Get curious about "Benjamin Button"I’m not usually wowed by movie trailers. To be honest, most of them are pretty uninspired. They give a little (and often too much) of the plot away, throw in some punches and/or punchlines and are soon forgotten. But, while procrastinating working the other day, I stumbled upon something very curious. It was, in fact, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
The new fable of a film stars Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett. It is based on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s short story by the same name about a man who ages backwards. Fascinating idea, fascinating trailer. But, as always, don’t take my word for it. [See the trailer in hi-def here.] First of all, doesn’t that seem remarkably like a Tim Burton movie? But the movie is actually helmed by David Fincher, the man behind Se7en, Fight Club, Panic Room and Zodiac. Burton-esque overtones (and score) aside, Fincher has a real style of his own and he has chosen films that expose the dark underbelly of humankind’s propensity for violence. While we see a few graphic images of World War I in the trailer, the violence Fincher seems to be exploring in Benjamin Button is more of the emotional kind. Said Fincher of the project: “It’s dark, it’s romantic, and it also deals with mortality in a pretty unflattering way. The guy is born in 1919 - with the film itself beginning in World War I, traveling around the world and carrying on all the way through to the year 2000.” Pitt plays Benjamin, who is born at age 80. He meets and eventually falls in love with Blanchett’s character, Daisy. Seeing their characters’ progressions in the trailer alone is interesting.
First forwards with Daisy.
Then backwards with Benjamin.
Cool, huh? Also cool is the stellar cast. Beside Pitt and Blanchett, Benjamin Button boasts a bevy of great actresses. They include Tilda Swinton, Julia Ormond and Taraji P. Henson. And playing young Daisy is Elle Fanning, Dakota’s little sister.
What I like about the trailer, aside from the dark fairytale tone and gorgeous period set pieces, is that it doesn’t give too much away. Yes, we know this man ages backward. Yes we know he falls for this woman. And in between that, well, that’s all the living yet to come – forwards or backwards.
So, are you as intrigued by this trailer as I am? I don’t know about you, but it makes me feel like an impatient kid again who keeps asking, “Is it Christmas yet?” Submitted by on June 20, 2008 - 11:00am. |

Looks interesting
Ah. I've been extremely pumped to see this movie since I saw the trailer before Iron Man. It looks so different! And the best part, as you pointed out, is that not much is known about the actual story.
Come when ever you're ready, Christmas.
WOW!
I guess we'll get it around
I guess we'll get it around Christmas, but it's hard to be sure as the UK release date is TBA. Australia get it a week after the US though, so I would imagine we'll be about the same. Most other countries get it the first/second week of Jan, so I don't think there'll be that long a wait in the UK. I feel sorry for Japan though - they have a release date of April 2009...
I'm dying to see this film - I've been waiting for it at least 6 months. I remember it being mentioned in an interview with Brad Pitt when The Assassination of Jesse James was about to be released last year!
Interesting
I saw this trailer at Iron Man I think it was, it looks pretty interesting. I don't know if I'd go see it in theatres even though there's major Cate Blanchett, I'll probably end up renting it. F. Scott Fitzgerald is amazing though, so that just might win me over.

marching band= Something to actually be proud of, since we work harder than the football team, win more awards, and we have more fun.
This Intrigues Me
I saw the trailer a few weeks ago and decided that I wanted to see it. It's such an intriguing plot. And I do like all the actors. I hope it lives up to the trailer.
Peace, Joy and Love
amazing images
This seems like one of those movies where even if the plot is a little weak the images alone will keep you in your seat. Much like "Across the Universe" was for me.
Also- i heart Tilda Swinton!

Not to mention, the beautiful scenery of New Orleans. I love my hometown.

Very interesting...and is it Christmas yet?!!??
Awww...I can't wait that long...I should definitely keep a list of up and coming movies to watch...but this one has to be pushed way down the list until it's out in future...
But I think I'll be waiting to watch because of the storyline itself and ofcourse Cate Blanchett and Tilda Swinton :)
