Helena Bonham Carter is getting ready to terminate the box office

Helena Bonham Carter is an unquestionably talented actress. No one has mastered the Victorian/Gothic/romantic/possibly-deranged vibe better than her. But there are still some movies I could never, ever imagine her in. And near the top of that list has to be any of the Terminator films. Does this woman look like a robot to you?

News came earlier this week that Helena is in talks to appear in the fourth installment of the machines vs. humans apocalyptic action series, Terminator Salvation. The restarted franchise will star Christian Bale (yes, Batman) as a grown-up John Connor as he leads the human rebellion against the cyborgs post nuclear holocaust. The Hollywood Reporter says Helena's role would be “small but pivotal” while the Los Angeles Times reports that she could be the “lead villain.” Bryce Dallas Howard will play John's wife, Kate. The project is beings directed by McG, the same one-named-wonder behind the Charlie's Angels films and many a music video. I expect many things to go boom.

Now, we all know Helena can play bad. Her extraordinarily twisted Death Eater Bellatrix Lestrange first surfaced in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and will appear again to scare the bejesus out of small children and unsuspecting wizards in subsequent films.

But, could she be a machine? I just can't see it. Room With a View – yes. Room with a Cyborg – no.

Though, I guess I shouldn't judge too quickly. I mean, this is an actress who has successfully played a cannibalistic baker, a corpse bride and a talking chimpanzee. So an evil robot really shouldn't be a problem.

So, what do you think? Is Helena a genius casting pick? Or is a thought worse than biting into one of Mrs. Lovett's meat pies?

    I think she's such a talented actress. She's been in so many films! I still can't get my Bellatrix Lestrange image out of my head though. She was a scary scary woman in Harry Potter but she played it so well. She'd probably be a good casting pick, she's really versatile imo.

    Helena Bonham Carter is such an amazing actress.. she's one of the rare few who can play any role - like you said, from a corpse bride to a chimpanzee! whoever did the casting knew what they were doing when they picked her ;)

    DUUDE! I had no idea either!! I was like :O whoa! I do remember being weirdly attracted to that monkey woman though....is that weird? hahaha

    I think Helena can pull it off, she's extremely talented, and hope to one day be close to being as talented as her :)

    This is very intersting to hear, sometimes it i nice when someone like Helena Bonham Carter shows up and takes the whole project in a new direction.

    Helena Bonham Carter?  Christian Bale?  Bryce Dallas Howard?  That's a pretty great little cast they have going.  I might have to actually, *gasp*, watch a Terminator movie.

    is a hack.  Okay, the first Charlie's Angels was fun, but Full Throttle was a giant piece of poo.

    I'd much rather watch Lena Headly and Summer Glau on the small screen.  Gimme some strong women!

    I am psyched that there is a new terminator movie in the works, but I can't imagine any cast, regardless of talent, salvaging a McG movie.  I will probably see it anyway, though!

    Initially my reaction was the same and then I remembered he directed We Are Marshall.  That was a well made, no BS special effects, movie.  If he can control his "creative genius"it may work.

    I would definitely watch one that had HBC as a terminator robot.

    Absolutely!! She will be able to act as the cyborg.Look at her acting talents. SHe's one damn talented woman.

    But,i must say i'm agreeing with penny,i would rather have Lena Heady & Summer Glau on it=D

    Helena in T4? Thats cool! I can't wait for her in the last three Harry Potter flicks. Helena playing Hermione in Deathly Hallows should be fun. ;)

    Helena's not my usual type but geez she is hot!!!! definitley the best part of the harry potter films. ah well that's all i had to say really i'm off to go watch sweeney todd :P xxx

    The whole point of Terminators is that they don't look like robots. They're not cyborgs either, but they are androids!

    I don't know if I can handle HBC in another villainous role... that's too much excitement. Seeing her as Mrs. Lovett was hard enough for me to contain myself...

    ANY film is lucky to have her...I think she salvages it just by having the face, the voice, the talent, the energy, and the body she has. I'm sure the movie with SUCK, but I'll see it because anything she touches is magical to me.

    I have an awkwardly large crush on this woman. Posting multiple stunning pictures of her is just too much...too much.

    I love her, she was probably one of my first star crushes when I was a teen, in Room with a View.  She has awesome range, so I bet she'd be great!!! I also love Christian Bale, so the two of them in a movie together is rocking!!!!!

    I've seen all of them numerous times & have become slightly obsessed with the TSCC series, so I'm excited and can't wait

    As fas as HBC is concerned, I think as one of the few really talented women in Hollywood she can play anything and make you remember her. My take? Casting genius.

    I would go see T4 just see her act. I think that this would serve as just another challenge for her to show us how good she really is...
