Kate Walsh owes Ellen a beer

It’s nice to see that Ellen DeGeneres has finally learned how to throw her weight around Hollywood. In an interview taped earlier this week and airing today on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Grey’s Anatomy doc Kate Walsh told Ellen that she still wasn’t sure if her spin-off Private Practice was getting picked up for the fall season. With that, the Great Panted One sprang into action. I guess after hosting the Oscars and winning 6 zillion Daytime Emmy Awards (seriously, does she need a warehouse to house them all?), Ellen was feeling out her clout.

To take Kate off pins and needles, she called ABC Entertainment President Steve McPherson live on air to get the scoop. His bemused but game response: "I think she is in pretty good shape." Sure, the spin-off was all but a fait accompli, but it’s always nice to get official confirmation. Plus, how cute is Kate giggling like a teenager and then awkwardly telling her boss, "I just wanted to say have a great afternoon"? Wow, Ellen, can you call my boss and tell him that I need a raise? And two extra weeks' vacation? And a pony? Come on, let’s really take that clout out for a test drive.

    Ellen is so awesome. I love how she just randomly pulls hilarious, yet fun stuff like this completely out of her bum.

    Ellen's right, she does look fabulous.

    And yeah, so cute, all that giggling.

    I wonder what that man must have thought, being ambushed like that, but seriously, no matter how good or bad the pilot was, he'd be mad not to give that woman her own show right now. She is Hot.

    agreed - i always get dogged on by my roommate for talking about how attractive that woman is (she thinks she looks like a man?????). I'm for one excited about this - i really hope they do confirm it's been picked up more clearly than the response this guy gave. That show had an amazing cast, how could it be bad? And we get more Kate so that is ALWAYS a wonderful thing (that giggling was just soooo cute)

    I wish Elen could call the publishing company that is holding my novel and ask them when are they giving me an answer! I guess the world and life would be much better if we all just put a little bit on our part to help others... don't you think?

    Kate Walsh is really cute, she has a lovely smile, but i'll miss her in Grey's Anatomy!She is/was among the best (if not the best) of the show by far..

    Oh, I wish this clip included the shot of Portia looking over the shoulder of the producer/director looking up the phone number. She looked divine. :)

    I think that is what Ellen is going to announce on her Mother's day show. She's been hinting a lot on the show, and one time when she was on Letterman, she said she wouldn't rule out them having kids.

    We'll hear if I am right on May 11. :-)

    i consider it a personal favor to me, and anyone else who adores kate walsh and thoroughly enjoys her time staring at such stunning eyecandy on television every week. :)

    I could not agree more with all of you. I always rant about Kate and my friends don't understand why. But this clip says it all. She is drop dead gorgeous and her giggling just makes her irresistable. Those slightly droppy eyes and square jaw are the few reasons why i adore her so much!!!

    Thanks Ellen! I was hoping to hear about the spin-off and that was a cool way to find out.
