Remember way back in July when we learned the original Misery Chick was finally, finally coming to DVD in 2010? Well, stop standing on my neck in anticipation, because the long-awaited Daria DVD now has a slightly more specific release date: Spring 2010. UPDATE: The official release date of May 11, 2010 was announced today! (Hat tip, Megan!)

Still too vague, but at least not winter 2010, am I right? The MTV animated-series ran from 1997-2002 and followed the sick, sad world of green-blazered, bespectacled teenage misanthrope Daria Morgendorffer and her best friend Jane Lane. MTV has released a teaser trailer to remind us all why Daria will forever be the queen of the dead pan.

Oh, how those caustic strains of “La la la la la” fill me with low esteem for everyone else. Since it left the air, MTV has released DVDs of the two Daria movies: Is It Fall Yet? and Is it College Yet? But the full series has never been released nor can episodes be seen currently airing anywhere in repeats. Is it spring yet?

So, does this news make you as happy as a herd of beautiful wild ponies running free across the plains? Also, anyone else secretly hope they add a DVD bonus feature detailing Daria and Jane’s coming out and subsequent relationship in college?

Yeah, I knew I wasn’t the only one.

It's really coming out on DVD? I thought they would never release it because of all the copyrighted music that played through the show! YAY!

Finally a dvd set (please be the whole series in one set instead individual volumes or seasons!!) to replace the Daria episodes taped onto VHS....

I am one of the biggest Daria fans ever (no joke, lol I have the tv show, movies, books, etc) But I am so so bummed this set is replacing a lot of the music. :( I know they don't have a choice but it breaks my heart.

That was my exact question: The music. Do we have confirmation they are getting rid of it? If so, what will it be replaced with? I hope they keep most of it. On what other show could you hear Beastie Boys, Daft Punk, Hanson, REM, The Lightning Seeds and OMC in one episode? It's awesome.

As expected, most of the music will be replaced. The money was not there to attain the rights for DVD. However, some of the replacement music will be covers, and the rest will be replaced by music that is substantially similar. Real music, not muzak.

I loved Daria when she was just the "smart nerdy girl" on Beavis and Butthead. I loved the show! so excited to get the DVD! I had no clue it ran until 2002! That must've been when I cancelled my cable!

I wonder what this means for the music issue, which I thought was always the reason the show wasn't released on DVD sooner. Will the original songs used be in tact on the DVD? I sure hope so. The music selections give the show such a distinct feel. I admittedly turned to illegal methods to get my Daria fix, but they are all rips from The N, where some of the more grown-up jokes are edited out, which is lame. The rip quality is also very poor. So I would be thrilled to be able to buy all of Daria in its full glory. The last season got kind of sucky (I blamed Tom), but those first couple seasons were the beeest. So snarky, so sarcastic, so awesome. Nothing like it on TV.

FUCK YES!!!!! 0_0 I'm so happy right now. lol I used to watch the show when I was in elementary school and I remember when she was on Beavis and Butthead. They used to call her Diarihea(sp?). Anyways I can't wait cause now I'll understand the jokes better now that I'm older lol. I still think Jane and Daria had something going on.

I remember Daria in the 90's along with Beavis & Butthead. I miss the old MTV (pre-reality shows when they were actually showing artistic music videos). The theme song is unforgettable. Anyone else think that Janeane Garofalo sounds exactly like Daria?
