We already know Helen Mirren is The Queen. Actually, she’s been a few queens, most of them named Elizabeth. But now she can add Queen of the Mashups to her long list of distinguished roles.

The U.K. paper The Times reports that some 400 Mirren mashups have been posted on various video sites this year. That makes the real-life dame a more popular tribute subject than perennial tabloid princesses Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan. According to the article, only Star Trek and Harry Potter rival her mashup dominance. I believe this proves my theory that once you rule the geeks, you rule the Internet.

Among the mashups mentioned is the fun “Notes on a Queen,” where The Queen’s Helen and Notes on a Scandal’s Judi Dench square off for Oscar gold.

Another one I found that’s good for a chuckle is “The Queen and Donkey,” combining ... well, I think it’s pretty self-explanatory.

Sadly, I could not find the kung-fu-fighting queen clip mentioned in The Times. And trust me, I looked. (Note: If you’ve found it, please post the link. I am dying to see her “hai-yah!” her way through the competition.) So, why all the mashup love for Queen Helen? A researcher from Idolator, quoted in the story, summed it up nicely.

“(Helen) is sexy, smart and fun — a role model for young American women. You can tell she probably says inappropriate things at cocktail parties and thinks anti-smoking campaigns are stupid.”

Now, if I were more technologically advanced in my geekery, I’m sure I’d be among the legions creating their own three-minute homages to “the Dirty Dame with the body beautiful.” But, as it is, I remain stubbornly wedded to the quaint mediums of the written word and non-moving picture. So instead, this is my kind of mashup.
