What to do if you're not at Dinah Shore this weekendWe all know that lesbian Mecca, Dinah Shore weekend, is heating up Palm Springs right now, and it seems as if every party-minded queer woman in North America is there. Those of us skipping the nonstop array of pool parties and celesbian sightings might be feeling just a wee bit jealous (or justified) at missing out on the festivities.
But just because you didn't spring for airfare doesn't mean you can't have a great weekend. I've put together a little list of non-Dinah activities guaranteed not to leave you broke, sunburned or fated to do the dreaded walk of shame in a hotel bathrobe. 1. Watch things. So it isn't exactly a big blockbuster weekend at the movies, but there's plenty of good under-the-radar stuff if you know where to look. Jellyfish (Meduzot) has been getting rave early reviews, and Water Lilies looks more than intriguing (and more than a little bit lesbianish) in its depiction of teenage angst. It's also out writer-director Celine Sciamma's first big international release.
Since these films are only screening in a few cities, you could also stage an impromptu protest and complain loudly that women filmmakers don't get enough visibility. Failing that, it's a perfect weekend to partake in a DVD marathon of your TV show of choice. Make it The L Word if you must, but I can't guarantee you won't wake up with a Dinah-caliber hangover from all the drama. 2. Go for a run. We're gearing up for marathon Monday here in Boston, so it seems as if everyone and their grandmother is lacing up the shoes and getting in the spirit. What better way to get rid of the winter blahs? If nothing else, you can pretend it's a warm-up for the new season of Work Out.
3. Play games. March was an uncharacteristically amazing month for console gamers, and this weekend is the perfect time to catch up or rediscover your inner geek. The last couple of weeks saw the release of Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Sega Superstar Tennis on the Wii, Condemned 2 and N+ on the Xbox 360, Bully: Scholarship Edition on the Xbox 360 and Wii, and the massive Metal Gear Solid Collection for the PS2 ... Dinah who?
4. Battlestar Galactica returns. Now, this is the real reason not to care about Dinah. While your friends are busy buying overpriced drinks to spill all over their white party attire, you could be snuggled up watching the best guns the universe has to offer.

Missing Dinah
I must say I've been kind of bummed that I'm not going to Dinah this weekend. Especially since I now live on the west coast a short drive away from Palm Springs. Finances can stop lots of things, especially road trips to girly paradise!
I guess I'll just have to catch up on DVDs, books, and try to complete my world tour on Rock Band! And I'll be watching the five billion vlogs that I'm sure will be popping up on AE. God I love this site!

dinah-lina
There is some good content on JD's outfest.blogspot (smoking cocktail)
check it out!
was watching one of her
was watching one of her vids on youtube and I'm in it at 47 seconds in with the green bikini lol

just got home was an amazing time, got to meet Bridget, Karmen, Jill, Sarah Warn, the entire 3way cast, Michelle Wolff, Michelle Clunie, Marnie Alton, Michelle Paradise, Dani Campbell, Rebecca Drysdale etc
Oh wait, there's more!
Though I would love to be in the sun out in Cali, alas, I am stuck in the midwest. Other suggestions of television viewing options (in addition to Battlestar Galatica): NCAA women's basketball tournament on Sunday (Tenn v. LSU & UConn v. Stanford), new episode of Numb3rs tonight, anything on the Food Network, John Adams on HBO, the actual Dinah Shore golf tournment aka the Kraft Nabisco Championship - the first major of the year, Degrassi Spring Break Movie and Degrassi marathon, and when all else fails, reruns of CSI and/or Law and Order.
Happy Dinah-less weekend!

this is a bad weekend to be me :(
the reason I can't go to dinah is that I live in europe, so that would just be way to expensive. BUT, this saturday, there's a great party in my hometown, a "ladies" party -> no boys allowed!!! these parties take place about 3-4 times a year and each time my friends and I go we have a blast. but, I'm so busy with university, there was just no way that I could sit in the train for 6,5 hours in total, pay 50 bucks for the ticket just to essentially be at home for a day. so, my plan for this weekend is:
I truly hope y'all have a better weekend than I will, no matter where you are!!

i guess you have to be 21 to actually attend Dinah/have a good time while you're there. Too bad for me because i still have 3 more years to go. boo
4...
Thanks for trying to make us feel better!
Oh Yeah, there's a Golf Tournament going on
Thanks, FilmGrrl, for reminding us what "The Dinah" is really about. Well worth watching, even though its relegated to a minor US network (no North America wide coverage until Sunday). The top players all have to train to be hard bodies now, and its worth cranking up your gaydar just a little bit higher and taking a good long look at the field;)
Just think of it as practice for the Olympics later this year....
oh what i would give to be there right now!
but being broke is sooo not cutting it at the moment!
the not being of age yet would not concern me at all, i have "connections" that just follow me every where. but i think i'll probably wait a year or two so then i'll actually have money and not have to devise a plan to get all my liquor in! wow....there's so a comment right there but i'm not gonna even go there lol
the saddest part about not being able to go though is that i won't beable to meet all my favorite AE vloggers and such that are there :(
So i guess what i'll be doing is having a Xena marathon, reading my latest vampire/werwolf novel, playing halo, walking around(i'll get to running eventually), and shooting pool. that pretty much is what i've been doing for the past 2 weeks after losing my job anyways :p
have fun to all that's there and be sure to have a drink for me! ;)

Doctor Who and Other Shows
The new season of Doctor Who starts Saturday, so I'll definitely be waiting for that to be put up somewhere online for me to watch. This season's gonna kick ass. Plus, I'll be re-watching all the episodes of Secret Diary of a Call Girl and season one of She Spies, and some First Wave, so my weekend's pretty much covered.
Plus, there is no way I'm gonna drive all the way to Palm Springs by myself, not to mention the lack of money.

A bit bummed...
Obviously, I'm a bit bummed at not being at Dinah this week, as I would love to have met all of the wonderful vloggers of AfterEllen and the ladies of Dante's Cove and 3Way, etc. in person. Alas we can't always have (or afford/or get the time off) to do everything we want, so I'll have to make due with some other activities and hope that I can live vicariously through the vlogs/pictures from and about Dinah that will inevitably make their way onto the web.
On a more happy note, I will be attending the Wolfe Video Party in Tampa, FL. this Monday evening where among the guests will be Clementine Ford (Molly) and Maylaya Rivera Drew (Adele) from The L Word and Dreya Weber from The Gymnast, so at least I'll be getting my own share of fun with the ladies at this more small scale lesbian event!

Wolfe Party
I'll be there too!! Can't wait to see Dreya perform!
We may not be at Dinah, but hey 22,000 women are here in Tampa to see basketball. Life's not too bad!
STUDYING TO DO THIS WEEKEND
Hi Every1,
I wish I could go to Dinah but I live in North Carolina so its kinda of hard to just go right now. To tell you the truth I didn't even now what Dinah was until I googled it and I herad Jenn and Dee talking about it on their vlog. I have never been on the west coast but I would love to go. I have a lot of studying to do anyway this weekend . So you know maybe every1 can come to the Atlanta Pride July 4-7 this year I'll be at that one. I hope every1 has a great weekend. Showing some southern love

Well I would have love to go but after looking up the plane ticket from montreal to palm spring I've decided to just simply relax at home with my girlfriend :P Its better for my wallet...

we might even talk about dinah shore...
Not going too
Europe as well here and still 19 years old (it's 21 for both foreigners and americans right?)
Apart from that I need to study, since I got exams in less than 2 months and loads of anatomy and physiology to understand (or memorise if understanding fails).
I could spare a weekend and I have the cash but it would not be worth the flight for sure.
Just wait a few more years (probably 5 of them years) and if it still exists and it's still as popular who knows I might show up.
*starts getting in shape for Dinah in 5 years resolution* (doubt how long it will last)
