ok...so i feel a whole lot better knowing i'm not the only person who saw the hot 100 and nearly cried! especially because didn't they just have the least attractive list too? and it had plenty of "beautiful" women on it who just didn't match up to the maxim-man's ridiculous idea of beauty.

who are they to decided what beautiful is!? they are probably a bunch of ugly, mean-hearted, ass-eyes sitting at home with no woman of their own except, of course, for the pictures they collect from the pages of maxim.

anyways...thanks for this article...i'm glad women are taking notice of how ridiculous these lists are...

lindsay lohan as #1?  number ONE??  wow, the world has gone insane.  She's pretty, but definatly not worth making the top of the list!  Dare I ask where Angelina appeared?  And Halle B. as #55????  Wow, judging by this list, I'm surprised the new bald Britney didn't make it to the top 5.

Did the rest of you even remotely start drooling after the Kate/America/Tina picture came up, and I for one think that using Maxim for any kind of reference to women's beauty is like using Mary Poppins as a guide to childcare. No offence, though, Dorothy, you're still fabulous.

 We already have a list of people who the afterellen users think are fine, so why not just compile a list of the top 100.....I vote Rachel Weisz.....then, you know, do a spotlight....

I think you'd get hot and bothered looking at Maxim no matter the month, no matter the cover story, no matter the drivel. Why look at it? Even most guys recognize that magazine for what it is: junk food culture. Anybody who is equal parts tabloids and tits would make the top of the list. Anna Nicole Smith held the spot until she croaked.

It pains me to even have to respond to this - When I saw it on Access, I wanted to poke my own eyes out - Wat in the world has this world come to?  LOHAN - for the love of .....Ooohh... IT'S A DOWNRIGHT OUTRAGE!  I was not a Maxim fan before and this has made it worse.  Someone must have gotten dumbed by his/their girlfriend and decided that this was the way they were going to get revenge. LOHAN!!!! PPPPP.....LEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!  I'm convinced that those guys at maxim are all experiencing a mid-life crisis all at the same time - There can be no other explanation.

Bash Maxim all day long- it's junk and they've obviously got a narrow world-view. But don't pretend they're doing anything that After Ellen doesn't- it's simply that the objects of desire on AE are more varied in type. I mean, She Said What could feature the Queen of England opening up about her secret love affair with Margaret Thatcher and 90% of the comments would still be "OMG Lauren is so hot!"

Do we really care what Maxim thinks? Over here in Australia, it's a men's magazine. I'm not sure about the rest of the world to be honest and please forgive me if I'm mistaken in thinking it's two different magazines.

If it's not - let's all keep in mind that Maxim is written by men, for men, thus any opinion they share can be negated. Or reniged. Or any other lawylerly type jargon you wish to use to make the idea better. And, what does it matter what some magazine claims? We all know they print bollocks anyways! I mean, Kate Mulgrew loosing out to Lindsay? PLEASE!

Maxim isn't even a men's magazine, per say.  Isn't their target demographic teenage boys?  It's a lad-mag, like FHM and Blender, the ones they don't have to hide from them their mommy.  Given the demographic, of course their #1 cover-girl is skeevy Lindsay Lohan.  If she weren't such a good girl, it would probably be Hayden Panettierre. 

The Maxim list itself is all over the place -- Kelly Ripa? WTF? Are Halle Berry and Salma Hayek the only women over 40?

No matter how awesome she may be, no teenage boy is ever going to have Tina Fey plastered all over his locker at school.  Some of their female classmates, however, may be a totally different story. 

I'm glad not to see Kate Winslet or America Ferrera.  Hopefully that means they wouldn't pose for them.  

As for Kate Mulgrew, teenage boys don't even know who she is, aside from the geeky few who will admit to watching Voyager.  She probably wouldn't even rate on a MILF listing, and I'm sure that Maxim and FHM have had those as well. 

If Curve were to have a Hot 100 list, however, she'd be a contender for Top 20. 

 Apparantly it's 'hot' to be a drugged up, washed up talentless nothing.

At least Lindsay'll have one 'achievement' later in life when she wonders where it all went.

And Fergie? Really? Plastic make-up and collagen lips are beauty? No. That's just society. And this list is confirming with it.

Hot to me is physically appealing, fit, does not necessarily mean he/she is attractive in a sophisticated way or has any special charm (which is sexy). Like I would find Nicole from PCD hot but I wouldn't think she's sexy while I think Lucy Liu is hella sexy. So though I don't agree with the list (based on my personal taste) I don't think there's a problem with the list coz it's the hot list, NOT the sexy or beautiful list.

Numbered lists, no matter who makes them, are always debatable. This Maxim list is nothing more than what a certain group of people think. All the women on the list are attractive in one form or another....once you put numbers next to the names the debate begins to rage. Lindsay Lohan is attractive and may be someones number 1 even, but I imagine many of the targeted readers of Maxim are scratching their heads at this one. Two main problems with a list of this type:

1. Putting the listees in a numerical order only opens up a huge debate

2. No matter how big the list, there isn't room for everyones favorite.

I haven't bothered to even look at the list, but I doubt there is anyone over age 40 on it, or that there is any women who would shop in a plus size store I doubt there are any beautiful yet handicapped women on the list.

I could see a list generated by lesbians but I would hope its not numerically ordered and is basically a never ending list as well.

She definately doesnt deserve to be number 1 on this list! There are so many other beautiful women that could be at that spot!!
