I want to believe in the new "X-Files" trailerI want to believe … in the new X-Files movie. As a fan since the early '90s (Hey, remember those? Good times.), I watched nearly religiously until 1998 when something funny happened. I went to see The X-Files movies. While I liked the film, it was my jump-the-shark moment. Afterward, I felt like all the twists and turns in its convoluted conspiracy were too much come-on, not enough pay-off. So now, with the new The X-Files: I Want to Believe opening July 25, I'm not sure whether that old paranormal magic will work on me again. Can Scully and Mulder make me believe, one last time?
I wasn't sure. And then I saw the trailer today. (If you don't like squinting, watch it on this website and click on "View High Res.")
What's good? The creepiness. The vagueness. The Scully-Mulderness. What's not so good? The creepiness. The vagueness. The Scully-Mulderness. Let's take them one at a time. The creepiness. I love that the sequel's much-guarded plot is a stand-alone monster-of-the-week type story instead of part of the series' larger mythology arc. But why do the brief glimpses we see remind me of every other horror movie where a young woman is being held captive by a psycho killer? I
The vagueness. Of course it's vague. This is The X-Files. It's all vague and darkly lit and just short of confusing. That's what we love/hate about the series. Go with it.
The Scully-Mulderness. We want them to get together; we don't want them to get together. It's one of this generation's great debates, ranking just below "Paper or plastic?" and "Chicken or egg?"
Tantalizing us even further are two viral video shorts (really short, like 10 seconds each) of Scully and Mulder talking about what they miss about each other. If the clips are any indication, the film will treat their re-teaming as a reunion. They also play up the couple angle.

This X- files Trailer
wheels in interest from the viewers. Did I just see a Hip-Hop artist in the clip? I certainly did. I don't remember his name for the life of me. Someone tell me. It's on the tip of my tongue.
Besides that, it looks like this X-files will be better than the first. I cross my fingers. As far as viral clips, probably are and made by humans not by other beings. Truth will be what you believe to be.I think this thought will hold true for Mulder than Scully. As far as eveidence of this truth goes, it will probably still be perceived as the unknown. That's my guess.
Peace!
It's Xzibit
and I'm extremely excited about the movie - even more so now that I've seen the trailer. And I loved the Scully-clip. I think I'd suffer through anything just to watch Anderson reprise that part, but this really does look good to me. Plus it has the added bonus of being a mow instead of a mythology story.
If nothing else this will be one fun trip down the memory lane.
That's who it is
Nice!
loved the show! grew up watching it just to scare my lil'brother
can't wait to see the movie
~My Kite String~
OH YEAH BABY! Count me in
OH YEAH BABY!
Count me in :D I was hook-line-and-sinker from the minute they announced a new X-Files movie. Honestly, I don't care if it's the worst movie ever or even worse than some of the worst X-Files episodes ever since it's still better than most of what's out there, at least for me. So, you know, whatever. COME ON! It's Mulder and Scully. I'm there, with bells on.
I was there in 1993 when the X-Files premiered on telly ... and I watched the pilot about 10 times before another episode came and then I watched the pilot and the first episode 10 times until another one came... and so on and so forth. This trailer? Got me so excited for the movie. I can't wait.
Good times!
X-Files is returning and NKOTB is planning a comeback. Dude, it's my childhood all over again ;)
Ok so I never watched the
LOVE
I grew up on The X-Files, and loved it unconditionally all the way to the bitter end. What I didn't like about Season 8, Reyes completely turned around for me when she showed up, which made me love Season 9 a whole lot when everyone else didn't. I did grow out of Mulder/Scully, also when Reyes came along and Scully/Reyes got *so* much more interesting, but still Love. Unconditional. And I see no reason that those feelings will have changed by the time the movie arrives. I'll probably pick it apart, and dislike a number of things about it, nonetheleast will be the Mulder-and-Scully stuff, but even that I will probably still love, deep down.
The viral clips are interesting (he misses the way she says his name? Dude. You've got the most brilliant doctor-slash-FBI-agent in the world dropping everything to go work with you, and all you can think about is the way she says your name... although I suppose it's not much different than me having missed her red hair), I'm not quite sure how I feel about them. I'll have to watch them several more times (each) and figure that out.
I want to believe this will kick ass.
I'm so excited. Can't wait for this film to come out. I also love the viral marketing, I loved it with Cloverfield, and other films that are doing it now. I hope they do more with the viral stuff cause right now that is what's getting alot of attention with new films.

I Do Believe...
in Chris Carter and "The X-Files". I love the show, and the first movie was pretty good. Can't wait to see where the darkly lit vagueness of it all goes! And yes, Scully and Mulder do belong together. Who else could possibly understand them?
I can't believe
Huh?
fantasy hip hop artist.
man, that xzibit gets around. who needs gillian anderson when i can have him in a cop uniform??
Feels like i've been run over in traffic...
what you just said...
should be penalised with life imprisionment.... ahahaahah!!! XD
who needs Gillian Anderson???? I NEED GILLIAN ANDERSON!!!!!
shame on you! ;-)

DO I BELEIVE?
This trailer reminded me of Cher's "Walking in Memphis":
He said "Tell me are you a christian child?"
and I said "MAN I AM TONIGHT!!!!!"
And I agree with gooby, I don't care if this is the worst film ever... IT'S THE X FILES YOU PEOPLE!!!! It can be a piece of shit... but IT IS MY SHIT!!! XD
I am such a shipper I think Mulder and Scully are the only straight couple I actually care for... (well, that's not actually true ahahahaha).
* I am the Cinnamon Spider *
speaking of 'Walking in Memphis'
That totally made me wanna see the episode 'Post Modern Prometheus' where they took that deformed guy to see Cher sing that song and they were dancing.. Oooh i had ALL the x-files calenders and used to take them apart and put the pics up in my room. w00t!!
I got a dick like a mule...with a big dick.
I must confess....
Every time I see that last scene I cry like a beaten up bitch!!! Well, I start to cry before that but when "Cher" takes him on stage I need to stop because the tears won't let me see Mulder and Scully dancing!!!
Then when I settle down I watch them dance and cry again!!! Aahahahaaha!!! XD
Yup I'm pathetic.

They're BAAAAACK!!

Talk about excited! I used to put off going anywhere or doing anything on sundays when x-files was on! I wouldn't even answer the phone! NKOTB yeah i remember them the best of the best is back from my childhod and i can't wait! I'll be there when the movie comes out!
Hell YES
I'm with the crowd who doesn't care if the movie sucks. I'm such a fangirl when it comes to the x files. Plot? What plot? Who cares? I'm just excited we're actually getting a movie. And OMFG MSR 4EVA!!1. yeah, see? fangirl. I'm embarassing myself.
I grew up with the XFiles. And the early days of interweb fandoms...
and all the groundbreaking batshit that came with it. Good times.OMFGOMFGOMFGOMFGOMFGOFMGOFMG
I'm so goddamn excited..So i used to be a MAJOR shipper i mean i read all the fanfic..Gossamer had awesome fanfic and i read all kinds of slash, but just. ugh. somehow i do NOT want them to hook up. Like i think i'll be really grossed out.
And Scully has long hair and that = disturbing. I don't know what to think. I'm resistant to change.
BUt i'm SO exCITED!
I got a dick like a mule...with a big dick.
Scully had
long hair in the Pilot, so it's not that much of a change (or at least not something we've never seen before).
I'm usually all about the slash and I really enjoyed the Scully/Reyes subtext, but as soon as Mulder enters the picture my old MSR shipper-heart wins over. I guess that's because of all the years spent obsessing about them (plus I must confess I really get a kick out of throwing a little mental 'we told you so' in the general direction of the noromos).
Slash
I stopped watching after season 7 and only came back for the finale, so I missed the whole Scully/Reyes thing. Was it any good? Worth going back for?
I did go through a Scully/Marita Covarrubias phase though. HOT
(plus I must confess I really get a kick out of throwing a little mental 'we told you so' in the general direction of the noromos)
Mmmmm validation :D
...even though I was a finishipper back in the day and siding with the NoRomos more often than not. But still. The inner deeply closeted shipper rejoices over seeing them together now. Strange. :D
My Take
On the trailer - It doesn't seem to just be a standard girl-in-peril plot. It seems to be a psychic guy (Billy Connolly) who can sense that there is a standard girl-in-peril... somewhere. Or rather, maybe more than one girl, as there seem to be a couple of them: one in a cage, one frozen, one in a tub of water possibly meeting the business end of something pointy (I don't imagine they are all the same woman). Seems like a stand alone, but not especially a "monster" of the week...
Regardless, I think the most troublesome thing about the movie will be sitting through two hours of Gillian Anderson with long, not-quite-red-enough hair, as I long for my "original" Scully, as I remember her. Although, I am looking forward to the eye candy that Amanda Peet will bring. (Yay, more hot girls in uniform!) Hope they get some substantial screen time together.
As for the viral video shorts, part of me resents the fact that Scully misses being rescued by Mulder (when we all know she saved his butt probably just as many times). I'll agree she enjoyed the challenge he brought her, but not the being rescued part. Scully's stronger than that. And I'm sure she doesn't miss needing to be rescued, either. Why else would she say, "And that's what scares me," when Mulder confesses that he needs her?
My take on what she said was
even if..
Even if its not all that good, it will be nice to relive my childhood for an hour and a bit, and when the theme tune started... I couldnt help from smiling :)
The trailer did nothing for me, it was a bit mellow dramatic with the "its here, its HERE! *cue drop to knees*"
but the viral shorts were a nice touch, i just tought, "oh... i missed you guys"
I'm a huge X-Phile from way
I'm a huge X-Phile from way back. Like, HUGE. Used to have pictures of them on my wall (I even had a poster of the infamous Rolling Stones cover--which if you were a fan, you know which one I'm talking about), read the fanfic and recorded every episode totally obsessively. Thanksgiving for me in the 90s had less to do with turkey and more to do with the X Files Thanksgiving marathons F/X used to have.
So yeah, I will totally be there opening weekend, all fangirl-y and squealing, even if I know there's a good possibility it'll be a letdown. All I care about is Mulder and Scully on-screen again, with hopefully a few "Mulder, are you suggesting"s and "Scully, why can't you just BELIEVE?"s thrown in for good measure. I wonder if we'll get to find out what happened to other characters like Skinner, though?
Also, I don't think those viral videos are clips from the movie, guys. I'm pretty sure they're just promo shots the actors did to get themselves (and everyone else) back in character. Chris Carter is also well-known for throwing out fake spoilers and hints. Don't forget that.

LORELAI: Your mother is God?
Dont know about another movie...
....but as long as Scully and Moulder are around with Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny with Chris Carter it's a go see.
With Soundtrack!
I have no choice but to see
David/Gillian
Like many of you said, I don't 'care' if the movie sucked, it's THE X-FILES!!!
And the first movie was the reason I became fan of the X-Files, I rented it once and the rest is history.
I began watching the x-files when I was like 12/13 years-old (I'm 19 now), not on tv, I had to buy all the dvd-boxes because well they didn't diffuse it on the tv anymore. Each dvd-box was, back then, €89 that is $137,71. They were my birthday/christmas gifts or it was where all my money was spend on.
The X-files is a part of my yough, it was the show that hooked me with the fanfiction-fandome.
I was a huge X-Phile and a shipper. Mulder/Scully are probably the only straight couple I cared about, well with Booth/Bones.
Can't wait to see it.
And Rachg82, I do remember that Rolling Stone Cover, man that was daring. I've often wondered if David and Gillian hadn't a thing together!!!
Yup, yup, yup....agreed.
Yup, yup, yup....agreed. I don't care if it's rubbish I will be seeing this one without a doubt. The first one wasn't amazing but the nostalgia alone will make this one worth watching. Aside from my teacher in first year of grammar (ah to be 12 and in love) Scully was my hugest crush EVER....FACT! I made my mum buy me mens mag FHM when I was 13 because Gillian did a sexy photoshoot in her undies. I couldn't reach the shelf the mag was on so my mum had to get it for me, she was mucho embarrassed as she was a little weirded out by my girl crushes back then. Hey, I looked about 8 at that time so she didn't appreciate buying me a mens mag.
I had every poster, book (official or otherwise) x-files comic, folders full of cuttings from newspapers/mags, all episodes/interviews, etc taped. I was completely obsessed, my room was a shrine to X-Files and in particular the divine Scully. After X-files I wasn't too keen on Gillians other characters but I think she is an amazing actress...anyone seen The House of Mirth?? Also, if you're a fan of Miss Jolie (should I say Mrs Pitt) her and Gillian star in Playing by Heart, one of my all time favourite movies with an amazing cast...check it out!
So anyway, I've still got a box of pristine books/comics/audio books, etc and that cover of FHM from 15 years ago (bound in plastic)...I don't know if I'll ever let it go....maybe it's time I got it framed for posterity...and ogling!! Man she was smokin' hot!
FHM
YES. I asked my mom to buy me that mag too. I was about... 12 at the time? I'm sure it's back home somewhere with all the x files stuff.
I grew up with semi-naked pics of Gillian Anderson on my walls and my mom was *still* surprised when I came out. Heh. Denial, gotta love it.
The Truth is...
I am sooo getting psyched by the return of Moose and Squirrel!!!
Yowza!
yay!
Being an Aussie is finally
Being an Aussie is finally paying off! The movie is released here a day earlier. I'm a huge X Files addict I can say regardless of whether it sucks or not I will be there on opening night I've even been working on rewatching all 9 seasons again before it's released. In doing so I've also realised I've been gay a loooong time before I realised as proven by my Scully obsession.
