Amber Benson briefly checks into "Private Practice"

You may be back under Amber Benson’s spell soon. The Buffy the Vampire Slayer alum and half of the television’s greatest lesbian witch couple of all time will appear on Private Practice in March.

According to TVGuide.com, Benson will appear on the sophomore series as a young woman who comes to Oceanside Wellness “in the aftermath of being brutally attacked seeks not just medical care ... but perhaps something more.”

What more? I have no idea. She will appear in the 18th episode, which is tentatively slated for air in mid-March. Private Practice, the Kate Walsh Grey’s Anatomy spin-off, has moved to Thursday nights right behind its screen sire.

Amber, who played Willow’s wiccan girlfriend Tara Maclay for three season on Buffy, will be the third Buffyverse veteran to appear on the series. Amy Acker and Alexis Denisof (Angel’s Fred and Wesley, respectively) appeared in separate episodes earlier this fall. I’m not sure how this former-employees-of-Joss-Whedon pipeline got started to Private Practice, but I approve of anything that keeps all my old TV pals gainfully employed.

Of course, Amber has been keeping busy all on her own, too. In 2007 she signed a three-book deal with Penguin books to pen a trilogy of fantasy/horror novels. The first book, Death’s Daughter, is scheduled to come out in March on Penguin’s Ace paperback imprint. The books follow Calliope Reaper-Jones, a seemingly normal young woman whose father happens to be Death himself.

This isn’t Amber’s first work as a wordsmith. Besides penning the three Willow & Tara comic books (as well as other comic projects), Amber co-wrote the Ghosts of Albion series with Christopher Golden. That collaboration produced novels, novellas and animated projects.

So, are you excited to see Tara Amber back on the small screen? And, come on CBS, how about a Willow/Tara reunion on How I Met Your Mother? Think about it.

    aw, i love amber. i want her on my screen more. i don't care for private practice, but i think i'll tune in for her appearance. and i'd be all for amber guesting on how i met your mother. that would be fun. :]

    Yaaaay!!! Hopefully she can make Private Practice that little bit less crap!! Cos I went in thinking YAY! More Addison!! And I'm currently watching it going ".....why?"

    havent been watching private practice much since it has become a little weird, but now i will definitely tune in. that is quite exciting. amy acker was really good on it too.

    I'm very excited to see Amber back on my television.  I gave up on Private Practice awhile back, but I'll be sure to tune in for this episode.

    As for a guest appearance on How I Met Your Mother, I would love that!  I think she definitely should be signed up for that.

    My guess that the reason that so many of Whedon's former employees are showing up on Private Practice is because Marti Noxon is one of the writers for the show and works a lot on it (she mentions this breifly during the Buffy reunion last spring)

    First post here on AfterEllen, woot!  I have been a lurker for awhile now and I thought it was time that I should sign up. =D

    I'm new to the Buffy fandom also!  I only just finished all the seasons last month.  Yet, i'm still excited that Amber Benson will be in this.  I have been looking up a lot of things that she is been in.

    I so adore Amber Benson.  She has "played gay" more times than I can count, not to mention done many gay issue films (even if her character had to be straight in a few), and is such a wonderful ally.  I've definitely been under Amber's spell from the moment I saw that first Wicca group scene in "Hush".

    I just have to say, this is why I love AfterEllen (and Dorothy Snarker).  Not only can I get comprehensive and intelligent coverage of lesbian/bi issues in the media, but I also never miss a single project from Buffy alumni.  Who could ask for more?  I mean, I also regularly go to Whedonesque, but this site is funnier and has pretty pictures.

    Face it:  Amber Benson RAWKS!  She's like your comic-book reading, Buffy-watching, femslash-writing uber-geek girlfriend!!  * sigh *  And I would much rather see her on PP than Grey's...

    In a kicky twist, Alexis Denisof is Willow Alyson Hannigan's partner, so if Amber did a spot on HIMYM, it would be, um, weird.

    I'm highly intrigued by the concept of Death's Daughter.  Someone (Joss? Marti?) should jump all over it.

    She will actually be the fifth Buffyverse actor on Private Practice this season. Emma Caulfield(Anya) and Leonard Roberts(Forrest) were on the show tonight which was a lovely surprise.
