Annie Leibovitz keeps the Gap classicAnnie Leibovitz is possibly the best, and certainly the most famous, celebrity photographer around. And whether she is shooting for editorial or commercial use, I always pay attention to her gorgeous images. So when the Gap rolled out its new fall “Classics Redefined” campaign, I took a peek. And, once again, wow.
The array of famous (and somewhat less famous) faces posing in sweater vests, wide-leg trousers, French-cuff shirts and the like are actors Selma Blair, Lucy Liu, Regina King, Liev Schreiber, Forest Whitaker and Ken Watanabe; musicians John Mayer and Puffy AmiYumi; comedian Sarah Silverman; director Davis Guggenheim; designer Marcel Wanders and dancer-choreographer Twyla Tharp. (See them all here.)
Love or hate the Gap, you have to admire Leibovitz’s exquisite eye. Her images are so simple, yet so arresting. Heck, she even managed to make Mayer look like Johnny Depp. The woman has mad skills.
Though for me, unsurprisingly, it’s the women who make the campaign. For one, if I didn’t tell you this (above) was Sarah Silverman, would you even recognize her? She’s working some fierce Annie-Hall-meets-Twiggy mojo here.
And how about Selma and her seriously lesbianish hair? Come on, at the very least those locks were a L.U.G. in college. And then there's Regina with those arms. I feel like pulling a Nadia and asking her if she was ever a boxer.
As usual, Lucy and her alpine cheekbones are lovely (though I wish the makeup artist hadn’t covered up her delicious freckles). Now, admittedly, I know very little about Puffy AmiYumi other than that they’re a Japanese singing duo. But after seeing their bed head and hand holding, I’m well on my way to full-blown fanhood. Yummy indeed.
But the coup de grace, if you will, comes from iconic dancer/choreographer Twyla Tharp. At 66, she is more flexible than I have ever been in my entire life. I’m not sure whether I’m in awe or just jealous. I suspect it’s a healthy dose of both.

If you get a chance, you must go and see her show at the High Museum.
It's one thing to see her images in a book or online, but full-size is remarkable!

I completely agree. I just went Saturday with my friend and it was absolutely AMAZING. Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous photos.
Oh, and lots of lesbians. If, you know, you're into that sort of thing.
Beautiful!
Damn, I guess this means I'm going to have to start shopping at the Gap again.

lucy liu & selma blair
i think straight women should stop looking like lesbians (e.g. selma blair here) so i'd stop fantasizing about them.

Pose for me!
Check out Selma in fishnet stockings and ankle boots...gorgeous hair! Well, Annie has artistically delivered. Her body of work is unsurpassed in my book.
Niice!
I love black and white photos! Lucy Liu looks so hot there. The photographer is awesome if she can make John Mayer look like that. He looks so much better when he's not all puffy.
I shop at the Gap sometimes. They have some nice stuff like their jeans except it's so highly priced.
excellent photos
all of these photos are so great. everybody up there looks hotter in black and white than they probably would have doing the same poses but in color. the black and white makes all of them even more beautiful. never discount a great black and white photograph. i personally hope they never go out of style. there is only one word that can accurately describe that last photograph: DAMN!!!

Random fact : she used to be married to Ahmet Zappa (son of Frank, brother of Moon Unit, Dweezil, and Diva).
