? Or possibly just Penelope in that outfit and that, um, bendy? Submitted by on November 25, 2009 - 12:00pm. |

EXCITED..
yeah i saw the trailer for nine two days ago & was like YEAH i wanna see this.
When I saw this trailer in
Go here for my view on all things lesbian: http://allthingslesbeau.blogspot.com
bendy is good
That's all I have to say
"Every time two lesbians kiss, an angel gets its wings." --Roseanne
uh?...no.
Poor Fellini
Best imagery ever
Indeed, poor Fellini, and then to add insult to injury, to go from Marcello Mastroianni to Daniel-Day Lewis. I find most American produced/directed portrayals of "Italian culture" nauseating.
Knowing the show
Knowing the show it's based on very well I am excited but think some audiences won't know what they are getting themselves into with this musical adaption. This is no Hairspray or Chicago. The dark and twisted relationship stuff in this film will turn some audiences off and, for the most part, the music in this show isn't your typical sing along stuff. It's almost operatic in it's style.
I am looking forward to it but could see others thinking this is not their cup of tea
Conflicted
I started the trailer yesterday and didn't like it so much,
but it's a musical so there's no way I'll be missing it!
Kate's number
I'm in!
A bevy of singing and dancing beauties? Double wow.
Directed by Rob Marshall? Written by Anthony Minghella?
Hell to the yes!nine
No...but
Penelope Cruz...HELL YEES!! I sigh everytime she comes up on screen. And the rope dance and that bendy *faints*
_________
vivono nella speranza
I have been waiting...
since this movie was announced, to see it.
Sophia Loren is one of the biggest inspirations in my life, so I am so excited to be able to see her on the big screen for once!
I wish it was Christmas already!
so excited.
I can't wait to see Nine. It looks like it's going to be amazing.
& I heard Kate Hudson is actually incredible in it.
I wish it was Christmas already too :]
I know!
i don't even like musicals and i'm excited!
im SO exciteddd!!!
im SO exciteddd!!!
not becuase im a fan of any of them. i really dont like penelope cruz.
but i must admit i do like kate hudson.
but omg when i saw this trailer i was like :O
especially the one with Kate Hudson singing Cinema Italiano
that alone makes me dyinggg to see this film haha.
plus im a musical fanatic, and Rob Marshall is amazing
so count me in. hope it comes out in Australia the same day
yea, i'm excited to see the,
yea, i'm excited to see the film, the trailer really excited me. i'm not really too crazy about the typical plot of a group of women fawing all over one man, (especially daniel day-lewis. really? just how far am i going to suspend my belief to see this film?) but i've always had a thing for marion cotillard and kate hudson, so i want to see it.
and what's going on with nicole kidman, why does she look so washed out and skinny, like a starving ghost? the super blonde hair makes her look crazy. is she trying to disappear?
I definitely want to see this
-
I cannot wait for this film
I guess I want the gossip on
I guess I want the gossip on what it was like for Nicole Kidman/Penelope Cruz working side by side - I sort of want to see this movie but since Penelope came out in defense of Polanski I am boycotting her!
I'd think you would need a stiff drink after being mired in Jenny's masturbatory opus all day long - Bette
super excited!
I am so excied to see this film. Im a HUGE Fellini fan and I can't wait to see how Rob Marshall pulls this together.
and btw Kate Hudson and Penelope Cruz dancing and singing in little outfits ain't bad either =]
can't wait!
It's a musical?
Then I don't care what its about, I'm going to go and see it!!! And I love flashy over the top musical numbers WITHIN musicals even more.....So yes. I am going to go and see it!
Not interested
Daniel Day Lewis is a really good actor, but im not interested in the film itself.
Not the fact that its about a group of people fawing over some dude, but I wonder if they are going to endorse some stereotypes about the italian culture even more so... and its a musical. Im not big on musicals.
I give it a pass.
