Mia Kirshner writes her first book, thankfully not titled "Lez Girls"I know that Mia Kirshner is not Jenny Schecter. I am able to distinguish fact from fiction. I rarely blur the lines between reality and fantasy (except in my most uninhibited, sweaty dreams involving Dara Torres and the U.S. Olympic women's soccer team). Yet, when I first heard that Mia had written a book, I recoiled in horror. Oh, God, not those angsty floating words. Sweet fancy moses, not the confusing carnival of shame. Please, for the love of all that is good, save us from the masturbatory opus!
And then, I remembered to breath and relaxed. Mia is not Jenny. Her book is not Lez Girls. Instead, The L Word actress has written the travelogue I Live Here, which will be published Oct. 14 by Pantheon Books.
Mia's debut novel is described as a “paper documentary” done with the collaboration of graphic novelist Joe Sacco, writer J.B. MacKinnon and graphic designers Paul Shoebridge and Michael Simons. The book chronicles Mia's seven years of travel across the globe and the devastation she has seen. Part diary, part graphic novel, I Live Here spans the war in Chechnya, ethnic cleansing in Burma, globalization in Mexico and AIDS in Malawi.
Whew — that sounds a whole lot better than reading about the not-so-thinly-veiled exploits of Bev and Nina. Though, just in case, she might not want to let Bette Porter get her hands on a copy. Wait — damn — fantasy/reality, there I go again.

Another talented lady...
WoW! Mia Kirshner is writing a book!
Does anyone know if she has written anything before?
I'll have to get my hands on a copy!
Oh my God...it's Yoda!
wow, read much?!
quote uhhuhhuh?: Does anyone know if she has written anything before?
guess you missed the headline that says 'Mia Kirshner writes her first book...'
lmao
on to the book/comic/graphic novel - it might not be far off her (character's) writings on the l word, after all she is writing about the devastation she has seen! i'm guessing it's going to be dark and probably horrific.
not sure i'd want to read it. it's bad enough these things happen, and we read them elsewhere, but i don't think i'd want to then read the events from someone else's perspective. that's going to be down right harrowing.
good luck to her, though.
Finally!!!
Can't wait to read it! I remember her talking about this a few years ago....it was a bit "hush hush" but it doesn't take much to get me excited about literature! So I'm pretty stoked about this!!!
Sara: They didn't hit that shit.
Tegan: I didn't...
Sara: Say it, it's okay, it's part of the therapy.
Tegan: No it really wasn't about "hitting that shit" I really wanted to like marry the person. I was in a very desperate state.
Sara: You wanted to hit that shit and get married.
Tegan: Yeah.

I first noticed her in Atom
I first noticed her in Atom Egoyan's Exotica (from one of my very farorite directors).
She is surely very talented.
Magnificent Mia!!
I too, cannot wait to finally read about her incredible journey. The I Live Here Foundation sounds wonderful.
PS Ms Snarker you crack me up!
Finally!! This was supposed
back to the future? hehe!
quote Pheme: This was supposed to be released in 2008.
erm, last time i looked it was still 2008... lol!
sig: i'm pissed off, so sue me.
LOL
how exciting.
Lol...that header
A good cause...
A book written for a good cause... that should make for a good read. I remember reading Angelina Jolie's book Notes From My Travels about her experience with seeing first hand the displaced persons living in refugee camps, etc. and it was quite fascinating to get that kind of perspective.
It would seem that Mia is very dedicated to getting her message across as well and that she really took a lot of time to dedicate herself to putting together this book, so I'm really looking forward to seeing the end result.
I have to agree with sleepylobster in saying that Mia is indeed very talented and multi-faceted... Mia first caught my eye in Love and Human Remains and then in Exotica and she's always been on my "one to watch" list.

I'm sure it was a pretty old interview so nits so weird i discovered about it right before it was posted about on here
sounds interesting, at first i thought it was gona be like a documntary i saw about ppl who had moved and felt like it wasn't home but now it seems thats not what its about at all
Did I spot an obscure BTVS reference?
Xander FTW!
And, I vaguely remember Ms. Kirshner talking about her travels (and pos. the book thing) I think on some bonus feature or something. It was mostly like through YouTube. I remember watching and thinking, "Oh wow, Mia's really deep." Which should really come as no surprise...

looks so interesting...
can't wait to read it! Mia is one of the most interesting and under appreciated actresses out there. I'm sure her book will be an eye opener for most of us.

I adore Mia Kirshner and
Go Mia!
I wonder if she has always wanted to do write or if playing an author made her want to try it.
Either way, any time a woman claims her voice, I think it's cause for celebration.
