"Grey's Anatomy" new "bisexual intern" is coming in November — with a secretIf the crumbs of the Callica love affair on Grey's Anatomy aren't satisfying your appetite for girl-loving content, help is on the way. Melissa George (Alias, Mulholland Dr.) will be joining the staff of Seattle Grace as a bisexual intern on Nov. 6.
But — spoiler alert! — it turns out Melissa's character has a past with another Seattle Grace resident. Someone you'd probably never suspect. According to Entertainment Weekly, the Aussie actor will play a woman with "a history with — holy lipstick lesbians! — Meredith." Meredith has a female skeleton in her closet? Well, she does love to over-process every emotion that crosses her psyche's transom and is closer to her "person" Cristina than she is to her boyfriend. Paging Doctor Clueless.
OK, I'll play along with the Meredith premise, except less than three weeks ago, EW reported Melissa's new character was being "groomed as a potential love interest" for either Callie (Sara Ramirez) or Erica (Brooke Smith). Sorry, they're taken. And before that, there was speculation that Sandra Oh's character, Cristina Yang, was going to the one to come down with a previously undiagnosed case of bisexuality.
What next? Will a woman roll in on a gurney and turn out to be Izzie's one-time college experiment? Is Lexie going to run into a Candy Striper with whom she used to play doctor? Not that there's anything wrong with that. But it's starting to feel like series creator Shonda Rhimes is throwing big ol' handfuls of gay against the wall to see what sticks. Again, nothing wrong with that. Whatever Rhimes's master plan, Melissa is a welcome addition to the cast, and furthermore, no stranger to Sapphic scenes like this one from Mulholland Dr. with Laura Harring.
In other crazy casting news, look for Papi and the President (The L Word's Janina Gavankar and Battlestar Galactica’s Mary McDonnell) to pop in later this season.

oh my word!!!
Merideth??? REALLY???????
will definately allow the s**t to hit the proverbial fan in the hospital with that one!!!!!!
Awesome...
she's a seriously hot woman. But Meredith?? That's interesting to say the least. Ah, we'll see. Please, God, don't make McDreamy get any funny ideas about this and ruin a perfect girl on girl moment!
greys
I'm kind of pissed at myself.
Why do I read spoilers? Can't I have more self control?!
I like Melissa George. Especially if she is playing a bad ass evil spy undercover.
Any chance that will be her story line? myb she'll be trying to recrute people for Mercy West, with a scalpel and a gun?....
I wont get my hopes up.
Interesting
This is a bit OT...
Since Shonda seems to be (as Badmachine briliantly stated) "throwing big ol' handfuls of gay against the wall to see what sticks" I sure hope she'll get this brilliant idea of making Addison gay, coz, we all know that Addison Montgomery is just too hot, too smart and too funny to be straight (god I love Kate Walsh...:) I mean, none of the men she was with didn't really appreciate her (not to mention, didn't deserve her). She is too strong female character. And, yeah, I actually like PP (though, if there was any chance to take Addie back in Seattle, I am all for it!!!) and I am very glad to see that Addie's is getting back to her old self (coz face it, Addison from the 1st PP season was not THE Addison we've come to love in Grey's). Anyway, I really dig Charlotte King... and my god Addie and Charlotte would be THE.HOTTEST.PAIRING.EVER.
I know there's no way for that to happen, but well, a girl can hope :)
yeah, that was way off topic; hope you don't mind...
And to get back on topic... I seriously didn't see that one coming!!! Cristina -yeah, I def could imagine her having an affair with a woman... Izzie also (actually, I've never lost hope that she and Addison would get together *sigh* they've had great chemistry, too bad Shonda didn't develop that storyline...yeah, again me with my dreaming) hell, even Rose could have experimented... but Meredith - I honestly never thought that! Wow... must say, though, that she definetly has better taste in women than men ;)
You said secret and I
You said secret and I immediately thought Meredith.
I was kind of hoping for Lexie 'cause then they could do that "I'm an angsty intern and nobody pays attention to me so let's have angry sex in the locker room to rid me of my frustrations" ... okay please can that happen anyway?
___//♫♪ let your girlfriend do what your boyfriend can't
not my first guess
Keep throwing the gay against the wall...
Weird. Very weird. And a bit much.
But. I'm not complaining. There's no such thing as too much gay...

I second that.....

Will a woman roll in on a gurney and turn out to be Izzie's one-time college experiment?
Yes please!
I second that. Seriously.
Just started watching Grey's because of Callie and Erica and - while loving them muchly - found myself unintentionally hooked on Izzie Stevens. It's disturbing, really.
what happend?
Me Too
It actually kinda ceeps me out when people (okay, in this case characters) seem to go against who they are (in 'real' life. you know - GA. lol). None of these women read as gay to me, except Erica. I feel like Callie is totally just trying stuff cause she's vulnerable open to herself and in a weird place in her life emotionally, but she's going to discover this 'just isn't [her].' I hope that every strong woman on this show who's not sassy and black is not going to add up to 'she must like women.' Creepy conflation I think. My apologies to one of my favorite characters and actresses for that dig, but if things keep going this way, that's what it's going to look like. Are they just trying to avoid the gay one being George?
my vote is for lexie, 2. Way more likely to 'stumble' into real gayness.

YEAH
I guessed that it was Meredith. SWEEEEEET!!!
just wondering...
home and away
Yeah
I heard about this a couple of days ago. Seriously, I don't care with whome she has 'a history' as long as she doesn't mess with Callie & Erica:p Haha! I honestly don't think that the 'history' with Meredith is going to be something sexual. But it's smart to put it that way, because people are curious now. As a person who couldn't care less about Meredith's character, I don't really care what the history is going to be anyway. We'll see...

Uh-oh
Let me just say, I haven't watched Grey's Anatomy since season 2; I just got tired of it. However, from the AE articles, I think I have a pretty good idea of how the lady bisexual storylines are going to go:
Callie and Erica-One "goes straight", the other "goes gay".
Mellisa George's character will end up with "the gay one", but there will be lots of tension between her and Merideth first.
Christina will become jealous of Mellisa George's character and realize her feelings for Merideth.
Merideth and Christina will have hot girl sex.
I think the last statement was just wishful thinking on my part.
Haha. Amen miniplenty! I
Haha. Amen miniplenty!
I hope to god this scenario doesn't turn into what the past one of the girl characters on "Quarterlife" did. That was so lacking and only reinforced homosexual stereotyping.
Okay, not going to lie, but how funny WOULD it be if Lexi hooked up with the Aussie girl? Hehe, more competition, eh?
I'm surprised that Meredith
I'm surprised that Meredith has a bisexual history, but I'm sure it will be funny. I wish it was Cristina, though.. Cause Meredith probably won't be able to kiss Melissa's character, since she's with McDreamy, and Cristina is single!
Anyway, I do hope that they don't mess Callica up, cause that's the best couple this show ever had!

I can totally see Meredith
I can totally see Meredith with a woman actually...
I wish Addison was a lesbian! haha. HOTTEST. Actually, I prefer Sara Ramirez. Those curves!<3
And Dara, did you not have time to proof read this? I saw a couple of mistakes. Just wondering 'cause I love your writing. :D

Great, another white woman
Your Anger is Showing
Like I care what you think
It's Not That I Don't Care
but on Grey's, really?
Grey's is one of the most diverse shows on TV. It got a bit worse when Burke left of course, but there are still two prominent black doctors in the main characters - and both are in positions of authority over most of the white doctors. Plus we have Callie and Cristina who aren't white, plus apparently the entire hospital is going bi, plus the gay guy who runs the bar and his asian boyfriend. And actually, I read a statistic the other day that only 2% of doctors in this country today are black. So..actually it's more diverse than real life (to be clear, I'm not saying there should be less black doctors on TV because there are few in real life. I wish there were more in real life...)
I'm just saying, take your anger out on a show like Gossip Girl or something that really is all white.
And in terms of this Meredith thing - ordinarily, I'd love anyone being even a bit queer. But in this case, I think it is getting ridiculous so I hope the person who said it is probably non-romantic history is right. It also annoys me that there are going to be all these bi girls - she couldn't have written ONE as a lesbian? Although, I've just decided that Erica is gay, and is lying to make Callie feel better. Even as she says she doesn't want to go below the Mason-Dixon line of Callie's pants either, I just can't buy it. I'm a bit worried this is going the Spashley route and we're gonna get a lot of hair-brushing, but I will try to hold out hope...
I'm annoyed they couldn't include
I'm sorry....
Boo!
What kind of poop is that? Historically repeated poop, that's what. The white feminists said the same thing to women of color and then they f-ed off once they got most of what they wanted and left women of color in the dust b/c whatever they wanted next was more "significant" and more "feminist" than the concerns of women color. They claimed that they didn't want to bog down the "Women's Movement" with "distractions." Why would you want to be a part of that kind of thinking?
"I would rather see a gay white woman on TV than a straight Filipino one."
Does your pride parade go through a minority neighborhood or a White one? Think about it. Just saying a 'gay neighborhood' is a cop-out and intentionally ignores all the gay minorities who don't feel like they belong there. Or can't get in b/c the rent's too high because it's gentrified or they can't find gay activities that don't revolve around White culture.
Realize that the bs dichotomy doesn't have to exist and for us, it doesn't. It is entirely created by people who don't have to deal with a perfectly legitimate reality that the rest of us deal with and see on a regular basis, though not on network TV. I think it's unhealthy to even put that kind of reinforcing sentiment out there, to say "it's okay if hollywood finds one part of me more lucrative (or safer, or more interesting, or more believable) than the other; it's okay if the rest of me remains invisible." Don't negate yourself b/c it makes others feel less uncomfortable. That's in part why systems stay the same, we allow one myth (in this case, the non-existence of X), to remain in operation, while exploding another (in this case, the non-existence of Y), b/c everyone's too chicken shit to mention that the definition of all myths is that they are untrue. Everyone's too afraid of retaliation to mention that it's the whole system that's bogus, so we play the grateful servant, happy with the crumbs.
I refuse to be happy with crumbs, especially considering there are plenty of real portions to go around. In this case, because someone is making them up: primetime is rarely a historical reinactment of anything.

HA!
LOL. See my coment above. At least Callie was a Latina from money for once. Without some pathetic lame immigration story to make her seem more 'relatable' b/c she was supposed to remind people of the American Dream. You know cause, Latinos, otherwise...Why are they on this show?

I always suspected Meredith
I always suspected Meredith had a little girl on girl inside her (.. no pun intended)
Meredith is too thin and
Meredith is too thin and boy crazy. BUT Ms. George is GORGEOUS! :D
Love is innate. So is stupidity.
Meredith?
Boring!!!!
Actually none of the women except for Addison, can even begin to satisfy. But if I had to choose it would be Callie.
Sorry to blaspheme, but I cannot get my head around Callica. No sex appeal for me. I will give it my best shot but the earth is not moving. Not even a tremble. The awkwardness of this couple is just that...but I get that. The actors are doing a good job with conveying it. Maybe they will win me over but we'll see.
But Yay for Ms George. I've liked her since that show she did with John Stamos a few years ago called Thieves. I look forward to her arrival.
Frankly
ok, I've watched the show like, once, but here's my 2. Christina may be a bad-ass, but she seems extreeeeemely heterosexual to me. Merideth, however, I can just see being neurotic and type A enough that she would need to get involved with a woman when she was younger just to make sure she's straight. Can't you just hear the crazy internal dialogue?
"How do I know-KNOW i'm straight..." etc on the crazy
Good call
Good point...when you put it that way, she does seem like a LUG-minus.

i can't wait for her and the new casts in this show! yipeee

i actually swear
i actually swear she played a lesbian nanny on friends
you know the one where joey really likes ross and rachels nanny and then she turns out to be a lesbian!
or am i going crazy?!
you are correct!
she did indeed play a lesbian nanny on friends. joey got all excited when he found out - it's like my favourite fairy tale come true! The princess, the stable boy and the lesbian! was so funny!! i'd have thought that would have been picked up on, here...
especially since i don't remember her in mulholland drive!
the tagline (or whatever you want to call it) on the home page for this story - You'll never guess who the intern has a history with — and it's not your first two guesses. - well, tbh, it was pretty obvious it was going to be meredith! or at least it was to me...
Damn. I was hoping it'd be
Damn. I was hoping it'd be Izzie :(
And high five to the other Izzie/Addie shipper *high fives*
I'm not the only one that saw something there ;)
:)
totally called the history
Wow, I'm really feeling the
Wow, I'm really feeling the love on this thread...
While a new bisexual character on TV is great for representation and all that, I'm just glad she is hopefully going to have her own storyline and not interfere with the Callica thing.
They are confused and nervous enough as it is. Another woman thrown into the mix would not help them any. Just my opinion anyway.
=]
Ill join in on the high five *high fives both of you* Yay and i agree Addie should go total gay cuz shes hot and great! I like Callica but i know one of them is gonna end up going straight. Cuz tv sucks like that.
I agree they are confused and nervous throw another women in the mix and Kabooom you have an even worse situation on your hands, but yeh if that dont work out lets make Shonda make Addison gay that would be fun.
=] yay for izzie/addie shippers.
hey im new just read
hey im new just read something about greys and this leaded me here :)
