Three reasons 2008 already makes me laughI don't know about you, but this hasn’t been my favorite year at the movie theater. While a handful of independent charmers made their mark, all in all I wasn’t blown away by many of the big-budget, big-star offerings at the cineplex this year. But, ever the cinematic optimist, I’ve already got three reasons to look forward to 2008. I say out with the old and serious, in with the new and funny. These three upcoming comedies caught my eye. So bring on the new year and save me some popcorn.
1. Nim's Island (April 2008) Jodie Foster brings the wacky. As an agoraphobic, reclusive author (is there any other kind?), the double Oscar winner lets her comedic talents shine through for a change. Pratfalls and desert islands? I’m in.
2. Leatherheads (April 2008) Kind of like O Brother, Where Art Thou? meets Bull Durham, but with football. I wasn’t that interested in this George Clooney vehicle until I heard Renee Zellweger trot out that little zinger about the “big strapping men.” Nineteen-twenties repartee and silly hats? I’m in.
3. Mamma Mia! (summer 2008) Dude, Meryl Streep and singing and dancing and ABBA? You don’t even need to ask. I’m so in.
So, do any other comedies coming up look like they might tickle your funny bone? And how much do you love Jodie in this hat?

Nim's Island
I've been waiting a good long time for Jodie to step away from the serious, and FINALLY! my prayers to Jeebus have been answered!
Leatherheads and Nim's Island both open on April 4th, btw. Won't be a tough choice for me though.
What about Baby Mama with Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Sigourney Weaver? It's also opening in April!!!
jodie in a comedy - I can't wait!
true, 2007 was kinda *shrugs* mnyeah, not so great. tv was way better than cinema this year, at least in my opinion!
omg, I can't wait to see nim's island! jodie and abigail in one movie - what more could I wish for?? I can't think of any comedy with jodie, has she ever done one?? I bet she's just great, as usual.
leatherheads and mama mia! seem like fun movies, but I'm not yet too exited about it. I'll have to watch them and see wheter they are actually good. of course, meryl streep is a really great reason to watch any movie

jodie in comedy
Well, I can think of one other comedy featuring our Ms. Foster, and it was the movie that made me a fan of hers. The original Freaky Friday, which was released in 1977, I think. I was a wee little thing at the time, and I thought she was so dreamy.. er, I mean, cool. No wait, I do mean dreamy.. I just didn't quite know it yet. ;) Oh yes, and she was also funny.
Good lord.. smart, funny, and beautiful.. *fans self* Can't wait to see this.
yeah, right, I forgot
thanks for the info, I completly forgot about that movie. unfortunatly, that was a bit before my time, so I haven't seen that one. even though I'd love to see it!!

ABBA
William & Mary??
Is that a William & Mary shirt Jodie is wearing? Maybe we'll finally get some good press! Jon Stewart, J.D. & Turk, "Jodie"... I'm liking our alums.

i've been looking forward
i've been looking forward to mama mia since i first heard meryl was doing it...
she looks damn good. :)
nim's island
i can't wait to see nim'sisland!!!!
it looks fantastic! i'm not too excited by the other two trailers, but who knows? looks can be deceiving...
Get Smart
I can't wait for Get Smart (June 20). I loved the old TV series.
Oh, and I love Jodie in the hat this much *spreads arms*...but she kind of looks like the Gorton's fisherman after he's sniffed one of his minced-pollack fishsticks.
"but she kind of looks like
"but she kind of looks like the Gorton's fisherman after he's sniffed one of his minced-pollack fishsticks."
BAHAHAHA!!!! she does doesn't she?
ABBA and Meryl Streep
Nim's Island
Nim's Island is a definite yes. I laughed so hard during that trailer, nearly fell of my chair!
Leatherheads a maybe
and Mamma Mia? Mamma No No! Though Merel Streep (and Amanda Seyfried) may be good and all that, there's no way I want to see that. I needed the 'my eyes my eyes!' bunny for it, not to mention a 'my ears my ears!' bunny
The Way The Cookie Crumbles
No Borders AllowedNim's Island : what a hoot!
Saw the trailer, and I was gobsmacked by the comedic flare of Jodie. Where has she been hiding her comic talents all these years? I laughed out loud. So I am so looking forward to it, even though its supposed to be a kids movie :)
love love Jodie~
Nim's Island and Mama Mia
Nim's Island and Mama Mia look great and I can't wait. Love ABBA and Meryl (and Christine Baranski!) and Nim's looks funny. As for Leatherheads...um, no. Can't stand Zellweger.
Also can't wait for Inkheart...I guess it's more of a Fantasy than a comedy, but having read the book, I'm sure there will be SOME comedic moments in it. I hope....OK, so I only read the book because I knew they were making it into a movie and that Helen Mirren would be playing a paying a part in it....whatever. It comes out in March and I can't wait to see it! And National Treasure 2 comes out tomorrow so go get your tickets!! (She plays Nic Cage's mom.)
yay!
well, it looks great! can't wait to see Nim's Island... Jodie Foster playing comedy? yay! ^^
Nim's Island
Nim's Island is definitely on my must list for 2008... I mean Jodie Foster alone is enough to get me to go to the movies, but Jodie Foster in one of the rare times she does comedy... now I have to go!
Jodie was in Maverick and earlier on in Freaky Friday, Bugsy Malone and other films with comedic tinges to them, but this one looks like the most fun so far!
"Think Sideways"
oh my
Dude!! Wish it was April
Well, I heard of Nim's Island.. ehh.. only the name actually and that Jodie was going to do that film, but I had no idea it was gonna be this cool!! Awesome! I'm totally excited now. I really love Jodie in less serious roles (not that I don't love her in the serious ones) and I'm so excited she's finally doing one again!!! This is so gonna be a hit movie, I just feel it, haha! You're number 2 I'm not looking forward to, because Renee is in it and I really don't like her! And number 3 looks great, and Meryl is in it, so I'm in!
