Angela Bassett is set to scrub into the "ER"

She’s already been a private dancer, now Angela Bassett will be in private practice. OK, fine, it’s more like general practice. The Oscar-nominated and Golden Globe-winning actress will join the fifteenth and final season of ER in the fall.

The move marks a transition for the 49-year-old actress from the big to the small screen. TV has previously been the domain of Angela’s husband, Courtney B. Vance, a veteran of both Law & Order: Criminal Intent and State of Mind.

Angela will play an attending physician who is returning to Chicago after working the past few years in Indonesia tsunami relief. According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Her arrival in the second episode next season promises to shake County General's ER to the core.”

Unlike The Linster, I haven’t been a regular ER patient watcher for quite a while now. In fact, Maura Tierney and Goran Visnjic are the only regulars I remember from back when I used to tune in at the end of my Thursday night Must-See TV block. It’s not that I don’t enjoy the current cast – particularly Linda Cardellini and Parminder Nagra. But I guess there are just so many times you can see someone scream “STAT!” over a crash cart.

Producers have said that Angela’s character has a tough side that hides a troubled past. Will her addition lure me back? It just might. I’ve been a huge fan since her star-making turn as Tina Turner in What’s Love Got to Do With It. Plus if she wears a lot of sleeveless tops in the ER, then I’ll be the one in need of a crash cart, STAT.

So, will Angela’s addition make it worth one more visit to the ER for you?

Well, either way I'm

Well, either way I'm watching it until the end (or it kills me...). To me it just sounds as if they're kicking themselves for suddenly have a buncha young'uns on the show and no more seasoned characters on there... No Luka, no Kerry... no Mark, no Elizabeth. None of these characters have more than a couple of years of experience, even the attendings.

I guess it couldn't turn out worse than the addition of the character of Tony, or the guy from Sea Patrol.... and her arms... :)

I'm like you

I'm watching either way. I've watched consistently since the beginning. it began when I was freshman in college. it was the show that everyone would get togehter and watch...I've stuck it out this far, i may as well see it to the end. At least that's what I said 4 years ago when I though the end was coming.  Hopefully, this is really it!

I'm Sold!

Angela Bassett will definitely have me tuning in!  I believe she is one of the most underappreciated veterans in the industry.

No way

I used to be a huge fan of ER, but now I'm so done with it.  Nothing could get me to watch it again.  I'm glad it's finally going to be over.

Like you

I've not been a regular ER watcher in a looong time...perhaps since Clooney =)

but with Bassett joining the cast, I'm definitely tuning in!

Nah!

ER has long lost its luster. I would rather see the sublime Ms. Bassett flex her prodigious acting chops playing against, perhaps, Glenn Close on the 2nd season of "Damages" or against Kira "Thank youuuuuu" Sedgwick on my summer guilty pleasure, "The Closer." Angela is going to be running circles around those mortals left on ER. This won't be pretty.

Ah, Angela...

I'll check it out to see her!
