Jorja Fox leaves "CSI" on her terms

Sara Sidle has left the building. And she has left of her own free will. But don’t cry too much into your Petri dishes, forensics fans: She may be back to visit every now and then. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, veteran CSI cast member Jorja Fox said leaving the series was her decision, one that had nothing to do with money, and that she might return for guest spots later down the road.

“It’s my call — and a very, very difficult one, something I’ve been thinking about for a long, long time. It's one of the hardest decisions I've made in my life. It has nothing to do with my contract, nothing to do with money. ... It could be the stupidest thing I've ever done in my life. Only time will tell. ... There are so many things I want to do! Some are personal. Some are professional. And I really need to do some of them before I get too old.”

Fans have been atwitter about Jorja’s possible exit since last season’s cliffhanger finale saw her character kidnapped and pinned under a car by the Miniature Killer. Of course she survived, only to dash her fans' hopes by announcing she would leave the show later this season. Her final episode (episode eight of season eight ... oh, the symmetry) will air in mid-November.

Now, I'm a longtime fan of the show. The cast’s simple chemistry and geeky forensics had me hooked from the start. But Jorja’s departure means the departure of my favorite CSI. Well, at least I still have Sofia (Louise Lombard) and Catherine (Marg Helgenberger).

Jorja said Sara’s final episode, which has already been filmed, was emotional and exhausting.

“It required me to go deeper than I ever have. It was an emotional episode for everyone, certainly for me. I've been exhausted since before the premiere, in such an odd way. There has been an incredible outpouring of support from my fans — and confusion. Because I think a lot of the fans believe this is a contractual issue and has something to do with money.”

But Sara may not have gathered her last piece of evidence after all. Jorja left the door decidedly open to guest starring. And CSI executive producer Carol Mendelsohn was even more emphatic about Sara’s return in an interview with TV Guide: “Yes. You can count on it ... the fans will not have seen the last of Sara Sidle. Nor will Grissom.”

Yay! Well, I could do without the Grissom stuff. Speaking of Gil, tonight’s episode promises the big proposal. Mendelsohn hinted that it would have something to do with the bees from last week’s episode. After seeing this picture, I think it’s bound to go something like this: “You’re just a bee charmer, Sara Sidle. That’s what you are, a bee charmer.”

Sara’s departure leaves fans to contend with new female CSI Ronnie Lake (Jessica Lucas). Sadly, she didn’t exactly make a great first impression in her debut last week. Producers haven’t said whether Jessica is an official replacement for Jorja, or how many episodes she’ll star in. But considering the circumstances, you can’t help but draw comparisons between the two. And, much like Sara’s annoyed reaction to the newbie, I keep thinking, “Who let this teenager in the lab?” Seriously, I’m going to have to see some I.D., young lady.

As for Jorja and her future plans, the 39-year-old actress wouldn’t give specifics, but it sounds like travel is on the agenda.

“I might buy a ticket for around the world. It's also summer in the Southern Hemisphere, so I might take a surf trip. I forgot to have kids! And there are several projects of my own that I'm excited about.”

I wish Jorja well on her future adventures. May they be filled with considerably fewer flesh-eating maggots and gaping head wounds. And, if you ever miss the bugs and blood, you know where to go to get your fix. We’ll be waiting.

long live sara sidle

I am a tv obsessive. And as far as TV obsessions go, CSI took my virginity. I still love it but i dont think ill be able to watch it the same way once sara leaves. So i see this as an end to an era. CSI won't be the same. Goodbye Sara, we will miss you....

(but could we please see more sophia now- but in a NO WAY A LOVE INTEREST FOR GRISSOM role???)

Thank you.

this is sad but good all at

this is sad but good all at the same time. jorja is the one reason i keep tuning in every week. but im happy that it all happened on her own terms. I wish her the best of luck. i now have to keep watching after she leaves to see if she is guest staring.

At least there's still Sofia Curtis :)

Sara Sidle is my favourite tv character ever. Ever. Thanks to Jorja Fox for being such a brilliant actress and bringing Sara alive for all of us.

I don't think I'll be watching this show as much once Jorja leaves, but at least there's still the occasional Louise Lombard treat (somebody... please hear me and make Sofia Curtis gay).

And yes, I want to see some I.D. That girl is barely out of high school. But I do like the name Ronnie. A lot.

Sofia Curtis

is gay. In my mind, at least :-p. Come on, with that walk of hers she couldn't not be gay :-).

Apart from that, I'm glad Sara is gone, I really couldn't stomach the whole Grissom thing anymore. Though the spoilers I've read suggest nothing good, I mean, Sara Sidle is so obviously gay, the whole GSR thing was way too fabricated and unreal, but when I read the spoilers today I got physically sick. I won't say anymore, suffice it to say that they might make her even more straight :-(.

Hell yeah...

then there's the toothpick...

Yes, the walk. But maybe

Yes, the walk. But maybe she's just a football (soccer) player. Oh wait..

sigh

I'm sad that she's leaving - but I'm glad it's on her terms. It's a good time to go, I think - the latest season hasn't impressed me much. I'm partial to the older stuff. Nice to know that her character will be back again, if only briefly.

My oh my

These tidbits have been flying around for a while now and it is indeed very sad to see her go.

I for one will not be an 'occasional' viewer as I've heard so many others will be. I started watching for the stories. Yes Jorja's my favorite. But her leaving will not take me away from the show.

I find it weird that people will not watch as much, or not at all because a character leaves (unless that was the main reason to start in the first place).

Aww . . .

That's too bad for CSI. Jorja Fox has been a good asset for them, helping to secure the coveted 18-24 demographic.

The show has made a surprising amount of turn-around, coming back from some disappointing episodes which were best recognized as fairly artistic and melancholy music videos. Its clear to me now that CSI is going to walk the walk of ER, that is, instead of banking solely on their actors, they are actually trying to tell stories which don't necessarily depend on trotting out their hot eye candy.

*sigh* That may mean less Sophia in the end. And less Margot. *sigh*

She's hot.

I too am sick of her with Grissom.  She seems more likely to hook up with a hot chick CSI then him.  Maybe that's just because I imagine it the entire time she's on screen, but she's so HOT.  At this point, I feel no need to pay attention to anything else since she's leaving.  I'm just going to soak up her hottness..........

I hope she has an awesome time fulfilling her life with good stuff....

I can't even focus.

Sad and glad at the same time

I'm sad to see her go mostly because I tune in to get my Jorja fix. But I'm also glad because this whole Sara/Grissom thing is really turning into a gag fest. I mean cmon, they have ZERO chemistry. I might tune in every once in a while when Sara leaves if the story gets my interest but I think I'll just stick to grey's anatomy for now on.

*slight possible vague spoiler*

I've heard a few things about how Sara leaves & without actually spoiling it entirely...let's just say if what I've read is true then all those who dislike the Grissom/Sara thing will be very unhappy! I'm happy cos I love GSR! ;)

I'm one of those geeks who

I'm one of those geeks who started watching cause Jorja was in it and I don't really see myself staying up til 5 a.m. just to catch the latest episode after she leaves. I'll of course stay up the whole night if Sara's ever back in an episode.

A truly perfect way of pleasing Jorja-fans would be for Sara to ride off into the sunset with Sofia Curtis! They both walk the walk. But I have to like the GSR (even though it's as hot as a polarbear eating ice-cubes in a snowstorm) cause it has lead to Jorja getting more attention. Yay!

"I forgot to have kids!" Cracked me up that did. ..coming from a girl with "commitment issues".

My answer to the proposal.....

First time I heard it... "Oh, NO! Hell NO!!! Sarah and Grissom makes my skin crawl.
Athlete33's picture

grr

I can't believe that...Sara was the reason I got into the show. Oh well, I'm just glad shes leaving on her own terms and not being fired cause that would suck. I'll keep watching the show though...I came for Sara but I stayed for the stories.

And has anyone else noticed the lack of Sofia this season? After the first episode, its like she went poof or something....

Sad to See Her Go

Sara has been my favorite CSI character since the beginning.  I wish Jorja wasn't leaving the show.  I just won't be the same without her.  I wish Jorja all the luck with whatever she decides to do in the future.

Oh, and I have to say, I'm a GSR fan.  There, I said it.  I've been a GSR shipper since the beginning.

I really do hope to at least see Sara more even after she leaves.  The day episode 8 airs is gonna be a sad day for me.  Only one more month to go.  How sad.

I'm gonna miss Sara and Jorja on Thursday nights.

Louise Lombard

My g/f used to sit next to Louise Lombard in lectures when they were both studying English at Cambridge University, here in the UK.  Brains and looks, a winning combination, as long as she doesn't go off with Grissom.  Shame Jorja's going, I love her geeky ways, but will still watch as long as Louise and Marg stay put :-)

Sad to see Jorja go...

The main reason I have been watching CSI since the beginning is because of Jorja Fox!  Although I am likely to continue to watch CSI here and there, it will no longer be appointment TV for me-if I miss an episode I won't have to worry about it.

To all of those who are thankful that Sofia Curtis will still be on the show, I have heard that the actress who plays Sofia, Louise Lombard is also exiting the show.  I don't know with 100% certainty if this is accurate or not, but I do recall reading this somewhere.

I do wish Jorja all the very best in her future endeavors.
