Guess what's back, back again. TV's back, tell a friend. To fully appreciate this post, I'd like everyone to sing the Welcome Back, Kotter theme song. All together now: “Welcome back, your dreams were your ticket out…” Hmm, too young for the Sweathogs? OK, how about Eminem's “Without Me” instead? Ready: “Guess who's back? Back again…” Look, if you're too young for that one then it's time to go back to your carpet and finish nap time, m'kay? My point -- and I just might actually have one -- is that this week it's time to officially welcome back television.
After the long winter of our discontent known as Writers Strike ‘07 (and a bit into ‘08), spring-fresh episodes of your favorite scripted shows are being served up all this month. Back Wednesday are CSI: New York and Criminal Minds. Returning Thursday are My Name Is Earl, CSI and Without a Trace. Coming Friday is Ghost Whisper. And, yes, the Earl episode is the one with Paris Hilton. But, look, Alyssa Milano will also guest star if that helps.
The rest of the happy returns this month:
Clearly, April 10 fills me with glee (30 Rock! 30 Rock! 30 Rock!). Same goes for April 14 (for Bones, I've never even heard of Rules of Engagement) and April 24 (Ugly Betty, baby). But why, TV gods, why are you making us wait all the way until April 28 to find out if Thirteen's bisexuality returns along with the writers on House?
So, which shows will you welcome back with open arms? Any you've decided to drop? And, most importantly, did you manage to finally finish any books off your “Will read eventually” stack on your nightstand? Submitted by on April 1, 2008 - 10:53am. |

Withdrawal...
I was experiencing 30 Rock withdrawal; thank heavens it will be back shortly! There really should have been some type of support group for 30 Rock (and Tina Fey) fans during its absence. I'm also looking forward to the return of my stalwart favorites CSI and Law and Order - you can never go wrong with those two bedrock programs. And I became a quick fan of Samantha Who? (and wonder why more people--MsLaughALot being a notable exception--have not jumped on board this fun, quirky little show); therefore, I'm excited for its return as well.
I can almost hear the collective sigh of millions of television viewers welcoming back the return of quality programs and saving us from the deluge of "reality" t.v.
And now I have the Welcome Back, Kotter theme song in my head. Not that I'm complaining. Hmm, I guess I just dated myself by suggesting I know the entire song. Oh well.
Patient: There's like this longing ... this pull. I mean, does that make me, you know, like, some kind of...?
Maeby: Homosexual.
Tobias: Maeby, please. She's right, though, you probably are a homosexual.Yes, so much 30 Rock
seconded.
No joke. And the last ep before the strike was amazing too.

I've been waiting for this week all last month.
I can't wait for CSI, CSI:NY, NCIS, and Reaper.
But especially CSI...I've been going through withdrawals. At least I got my Liz Vassey fix from 3Way. I love her on CSI, though. She looks sexy in that lab coat.
Mmm...Alyssa Milano. I might watch that episode of My Name is Earl just to see her.

All of my idols are dead
SVU!
I can't wait until April the 15th for Law and Order: SVU when Benson goes undercover in prison...ahhh, I'm a simple person, simple things amuse me...and Mariska is hot!
I too would like to find out if Thirteen's rumoured bisexuality is more than just a rumour on House, I'll be so bummed if it turns out to be a load of crap.
oh yeah!
tv's back!
i can't wait for bones and 30 rock.
go TINNNNNNNAAAAAAAA!
okay, i am starting to scare myself, stopping now,
Women's Murder Club
And let's not forget Women's Murder Club, which returns in its new timeslot, Tuesday April 29th at 10pm.
For those who missed out on this show the first time around, the appeal is four strong, independent women, working together to solve murders (MUCH better than other shows with "strong" female leads that I won't mention...). It doesn't hurt that the subtext between at least three of these women is fantastic.
I encourage everyone to watch it - we need as many viewers as possible over the last three episodes to ensure a second season!
Save WMC
Pushing Daisies
Not pushing up daisies yet...

Supernatural!
Welcome back tv!
Doctor Who ! This Saturday ! [I know, I know, I'm on the wrong continent]
Can't wait to see House, because the last two episodes were really great. I'm good public and Thirteen is hot.
I'm also looking forward to see Ugly Betty, because it makes me laugh, and Scrubs because I'm still hoping season 7 will get better with time. For now, I wasn't laughing as much as before.
Pushing Daises Where art thou?
I'm not a huge fan of most of the shows except for Brother's and Sisters (and that's mainly my crush on Sally Fields). I kind of strayed from Ugly Betty but I'll probably end up watching it again too. Anyone else going through Olive withdrawals besides me?
Hell yes
As sad as it is, I've been going nuts without new episodes of Bones, House and 30 Rock. I'm finally completely caught up with all the episodes of each, and despite Bones delivering a lecture on how much time she has to sift through skeletons because she doesn't watch TV, I don't feel guilty for wasting 40 minutes on an episode... probably because this Gormagon storyline is SO GOOD. OMG.
I'm willing to give out midseason Emmys based on my own categories:
Best creepy-ass cannibalistic conspiracy serial killer with a master-apprentice dynamic and a black motorcycle uniform: BONES!
Best use of Will Arnett: 30 Rock, with Will Arnett as Jack's closeted gay rival TV executive at NBC, maneuvering to marry the chairman's daughter while being hilariously unable to resist Kenneth.
Best Terrorist: No, 24 can't have this category this year, although they've had some pretty sweet terrorists in the past (Shohreh Aghdashloo, Dennis F'n Hopper.) It has to go to 30 Rock for the "Somebody To Love" episode where Liz Lemon calls Homeland Security to torture her suspicious neighbour, who turns out to be an affable "Amazing Race" wannabe, complete with audition video where he and his brother jump up and down excitably shouting "I love America! I love America!"
Best politics: I love how 30 Rock consistently insults all sides of the political spectrum, from Liz Lemon's guilt-ridden but frequently racist liberal, to C.C.'s activism on part of the children turned orange by NBC parent the Shinehardt Wig Compay, to Jack's slimy, corporate fat-cat caricature republican.
Best medical: House, no question. I don't think there's ever been a cooler and more accurate medical drama. (Accurate in terms of the medicine.) I love all the subtext between House and Wilson, too. And I'm really interested in where they go with the Thirteen storyline.
Best worst: CSI Miami... it's gone even MORE downhill this season. It's like they've realized their full potential of awfulness. They've pumped up the orange filter so high everyone looks like an oompa-loompa. David Caruso fully makes up all his own lines. The Magic Science is less realistic than ever and the exposition by the characters is even more awkward: "This spray of pixie dust emulsified in decarbonated coca-cola will create a 3-D rendition of our murder weapon. Ah! It's ready!" I love it.
Criminal Minds
Thank God!
I need my JJ/Emily fix
