KT Tunstall walks like an EgyptianHow about a little reader participation? First, slide your feet up the street. Now bend your back. Next, shift your arm. Then you pull it back. That’s right, my friend, you’re walking like an Egyptian. And you know who else is right there with you? KT Tunstall.
The British songstress has covered the Bangles’ “Walk Like an Egyptian” for Yahoo! Music’s Cover Art series (you may remember Mandy Moore’s impassioned take on "Umbrella" for the series last summer). Let’s give KT’s take a listen, complete with kick-ass whistle solo. KT’s reason for picking the ’80s smash couldn’t be cooler: “That song made me think it was probably cooler to be a girl than a boy because the Bangles were so cool.” Amen to that.
In fact, let’s give the original a spin, just for old time’s sake. While you really can’t beat the jangly joy of the Bangles version, KT acquits herself well with her upbeat, strummy rendition. She even seems to have worked on her Susanna Hoffs doe-eye impression.
Now, I loved the Bangles. Heck, I still do. They were — how should I put this? — awesome. And I’m not just talking about their mastery of Aqua Net. At a time when you were more likely to see a woman on MTV doing cartwheels on Jaguars than playing her own instrument, the Bangles were rocking out. They still are. Man, what is it about girls with guitars?

Haha..just watched this Ululin, it's a classic. LOVING German pop. Take a look at this... 'My Hands Are Bananas' it's a classic vid apparently made by some American students who had to make a European video..."Wie are za monkees, bevare zi milky pirate"..maybe one needs to smoke something to completely appreciate this :-)

well, it's a german band and they're very famous here. The album you have is from the late 80s I think and (I've just looked it up) there's "Westerland" on it and several other classics. If you're ever on a party in Germany (any party), you will find at least one of those played...

I will say that I would have been even more impressed if it wasn't just KT Tunstall by herself ... part of what makes the Bangles aptly "awesome" is that there are 4 of them. Wouldn't it have been even cooler if KT was up there with 3 other female rockers, or if they had gotten a band like Sleater-Kinney?

Girls and guitars - hell yes, but I LOVE KT when she wears her motorcycle boots too!!! She totally rocks and in all the interviews, stories etc she seems really normal and down to earth. I love "famous" people who are also incredibly talented, sexy and can take the piss out of themselves. Brill, as we Brits would say....
