Lauren Graham pinch hits in “Parenthood”

Welcome back to my TV, finally, Lorelai! OK, fine, so she won’t be playing Lorelai Gilmore. But Lauren Graham is coming back to TV as the replacement for Maura Tierney in the upcoming NBC series Parenthood.

Lauren finalized a deal on Friday to take over for Maura, who left the production to undergo treatment for breast cancer. Helen Hunt has been in talks to take over the part earlier, but they fell through. So Lauren stepped into the role of Sarah, a single mom raising two teens who moves back with her parents in Berkeley.

This is Lauren’s first return to TV since Gilmore Girls ended in 2007 after seven seasons. Her previous comeback attempt in a sitcom playing a self-help guru, was never picked up. She joins a large ensemble cast in the hour-long family dramedy that includes Six Feet Under alum Peter Krause, Coach star Craig T. Nelson, Punk’d veteran Dax Shepard, Bonnie Bedelia, Monica Potter, Erika Christensen and Sarah Ramos.

It’s great to have Lauren return to TV. Sure, it’s weird not to see Alexis Bledel by her side. But I’m sure I’ll get over it as long as Lauren gets a chance to talk fast and crack a few jokes. So what do you think, is Lauren perfect for Parenthood?
