Lauren Graham comes back to TV, but not as a GilmoreHey, Lauren Graham. Damn, girl, where have you been? You look great, by the way. What's Rory up to these days? Wait, shoot, fiction-reality, reality-fiction. Though, looks like I will be happily blurring those lines again now that you'll be returning to TV as the star of a new series.
According to Variety, the as-yet-untitled half-hour sitcom has Lauren playing a self-help guru who “teaches women how to live a stress-free life — but struggles to follow her own advice when her boyfriend dumps her.” I like the teaching women part. I'm not sure about the struggling-after-being-dumped-by–her-boyfriend part. Also, it will take a little getting used to seeing Lauren on TV without Alexis Bledel.
Giving me even more pause is that Lauren has signed her production deal with ABC. You know, the channel that fired Brooke Smith and canceled Pushing Daisies. Just when I thought I was out, ABC tries to pull me back in.
But making me happier, once again, is the creative team behind the project. The show features Will & Grace's Alex Herschlag and Arrested Development's Mitchell Hurwitz among its executive producers. That's a pretty impressive pedigree of funny. As long as they make good use of Lauren's ability to crack wise while talking quickly, it's hard to see how they could go wrong. Plus the men also score high in the lesbian equivalent of the Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon game. They both worked on past projects with Ellen DeGeneres — Herschlag on her first sitcom, Ellen, and Hurwitz on her short-lived second sitcom, The Ellen Show. Come to think of it, Lauren has been a regular guest on Ellen's talk show, too. Shoot, Ellen should ask for a producer credit or at very least a thank you in the credits.
No word yet on when the new show will air, but before Lauren makes her return to TV, she will make her debut on Broadway in the revival of Guys and Dolls. The musical starts previews in February and opens in March with Lauren as the female lead, Miss Adelaide. That should also be interesting, too, since I've seen Lauren sing on Ellen. Actually, I'm sure she'll do great since I'm pretty sure “Leaving on a Jet Plane” isn't one of the numbers. So, what do you think? Will you be watching this girl return to TV Gilmore-less? YAY!
I love her. I'm super-disapointed I'm missing her in Guys and Dolls, especially taking it off in "Take Back Your MInk."
But I'm excited about her return to the small screen . I'm always impressed with Lauren Graham because she's always seems so witty even when she's just herself, without a script.
Big BIG Fan
Yes, please. Graham on TV is well needed, I just love her. Normally, when a new show is announced the skeptical part of me goes "Oh, here we go, .. how long is this gonna last?''
But I'm excited, not only because it involves Lauren Graham but also because of the impressive pedigree of funny as you so correctly called it. I hope it's strong enough to get people's attention, the ones who have never seen Gilmore Girls (HOW COME?).
She deserves this, so .. Yay!

I'm really looking forward to it. Can't wait, actually! Gilmore girls is my favorite TV-series ever and that's not only because of the great writing. Lauren is such a great actress... I really do agree with you guys!
And about the singing-lauren-experience... isn't it just hilarious! :D But no matter how funny and clumsy she presents it, secrety I believe in her singing abilities anyhow!
You know it's ok.
All I have to say is...
Excellent.
Ah, Ms Graham, I love thee.
I have missed Lauren Graham, and I am most definitely willing to give her some of my time once a week.
Heck, she can have the whole seven days if she wants!

Woo hoo!
Lauren Graham in Guys and Dolls
I saw the first matinee yesterday and being that Guys and Dolls is my favorite movie of all time, I was pleasantly surprised.
Lauren definitely put her own stamp on Adelaide. She was slightly ditzier and funnier. I was surprised by her voice. It was very good and carried well. She wasn't as nasal as the original and I enjoyed it.
Oliver Platt as Nathan, eh. He made Nathan seem like a push-over and a simpleton.
Craig Bierko's (Sky) voice was really good.
The actress playing Sarah Brown was eh. Her voice was to opera-ish.
Nicely-Nicely was better than nice. His voice is great-great.
Overall, I like the production of Guys and Dolls. Lauren got the most applause and screams (mostly from me) at the curtain call.
*Why did this turn into a review? I just meant to talk about LG.
