Marriage is driving Alicia Silverstone insane

Alicia Silverstone's new favorite hobby is opening her fridge. No, she hasn't become a binge eater — she's just gone a little loopy since becoming (ugh) a housewife. Marriage to a man will do that to you, I guess.

In a recent interview with Britain's OK! magazine, the star of Clueless gushed, "One of my favorite things to do with my husband is open up the refrigerator ... I'll take everything out of the refrigerator while he turns on the basketball game or the football game or whatever game is on. And I start organizing what needs to be eaten first."

Stars live very different lives from you and me.

With no big hit since forever and looks that don't last indefinitely, you'd think Alicia's time would be better spent pursuing acting jobs, not cataloging her crisper. Call me crazy.

And what, by the way, is her definition of with? I suppose her husband, musician Christopher Jarecki, also does the laundry "with" her by going out for a beer while she sorts the colors from the whites. What a guy.

Wasn't there a rumor for five seconds that Alicia might be a little gay? Maybe I dreamt that. Or maybe it was that Aerosmith video, where she commits multiple acts of DWH (Driving While Hot) and cavorts tantalizingly in a photo booth and at a strip club with Steven Tyler's daughter, Liv. Now that's the Alicia I know and love — not this weirdo housewife she's become.

    Ouch. That's pretty harsh. I guess Alicia had better hurry up, as God knows we wouldn't want any older women who are no longer conventionally attractive to be getting acting jobs. And Alicia's time is definitely running out, since she's... goodness... 31! Hag!

    If she's enjoying being a housewife, then why on earth shouldn't she pursue that? It's not the choice every woman wants to make - and I certainly don't believe it's something women should be forced into - but if an individual woman feels it's what's fulfilling for her, then in my view she has every right to be a housewife, and to have respect for that.

    that's entertainment for ya.

    and while she's free to embrace whatever life she wants, surely you can understand one's frustration with a once promising actor who now prefers organizing the fridge to acting ;)

    31, hag seriously she's looking great for her age and why not let her be a regular house wife, what's with the pressure for her to be like a celebrity 24/7 shes not out partying drinking and driving and causing trouble everything that usually leads to celebrity marriage problems and quick divorces. Keep organizing the fridge and doing the laundry theres nothing wrong with that we all do it.

    I would never deny that the entertainment industry is skewed towards younger women, but at the same time we've seen some older women having some interesting roles and press attention recently... Helen Mirren, Judi Dench, and so on... and there are women over 30 who miraculously continue to get roles, and even to be considered sexy... Salma Hayek, Naomi Watts, etc. It may be more practical and realistic about the world to tell an actress to milk it while she's young, but I would have thought on this site we could have been supportive of older women rather than telling them "their time is running out"!

    Anyway, if Alicia Silverstone's life as an actress consists of people telling her that her looks won't last forever, then I don't blame her for wanting to be at home organising the fridge.

    I picked up your sarcasm, you didn't pick mine ;) sure there are actresses who can still get roles after 30; it's not the norm, though, especially if one hasn't made a transition to those kinds of roles (eg, if, most of they are being remembered for is their looks).

    the older women you mentioned are doing fine. If one hopes to get to that age while still being relevant in their career, they don't need people on the internet coddling them up.

    Not that stereotyped traditional marriage should be idolized as the ideal for everyone, but it seems counter to the culture of openness and tolerance to make a snarky comment about it.

    She was probably one of those hollywood bisexuals--never had a gf, but her agent thought it was a good idea.

    Alicia is a vegan and if I remember correctly is growing vegetables in her garden. When your fridge is full of vegetables of all sorts you sometimes go to the easiest one to cook and not the one that will not be good anymore tomorrow. So, one way of dealing with that is looking at the back to see if you have forgotten something or putting what needs to be eaten in the front...

    Anyways, she had a pilot this season "singles table" I don't know if it got picked up.
