TV Alert: MTV Movie Awards on Sunday

The 2008 MTV Movie Awards are live this Sunday night, but with a disturbing lack of female nominees (is anyone really surprised?), I’ve realized that you might more incentive to watch than usual. How does this do it for you?

OK, so the Pussycat Dolls might not exactly provide a huge musical presence, but the aesthetic boost certainly doesn’t hurt, does it?

Additionally, there are some lovely A-listers scheduled to present awards as well; Sarah Jessica Parker, Lindsay Lohan, Charlize Theron, Katherine McPhee, and Megan Fox are only a few.

Hello, Megan!

My shallow tendencies aside, I can’t really ignore such an obvious opportunity to see drunken celebrities act like, well, I usually do on weekends. After all, who can forget the fabulously groan-inducing Sarah Silverman jokes about jail-bound Paris Hilton a year ago? If only Mike Myers wasn’t hosting this year; I foresee more Love Guru plugs in this show than the American Idol finale.

But, amidst all the (hopefully) inevitable crazy, there will be a few awards handed out, with a few nominees that I actually care about: For starters, Juno is up for four different awards: Ellen Page for Best Female Performance, Michael Cera for Best Male Performance, as well as for Best Kiss and Best Movie.

I think it will, sadly, lose to Superbad as Best Movie and Tila Tequila predicts that Daniel Radcliffe and Katie Leung (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix) will win for Best Kiss. (Major props to any reader that can explain to me why she was asked to weigh-in in the first place!)

For Best Female Performance, Page has some competition as well: Amy Adams (Enchanted) Jessica Biel (I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry), Katherine Heigl (Knocked Up), and Keira Knightly (Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End). I never saw Enchanted, and I am going on good faith that all Chuck and Larry nominations were slipped in by some intern as a joke right before the press release, but I think Page, Heigl and Knightly all have a fairly good shot. This one may be tooclosetocall.

Other nominations of interest include Angelina Jolie (Beowulf) as Best Villain and Nikki Blonsky (Hairspray) who should — but probably won’t — run away with the golden popcorn for Breakthrough Performance. (I’m betting her straight-tween-girl magnet of a co-star, Zac Efron, will take home that prize.)

So, will you be watching? And if yes, what’s motivating you? Did I miss your favorite nominee? Or are you (like me) just hoping for another troubled starlet to get sent to The Big House in the next 48 hours?

Maybe I'm a delicate flower...

... but the photo of Megan Fox was a little skeevy for me, lovely as she is. I read AfterEllen for the articles, darn it! At least that's what I want to be able to keep telling the I.T. guys.

ooh!

my favorite guilty pleasure award show!

that megan fox photo is ridiculous --> the perfect friday morning indulgence.

and while i love ellen page, amy adams totally deserves an award for enchanted. it's funny, cute and god, are those songs strangely singalong-able.

I'll Be Watching, But...

This is sorta off topic, but --

I'll definitely be watching, but not to see who wins.  I'm only interested in catching a glimpse of the new Twilight movie coming out in December.  I'm a fan of the books, and the cast seems to be perfect.

I'll watch...

Because of tradition. I've watched the MTV awards (both the Movie and the VMAs) since I can remember. And, even though both continue to suck more every year, I can't look away.

Also, daaaaaaaamn @ that Megan Fox photo. Yowza!

~It means pride.~

Nope

I used to watch the MTV award shows, but I cannot stand the commercials. There's more commercials than actual show, too annoying...

I can't even think straight...

Whoo!

 *high five back*

Ha, I didn't think I would find a Twilight fan on here, either.  I was just answering the question truthfully! :-)

MTV Movie Awards 2008

so far the show sounds good, although I have never loved Mike Myer's sense of humor. My favorite year was when Jack Black and Sarah Michelle Gellar hosted. That was great on so many levels, the previews alone had my sides hurting.

"Come on Buffy lets party"-JB

"You know I would hit you if you weren't wearing those glasses right now"-SMG

"I'm not wearing any glasses"-JB

PUNCH and Jack Black screams and his face gets smooshed into a display. Classic. I love it. anyways....the only people I want to win that have been mentioned in this blog are Amy Adams because she's adorable and talented and Ellen Page. You should see Enchanted if you haven't. And her outtakes are adorable. Personally I don't think Michael Cera was in Juno enough to really get a nomination...but it doesnt matter. I'll probably watch 1/2 of it because a good 1/2 of it is relatively pointless.

MTV Movie Awards-Ellen Page

Ok so Ellen Page just won best female performance, which is exciting and now it seems there isn't much of a reason to continue watching this...but I may out of boredom. Sad reality.
