Gilmore Girls set to say goodbye, though probably with more words

Last week news came that the Gilmore Girls are moving out of Stars Hollow for good. After seven seasons, the mother-daughter comedy-drama is ending its run with its finale May 15. The abrupt departure comes after negotiations between the network and stars Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel fell through.

I’ll confess, I haven’t watched the series for the last couple of seasons. When Buffy the Vampire Slayer made the jump to UPN, the two shows conflicted, and the girl with the pointy stick won out over the girls with the rat-a-tat-tat pop culture references. After Buffy ended, I thought I’d go back and reacquaint myself with the gals, but time had passed and so it goes.

In a taped segment for The Ellen DeGeneres Show (set to air Tuesday), Lauren seemed the opposite of broken up about the cancellation. In fact, she toasted the news by throwing back a mojito with Ellen.

"It was a conversation that was going on for a long time and it’s not a surprise. I think it’s a really a good thing.... It’s the best thing for the show and I feel really good about it."

As much as I enjoyed Lorelai and Rory’s quips-ahoy chatter and the quirky-cute denizens of Stars Hollow, it’s probably time for the Gilmore women (after seven years, they deserve an upgrade) to call it a day. Still, I wish they’d been able to write a proper series finale instead of a standard season ender for the show’s swan song.

Since both Lauren and Alexis have made the jump to film, I’m sure we haven’t seen the last of the ladies. Next up for Lauren is this summer’s Evan Almighty with Steve Carell. Coming up for Alexis is The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants sequel with America Ferrera. And, of course, we’ll always have those Gilmorisms.

Hotness She Wrote

As much as I enjoy seeing Lauren Graham on a weekly basis, I'm not too upset that GG is ending this season. It's had a good long run.

mixed feelings

I'm sad to see the show end...but I agree that it's time. The writing of the past season has made it almost painful to watch.

But, I will greatly miss Lauren Graham and Liza Weil...and will have to resign myself to the fact that Paris and Rory will not actually be running away together during the show.

But I'll always have the memories

Yes I agree, it is time, it lost so much when the Pallendino's left, the show just couldn't recover. I'm almost having to force myself to watch them, telling myself that it's the last episodes and that I should watch them.  How it one E!'s SOS poll is beyond me.  It's quality over quantity.

I to will miss Lauren Graham and Liza Weil.  Liza never got enough credit IMO, as she steals almost every scene she's in.  Hopefully she will continue to find work, as I always hated that she would only ever appear in 13 episodes a season.  She's so much more enjoyable than watching Rory and Logan (gag)

Rory and Paris?

I haven't watched the show since forever -- have those two gotten married? If not, they should. Totally made for each other, and I have a ton of fanfiction to prove it. :)
