Are you there, God? It's me, HermioneListen, I know the Harry Potter kids are growing up before our eyes, but this is ridiculous. It seems Warner Bros. execs decided to hurry the natural process when they released the IMAX version of the new Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix poster. Take a close look at 17-year-old star Emma Watson's, uh, assets in the original and IMAX posters. Either she had one magical growth spurt, or digital breast augmentation has come to Hogwarts.
Apparently adolescence was just moving too slowly for the studio's marketing department. But after a little Photoshop hocus-pocus, Hermione Granger went from normal to ta-ta da. What was it Scribe Grrrl was saying about the sexualization of the Potter girls? Color me convinced ... and grossed out. Say it with me: "Ick." In the new poster, not only did Emma get a bigger cup size, but she also got the wind tunnel treatment. Her hair is so wild that poor Neville (Matthew Lewis) is almost obscured by her tresses. Because, as we all know, big bazooms + flowy hair = more ticket sales. Of course, this isn't the first time an actress has gotten a little computer-aided cosmetic surgery in the name of bigger, shall we say, box office. Famously flat-chested actress Keira Knightley got some cyber-silicone to promote King Arthur. At the time, Keira was 19 — still awfully young, but at least legal. Once more, with feeling: "Ick."

makeup...
one of the things that puzzles me about the HP poster though, is that they've made emma's face more 'smooth' and applied more makeup in the old poster. And they've also made her hair thicker in the old poster... with the stronger colores in the old poster it looks more real then the new one.
and just want to add that I
that would make sense
That would definitely make sense. The one on the left really does look more Hollywood-ready (i.e. more airbrushed). And it would also be much more sensible if they purposely reduced Hermione's bustline to keep her more childlike.

Ick is right.
One would think that since the HP movies are for CHILDREN that advertisers and poster-makers and the like would be, if anything, considering SHRINKING Hermione's bust.
This is pretty disgusting.

Oh for goodness sake!
I don't know why breast size is equated with "sexiness."
I've seen some gorgeous women with tiny breasts and they have a sleek sexiness about them that I find very attractive (Keira Knightley and Cate Blanchett are just two very fine examples :-) )!
I pray that there will come a day when people will accept more diversity when it comes to beauty. Personally, I love variety and my eye is drawn to confident women with unique looks. I could not imagine looking out at a crowd of "cookie cutter" women with identical looks defined by society's concept of "ideal beauty."
Ah-hah!
yeah, I like tiny breasts..(and Keira Knightley , and Cate Blanchett...) what's wrong with them??? ^^'
really..I'm pretty sick of men's stupidity: "big breasts! big breasts!". Ick!
I like 'em tiny...
I totally agree with you, Heartsease. Are women with big boobs more attractive and sexier because their chest size? I don't get it... (It all goes south after a certain age.) Don't tell me Hollywood is plotting to have women look like Barbies. I thought that was Hugh Heffner's "job".

Biology. Breast and hip size
Biology. Breast and hip size are indicators of endogenous hormone levels (it's actually only true for both together, not just one or the other as thought previously).
This one's not going away any time soon.
Ick!
WB
good!
Wow, that's just... Eurgh.
Ron
ugh.You have to admit
ugh.
You have to admit though, big boobs are nice.
Not that I advocate the photoshopping of people's bust, but really. Stop hating.
big boobs are nice...
Oh, Darling
There's no "hating" (not on my part).
I just want people to accept women as they are and...
I don't want women to feel they need to fit some "ideal" image.
As I mentioned in my earlier post...I can delight in the variety of "looks."
Some gorgeous women are small and sleek...
Others have luscious curves...
Well...
You get the idea.
;-)
Amen
Thank you! You said it!
I absolutely LOATHED "Goblet of Fire" (the 4th Potter movie) for many reasons, but mainly because of what they did to Hermione, Potter's nearly maternal, chops-busting, intellectually nerdy, not-so-pretty friend. Hermione kicks ass because while she was very caring and considerate of Harry, she never failed to tell him when he's being a dick, as well as being a very capable "DA" member, and STILL having the time to ace all of her classes. Readers love Hermione exactly the way Rowling has created her -- why the HELL objectify an adolescent? Honestly, it's made me really uncomfortable to see Hermione so sexualized. Even by the sixth book, Hermione is still a kid in the sexual sense. I understand that with “The O.C.” and all other tv shows, the wider public wants to see more T&A from pre-teens, but this is a book adaptation, and while they should have creative leeway to adapt it as they see fit, objectifying the strongest female character is a cheap, sad, pathetic blow.
Actually...
I want the Hermione she was
