Kissed by an alien on "Torchwood"Sci-fi fans probably already know a little BBC hit called Torchwood, a spin-off of the series Doctor Who. Torchwood (an anagram for Doctor Who, because yeah, they are that geeky), follows the adventures of an elite special ops team as they investigate alien phenomenon in the city of Cardiff, Wales — which, as any intergalatic tourist book will tell you, is the place to be if you're an alien looking for a time-space rift.
Now available on BBC America, the same broadcaster that brings shows from across the pond with names like Drunk on the Job and Love Me, Love My Doll (don't you just love the programming people at the BBC?), Torchwood doesn't offer just fast-paced stories, alien gadgetry and quippy dialogue delivered with neat-o accents. Because the show features a multi-omni-pan-whatever-sexual leader named Captain Jack, played by an openly out actor (John Barrowman), it's being recapped over on our brother site, AfterElton.com. But the story lines delve into very fluid ideas of sexuality for all the Torchwoodies. Take Episode 2, "Day One," for example. An alien is loose and inhabiting a young woman's body. The alien feeds off of orgasmic energy. Once captured, the alien is interrogated by Torchwood's newest member, Gwen. Here, Gwen appears to be conducting a cavity search using her tongue. Actually, she's under the alien's thrall. It's hard to explain.
Interested? Torchwood airs on BBC America on Saturdays, 9:00 p.m. ET, with repeat broadcasts through the week. Submitted by on September 17, 2007 - 1:57pm. |

Funny part was that only way
Funny part was that only way after the fact she was made realized to that fact that she was under some sort of an Alien spell and that was the reason why she snog her. Up to that point she didn't seem to mind at all that she was going at it with da girl.

Torchwood - woohoo!
I loved the first series of Torchwood, catching it early on BBC3. Not only was there that slightly disturbing episode, it got better as it went on.
**US spoiler alert**
Quite apart from the many references to Captain Jack's sexuality, there was a later episode that I think has been mentioned here before - Shy computer-whiz Toshi goes on a bit of a bender and ends up sleeping with some girl she's only just met. Of course she then turns out to be a psycho alien, but who knew?!
Now I'm just dying for series 2...
oh yeahhh
oooohoho!!
i just saw that episode the other day (in latin america).. this is too funny..
there was nothing else to watch, so i was zapping a little bit, and i came across this show.. only from watching 2 minutes i could tell it was kind of bad, but then out of the blue i see these 2 women making out!! haha..
so random..
besides, "gwen" has a boyfriend, and she didn't even mind that this chick was kissing her.. she totally took over the make out session
Great Potential
I agree. Torchwood
Gwen!
The kiss is on youtube i believe ;)
Gwen in torchwood is soooooooooo cute! Shes the only reason i watched the series! And shes welsh! Way hey!!
whoa
gwen :-)
yes!
Eve Myles as Gwen
The Recaps Are Great!!
Just in case you haven't read them, they are written by AfterEllen's own bad machine. And they are very, very funny. The recaps are concise with great asides by the author.
Go! Read! Enjoy!!!

I Have To Agree
with Vash and Samfeasor about this episode/series. I was not all impressed with this episode but do think that the series has the potential to be a good one. The plot wasn't very strong in my opinion and somehow the episode didn't have a "groove" (for want of a better word) for one to get into, it sorta jumped around too much. Two things that stand out in my mind was 1) why would the alien take just the clothes of the agent when she was so "in need" and obviously had control over him and 2) Her (the alien's) capture was a bit too easy and predictable.
Once again, the series holds potential and I'm hoping that it taps into that potential and improve.
Hang In There Slym....
each episode gets better. What's good about Torchwood is nothing is predictable, unless they want it to be. I was surprised a number of times throughout the series.
Episode 3 is good, but I think the series really starts picking up with episode 4 "Cyberwoman"

Thanks For The Heads Up
Brenda, I'm pretty sure that it does but feel a lot more assured now that you've validated it. I do think this is a series that I will definitely enjoy getting into.
Thanks again.
