Does the Cher as Catwoman rumor have nine lives?

Some casting rumors make me excited; some casting rumors make me perplexed. But it's that rare casting rumor that makes me excitedly perplexed. Cher as Catwoman? Really? Now, this is just a rumor and only a rumor. But still, Cher as Catwoman? How both incredibly weird and incredibly awesome would that be? It's so crazy I can almost see it now.

Of course, Cher may not want to invest in a scratching post just yet. The U.K.'s Telegraph broke the news based on an unnamed studio executive claiming that Batman director Christopher Nolan thinks Cher would be purr-fect for the role. The source also claims that the director wants Cher to play Catwoman as a “vamp in her twilight years.” Interesting concept, but I pity the fool who has to tell the 62-year-old Cher she that she is in her “twilight years.” I think Cher and her wigs might have a thing or two to say about that.

The casting rumors also include Johnny Depp being picked to play the Riddler. But since Nolan hasn't even signed on yet to direct the third film, it's hard to take any casting news too seriously. Heck, just last month a rumor made the rounds that Angelina Jolie had inquired about playing the role of Catwoman. It's enough to drive a gal batty, I say.

Still, I'm rather intrigued by the idea of an older Catwoman. Young and sexy has been done and done well (hello, Julie Newmar; nice to see you, Eartha Kitt; sit a little closer, Michelle Pfeiffer; not so fast, Halle Berry).

But older and wiser hasn't been put to screen yet. Heck, I could even see Cher in the role. I mean, we know she already loves putting on costumes. Why not a tail and a bullwhip, too?

So, who is your favorite Catwoman? And is Cher a crazy pick, or as crazy like a fox cat?

Kewl!

Kewl! First comment and first post!  Cher as an older Catwoman...it's marketable.  But isn't the new Batman franchise all about Batman's earlier, younger days?  I don't think an old Catwoman would fall into the concept.  Angelina, definitely!  I can see Eva Mendes or Kerry Washington, too.

Ciao!

Ooo...

Eva Mendes! Yes, please.

Just thought...

And I may be grappling at the "I want a queer woman in every movie" hooks, but how 'bout Kristanna Loken? I guess she's not anywhere near her twilight years, but she's definitely bathing in her Hot as all Hell years, and that's good enough for me!

Kristanna Loken

So I did the famous google search on her, i'm like why does that name sound familar, and i realized who she was, she is ridonclious hot and from the L word is where i remember her from.. i would perfer her over cher mostly because i dont like her and my partner loves her, but back to the point where it would be interesting to have a younger cat woman, in the next series.

"Older" Superheroes

I'm not overly familiar with the superhero movie genre, but has an 'older' character been done before at all? (I'm sure it must, but nothing's coming to mind.) Along with the sheer entertainment value of Cher as Catwoman, the 'twilight years' angle itself could be really interesting.

Well, I can't say I'd

Well, I can't say I'd despise Cher as Catwoman... But Angelina Jolie? That'd be awesome.

I just hope the outfit is more Julie Newmar than it is Halle Berry. The appeal of Catwoman is the tight outfit... Not a lack of outfit.

On the other hand, I'm kinda fussy since I have a crush on Catwoman and was named after her. Lol.

Oh Lord...

Pfeiffer as Catwoman, i have to admit it was like my porn as a child...that woman made a neuron burst in my head with every somersault.

and Cher as Catwoman, why are they trying so hard to kill my fantasy?!!

It would be crazy cool -

I heard Larry Flick on Sirius OutQ radio taking about this today. His take on it is that the director, Christopher Nolan, is so brilliant at extracting amazing performances, that Cher would be a knockout warped older character. I did not get to hear the entire commentary, but I think I get what he means.

If I got my choice of who would make me meow at the screen, it would be Sarah Shahi. Oh pet my kitty!

I have to admit...

I love CHER!  I've saw Cher's "Farewell Tour" 4 times.  I would absolutely love to see her play Catwoman.  But if it can't be Cher, I think Portia De Rossi would be a good choice!

Cher

Initially I thought that this was all crazy talk. But then I read the part about 'aging vamp' and I thought, cool, an older Catwoman! Who would be better than Cher? Nobody, that's who. She's got the whole feline movement and slinky costume thing down pat, and then some - especially for someone almost as old as my mom (she was a child bride who spit out children in quick succession like a Pez Dispenser on Dexatrim and Ny Quil; my mom, not Cher).

Being a die hard Cher fan since I was four...

I have four words I'd like to say about these rumors...

 THAT. WOULD. BE. EPIC.

But, if they turn out to be untrue. What do you all think about casting Miss Jordana Brewster as Catwoman? It may just be my wanting her to be in every single movie in existence, but she would look great in the costume... >:)

lmcadams's picture

Please. OH. PLEASE.

Please. Cher. Please! I would be so utterly thrilled it would be uncontrollable. I love Cher so much! I've been listening to her music and watching her movies since I was born. While Angelina would be hott.... Cher would be BRILLIANT!

Dissent

Don't get me wrong.  I don't have any Cher-hate...but as a comic fan first and foremost, I think Catwoman's age should be comparable to what Bruce Wayne's is.  That's how it is in the source material and, ideally, that's how I'd like to see it played out on the big screen.  Having said that, how about Rosario Dawson as Selina Kyle?  Otherwise, we're in...like...a tangent universe.  An elseworlds story. Snort.  Excuse me whilst I bag and board my comic books.

best. idea. ever.

"Having said that, how about Rosario Dawson"

who the hell can I call for that!

cher rules

She's been my fave solo female singer since i was about 8, and while i'm not totally sure she'd b my first choice to play catwoman...if pfeiffer didnt want to do it again then id pick emily blunt. But since this twilight catwoman rumour thing id have to say cher would be purr-fect. She could sing the theme song as well :) Now all they need is ellen page as a female Robin!!

Don't mess with my weave giiirrrrllll :)

Totally agree with Kate...

Unless Nolan's going to jump into the 'declining Batman' years, Cher (despite her ability to successfully pass for mutton dressed as lamb) would be oh so wrong for the part. But then, neither Katie Holmes nor Maggie Gyllenhal managed to play a decent Rachel Dawes. Makes you long for the days of Michelle Pfeiffer and decent roles for women in Batman movies. *sigh*

Michelle

Michelle Pfeiffer is my all time favourite Catwoman. She's the reason why Batman Returns is my favourite Batman film of all time. :D She was HAWT! (And still is, btw)

I actually wouldn't mind Cher as Catwoman. I think it would be an interesting choice. I'm not sure I'd want any "tension" between her and the Bat though, but I think she could be pretty cool. Allthough, Catwoman (as played by Pfeiffer) is more disurbed/slightly insane than pure evil, and I'm not sure Cher's actress enough to play her like that. But as an evil older Catwoman, she'd be perfect.

Room for a new Catwoman

I have to disagree with Cher, I am not a Cher hater but there is just something about her that rubs me the wrong way, at the same time Michelle wouldnt of been my first choice and she managed to pull it off, now how about Sharon Stone? We know she has the legs and everything else that goes along with her. I vote for Sharon Stone.. she can seduce anyone..
Batman's picture

I almost want/need this to happen...

julie newmar is cool, and I also liked her in The Twilight Zone (she plays a hot devil) and of course Pfeiffer... I mean come on.

lmfao... this had me... ->(hello, Julie Newmar; nice to see you, Eartha Kitt; sit a little closer, Michelle Pfeiffer; not so fast, Halle Berry).

Sharon Stone

Considering Sharon Stone played Catwoman's enemy in that gawd-awful Halle Berry Catwoman flick, Sharon Stone as Catwoman might be a little too "ironic."

I did hear the 3rd Batman is supposed to jump ahead by more than 12 years (give or take a few), so Catwoman could be a little older and be Bruce Wayne's edge.  I have heard Nolan say emphatically he wants to do villians that haven't been in the movies yet, and "it doesn't have to be Penguin and Catwoman"

Las Vegas

Cher is in contract to perform at Ceasar's Palace with Bette Midler. I'm not sure how long th e contract is, but she just started not too long ago.  I'm thinking she might not even be available to do the movie unless they shoot it in Vegas or wait until her contract ends.

Batvillains not yet represented on screen

Well...I'm still up for a Rosario catwoman...but if they're gonna go with yet unseen batvillains, I'd like to see:

Zsasz

Calendar Man

or Lady Shiva....I think Nolan could make magic with any of these 'darker' characters.

We still need a bit of romantic intrigue though...so IF there won't be a catwoman, let's at least get some Vikki Vale in there!

I suppose it'd be an interesting move to age the Batman and see what happens when he's nearing 60 (A'la the Dark Knight Returns), but there's soooo much to tell before we make that jump....

and more...

killer croc, Harley Quinn, Mad Hatter, Clayface, to name a few... the only one I would love to see is Harley Quinn.
