Lucy Lawless plays up the Xena factor

I fell in love with Lucy Lawless when she was the dark-haired, leather-clad bad girl of Xena: Warrior Princess, but I love her no less in all her femme incarnations. From sassy blonde '40s movie star to glittering cowgirl to — be still my heart — Sunday night's sultry chanteuse, I love the Lawless that gave her fans what most called "her best concert ever" at San Francisco's Herbst Theater, in a benefit for the Richmond/Ermet AIDS Foundation.

AfterEllen.com photographer KT Jorgensen was there, and said, "Boy, does she know how to play with the audience. She reaches out and grabs our attention and imagination with a smile and more. During one song, she slowly stripped both of her long gloves off. Wow. Best song of the night: 'Hallelujah.'"

Lucy sang in front of a video backdrop, including some scenes of her days on Xena, something I've never seen before at one of her concerts. Fans also saw a few clips of her role as the Cylon D'Anna Biers on Battlestar Galactica. And another first: KT says the acoustics were great.

For her encore, Lucy sang the song "Bitch," then offered to re-do it in any style the audience chose. They first had her do a bluegrass version, and then she followed it up with a blues version.

KT swore she was going camera-less to the next Lucy concert, most likely in Los Angeles this coming January, during the Xena convention. "I don't really get to experience the concert when I am looking through the lens," she said, "But I do get to experience Lucy."

Hey, I'll take it.

    I'm currently watching Xena from the beginning, buying the dvd's as I go, and my, is Lucy a beautiful woman, or what! And she can sing^_^ I soooo wish I could go see her in concert one day...Lucy, come to Europe!!

    I'm watching Xena from season 1 too,I want to rememeber those old times with this great show :)

    I too am re-watching Xena, I'm up to Season 3 after recently completing my collection. I'm so excited because I missed so many episodes!!

    Do you think there'll be a DVD or CD? I love her voice and have 'The Bitter Suite' soundtrack, but would love to get my hands on more of her music!

    Has anyone heard her sing 'Like the Way I Do'? *Soooo* amazing!!

    The woman proves again what a living Goddess she is. SHe sounded incredible, and looked even better. Has she put on a couple pounds? Her body is looking perfect. Her voice was spot on as well. xX

    I saw Lucy sing in London in May and it really was a fun show. She has no aspirations to be taken seriously (she said it herself) but the shows are usually ALL Xena/BSG/Lucy fans and the atmosphere was amazing. I wasn't sure if I would like her singing that much, but she knows how to deliver a song and puts on a great show. Great stuff.

    I feel weird. I must be the only person on this planet that hasn’t ever watched  ‘Xena Warrior Princess’. When it was on telly I must have just been doing something else?!!???

    I was one who never saw or heard anything Xena until they were into their 3rd season. This is the season where they started to get closer.  I was over at my moms visiting and saw this beautiful blue-eyed woman dressed in skimpy warrior clothing. That in itself was enough for me to pay attention for more than a few minutes. lol  Then I saw Gabrielle. At first I thought she was a little annoying sidekick, but then they started showing obvious affection toward each other.  Well... I just had to know more.  So I searched for it on the internet that night and wow - the whole internet was abuzz about their relationship. A big "are they or aren't they" was going on. I was hooked from that moment on. I stayed tuned and watched re-runs on USA until I was able to watch all 6 seasons. lol

    The show itself always left you feeling a tad disappointed because you wanted them to really really hook up - not play "are they or aren't they" the whole way through the series....but the stories on the internet more than made up for what the show itself lacked.  So watch the show - read the internet stories - you will be hooked!!

    You can get the show on DVD or VHS tape for a fraction of what they were when the show was active on Amazon.com  A must see!

    What made the show even better was how dedicated both Lucy Lawless and Renee O'Connor are to their fans. Both Lucy and Renee go out of their way to keep very close contact with their fans. If you look up Lucy's name on the yahoo search engine - you will find her fanclub. She blogs on a fairly regular basis. Depending on how busy she is.

    And what is even BETTER.... LUCY will be on "The L Word" for the 6th final season. They are keeping her part secret until she shows up. Can't wait!!!!

    I only saw for the first time and watched Xena all the way through Seasons 1 to 6 late in 2007 after seeing Lucy on BSG. I bought the DVD set and can watch it over and over. I'm now a huge fan, am hooked well and truly. I adore the character of Gabrielle played by Renee O'Connor. I would love to see Lucy live in concert one day. It might happen if enough interest can be generated for an Australian visit.

    Well from the way you've described it I now also feel deprived as well, lol. But I haven’t really watched the L Word either, only just snippets from a few episodes in the first series which I don’t really remember that well. So unfortunately I don’t really get the added significance of Xena appearing in the last series of LWord either because of neither figuring in my previous television viewing which sounds and probably is absolutely criminal, I'm sure. But now I obviously know what I need to do. Get watching of both before Xena hits the L Word. Man, what a mission!

    Lucy looks wonderful in all the photos I've seen, I wish I could have been there. She always puts on a GREAT show. I was lucky enough to see her 2 concerts in London as well as the 2 at the Roxy in January, and if this was better than the London ones then I've REALLY missed a treat!! I hope she'll be performing again next Xena Con at the end of Jan beginning of Feb 2009 in LA!! Go Lucy!!

    I could wax lyrical for hours about the awesomeness that is Lucy Lawless, but I won't.

    I'm a Xenite from way back - I'll never forget my first episode; it was Altared States and I think it was probably the shot of Xena walking out of the lake that got me hooked (y'all know what I'm talking about). I've never looked back, and all those that haven't checked out the show should - it taught me a lot about friendship, loyalty, redemption and kicking butt. Plus it got me through some hard times and the Xena fan community are one of the greatest in all of fandom, largely due to the giving, loving and accepting nature of Ms Lawless.

    I was at the two London shows back in May and they were just amazing!! Seems Lucy manages to better herself with every single gig. Can't wait to see what she does next...

    OH.MY.GOD.

     She darkened her hair again!!!  I have always loved her with dark hair, it really makes those blue eyes pop!  Oh and I've been a xenite since forever it seems lol. 

     Fan fic has gotten me through many a tough time *sigh* if you've never seen the show or read the Fan Fiction, do yourself a huge favour and run don't walk to buy the shows and read some fan fic, and know that I envy you, I wish I could experience the show again for the first time.  *sigh*
