Angelina Jolie gets animated for "Beowulf"Take a look at the picture below and tell me what you see. Angelina Jolie emerging from a pool of water? An outtake from one of her Tomb Raider movies? A shot of her as she prepares to visit Atlantis, her next destination for humanitarian work and possible child adoption? Well, wrong. Wrong. And, um, really wrong.
This photo is not actually Angelina Jolie because it’s not actually real. It’s a computer-generated Angelina from the new ancient action-adventure saga Beowulf. Clips from the upcoming film adaptation of the Old English heroic epic poem (you remember the one, with the warrior slaying the monster, from your high school Brit Lit class — or, if you’re English, just Lit class) were previewed at Comic-Con yesterday. I saw the trailer online, and it completely blew my mind. Check it out yourself and then let’s discuss why. OK, are you ready for the mind-blowing part? Not a single frame of that was live action. It was 100 percent computer animated. (To fully appreciate its awesomeness, see it in ginormous HD here.) I finished watching and had no idea it was completely CGI. I’m still not sure I believe it.
The movie, helmed by Forrest Gump’s Robert Zemeckis, uses the same motion-capture method as another of the director’s projects, The Polar Express. Clearly, the technology has advanced and is now near photo realistic. Sure, it’s not all pixel-perfect. Poor Robin Wright Penn looks a bit like a long-lost princess from Shrek the Third.
But back to CGI Angelina. As the seductive and fearsome mother of the monster Grendel, she spends most of her role naked (like you weren’t already sold). She also appears to have a real-life ponytail (emphasis on tail) and high-heeled cloven feet. If nothing else, you know this movie will spark one of the great debates of our time: Which is hotter? Real Angelina or animated Angelina? Discuss.

animated Angelina
I'll probably be the only person to vote for animated Angelina, but here's why: I love bad girls. Always have, always will. I love chicks with a little hint of malice and anger, and even though I don't miss crazy Billy Bob Thornton huggin' Angelina, there is a part of me that really misses her.
That was truly an awesome trailer. I'm wondering if Beowulf will be another Troy in terms of adherence to the mythology.
I don't get it. You have
WOW
i fell in love with this story through another fantastic adaptation - the xena trilogy of the ring.
but an animated angelina who is naked most of the film? YOWZA.
this film looks fantastic...i can't wait to see it.
as per your question...i still think the real deal is who i'd wanna be surrendering my life to...although the animated version of angie has a real kick to it.
Future applications

Oh, just you wait, in 10-15 years it won't be all over the place for fan fiction but it will be all over the place transferred directly into our brains for participation, pornographic or otherwise. I think that when they invent chips to put in our brains first for medicinal purposes, video games and such will make the rest of the world get chips implanted, too. Eerie.
But I agree with lectra, if you have a real life Angelina to play the part, why animated her? Wouldn't it be cheaper to animate a character that doesn't exist and hence doesn't want to get paid for it? :)

Booyah!
Real Angelina all the way...
ANIlina is hot and all, but still pales in comparison to the real deal. Movie looks like it's going to be great though.

Did I...
read somewhere it will be in IMAX? I was a weird southern kid that loved Brit-lit (now my southern brain is putting a c in that word and distracting me as usual) as much as my southern lit. Beowulf is awesome to adapt to CGI. I see CGI as fine art akin to what B/W photography has always been. CGI just bumps up the surreal visuals and isolates action into an otherworldy state for the viewer. A lot has evolved since Tron, aye? And, well, altered-AJ in this fantastical realm is amazing.

i just wanna know, why in
i just wanna know, why in the hell would you make a cgi movie that looks like a live-action movie? seems just like a waste of time and money to me. i'd have seen the movie if it was live-action....
just asking.
live-action angelina will ALWAYS be hotter.
The poem, the book, and the movie..
Still....it LOOKS really cool...
the animation is..
ME too!
I LOVE the Seamus Heaney translation. Have you ever heard him read it in the Old English and then in his translation?
hey!
hmmm, close but still far
okay, so maybe i'm just a geek cinephile but it totally looks like cgi to me - it's the lack of emotion in the eyes, the stiff appendages and the rubberized body motions that give it away so easily.
however, that said, the technology has come a long way and it still looks pretty darn fantastico.
Bad Uneek Bad
Ok maybe because it is Friday afternoon or something but after watching that trailer all I could do was try to figure out how a new 65 inch plasma tv would fit into the budget and the living room.

want the real one
I rather have the real one.

Though the animated really looks like the real her;)

The future application of this is bringing back long dead or aged actors for sequels and remakes, without casting people that only vaguely resemble the original. I agree that it makes little sense for them to do well known actors at this point in timefor this movie, but think of continuing things like Firefly, without haveing to round up all the actors again, or if someone were to die, just flat out replacing them.

Okay, we're definitely going to see this.
It's crazy that all of this is freakin' computer animated! o_O
Can't wait!
Ok So.
looks super cool..
..besides, I'll try anything once, within reason, can't help but notice that she's still trying to flog that weird ass accent from Alexander..

Creepy?
I don't know why, but when I read the blog and saw the top picture for the first time my first thought was "ugh, creepy"
I never thought I would say that about Angelina but there's just something about the pic that creeps me out. I'm weird I know.
Bath water?
Couldn't pay me to see it?
No real investment in actors at least trying to get into character (any wrong expression can be fixed by the computer guy) and no real sets.
It's lazy and an insult to ones intelligence
I just saw this film and
I just saw this film and overall it was pretty good. "ANIlina" (good one RuggedAscent) is hot, but I think real-life Angie is still sexier.
