"Dirt" goes six feet under

Gossip may sell on the newsstands (not to mention on the internet), but it appears FX isn’t buying it in primetime anymore. Dirt creator and star Courtney Cox announced that her series had been canceled while at a charity event Sunday.

The show ran two seasons on FX, though its second season was abridged by the Writers Strike. During its run it featured two prominent gay female characters. The first was lesbian drug dealer Garbo (Carly Pope). Her storyline involved a fairly graphic, accoutrement-enhanced sex scene with buyer/aspiring starlet Julia (Laura Allen).

The second was the much-hyped cameo by Jennifer Aniston as rival gossip maven for the season 1 finale. Aniston’s character, Tina Harrod, revealed that she and Courtney’s character, Lucy Spiller, had a “one-time” tryst years ago. (Or, perhaps four-time, but who is counting?) Her appearance included a same-sex kiss between the two. The smooch wasn’t much more than a peck. (And did they have to show the skeezy guy drooling about it afterward?) But at least the little butt pat Jennifer gave Courtney beforehand seemed sincere.

I was never a big fan of the series. I watched on-and-mostly-off during its first season and found the whole sordid affair a little too joyless for my taste. I like dark as much as the gal, but a show about gossip shouldn’t be this grim. I never got around to catching the shortened second season, thought The Linster reported that it was supposed to be a little lighter. (Apparently it didn’t help.)

"

So, did you dig Dirt (you knew that one was coming) while it was on the air? Will you miss it? Or should it be buried (you knew that one was coming, too)?

Carly Pope

I adore Carly Pope. I've tracked her career since popular. She's at the top of my "watch everything she acts in at least once" list. And even she couldn't make me watch the show. That makes me sad, particularly since she actually played gay, but not sad enought to watch.

I liked Dirt. It was just

I liked Dirt. It was just getting good at the end of the second season.

As much as Courtney was

As much as Courtney was always the hottest 'Friend' in my mind, the main reason to watch 'Dirt' was the gorgeous Alex Breckenridge!  The show was mildly entertaining without being great, or even good, I am really not surprised it has been cancelled, but I do hope it is not the end of Breckenridge.

I really wanted to like Dirt

I really wanted to like Dirt but I thought it could have been better. I thought the Garbo character was great- but then there was that weird sex scene she had and it just ruined the show for me.

This could have been a great show- but it didn't seem to find the pacing it needed.

Dirt

I wanted to like it too, but I just couldn't get into it.  I still have the last two episodes of this season on my TiVo waiting to be watched.

I hope to see Courtney in a new show soon.  Preferably a Friends Reunion!

Me three!

I wanted to like it and I thought the 1st season showed promise but the promise disappeared (for me) with the 2nd season. It is too bad, I really thought the concept was good but the execution was simply off.

:(

I LOVE (should that be loved?) Dirt!!

Even though in the second series you could clearly see what celebs the characters were meant to be.

No! :(

That means no more Garbo..... The ONLY reason I watched it. But I actually liked this show, when I usually wouldn't. Sad to see it go.

That's actually the original

That's actually the original short, which was then developed into the film.  I always thought it was a shame that they lost Alex and Clare Kramer, but I guess they gained Jordana Brewster.

that kinda sucks

i put up with the first season of DIRT but the second season was way better. more fun, took itself less seriously and was a guilty pleasure.

Finally!

...thats all I have to say.

Wasted opportunity...

They had so many underused interesting actresses.  I wanted to like it.  Garbo/Carly's lack of storyline/screentime was a waste.

Season 2

I watched most of Season 2 at hulu.com on a day I was home sick. I liked it better than the first season, although I have to admit I had a fever that day.

LOL!

"...although I have to admit I had a fever that day." the linster, you kill me :)

As i said above i preferred season 1 because i sincerely think that Courtney Cox as a selfish & heartless bitch is absolutely riveting, whereas as a mild bitch with men problem.... not so much, if you know what i mean. Does anyone remember her in the Scream series? yeah :)

Wish i had a better reason :)

I only had one reason to watch

and that was to see Carly Pope on my tv screen again. At least I can still see her on youtube :)

Carly Pope was the best

Carly Pope was the best thing about that show. After I realized that her character wasn't going to be showing up anymore, I stopped watching it. I melted at the way she would stare at that blond girl she had a crush on. I wish some1 would look at me like that!

We All know it wasn't up to par

I will be honest, when it premiered, I was excited, I really was. But then it wasn’t long until realized…wow….the name dirt is really suitable of this show….to name it garbage, nah, that would be too telling.

The tyrannt has no idea of what she/he really wants!
