Torchwood: I shagged an alien

Torchwood, the hit spin-off of the everlasting British sci-fi series Doctor Who, has a very special episode this week. This Saturday, Torchwood team member, computer whiz and occasional odd-girl out Toshiko Sato has a close encounter of the lesbian kind. Set your DVRs, girls.

Feeling a little lonely and underappreciated, Tosh meets a sassy blond named Mary in, where else? A bar. Mary has a gift and a secret for Tosh, played with consistent awesomeness by Naoko Mori, whom you might not recognize as the actress who played Sarah, Saffy's friend on Absolutely Fabulous.

I know it's spoilery, but here's my favorite line, after Tosh and Mary, uh, get to know each other.

Mary: Say something.
Tosh: So, I'm shagging a woman and an alien.
Mary: Which is worse?
Tosh: Well, I know which one my parents would say.

Torchwood airs Saturdays at 9:00 p.m. ET on BBC America.

    Didn't like the evil lesbian alien thing, but Naoko's brilliant as a newly in love Toshiko.

    I am watching in Canada, so we are a few weeks behind BBC America,  So far I am enjoying it. I like Jack, but how do you not like a ex time agent who never dies.

     Do you mind if I ask you why you did not like the evil lesbian alien thing?

    Naoko Mori was also the Spice Girls pregnant friend in 'Spice World', which Jennifer Saunders also had a cameo in and in the most recent season of AbFab Naoko's character Sarah became obsessed with guest star Emma Bunton, lol

    Anyways, she's a great actress, hope to see her in more stuff!

    This episode it establishes that Tosh, even tho' she's carrying a torch for Owen, could be happy with a woman as well. Maybe next season we'll see more of that.  I'm crossin' my fingers.

    I wasn't quite sure what to think the first time that I saw it. There are a few femme fatale/lesbian cliches, but after a viewing it a couple of times (just for research purposes obviously!) I really liked it. 
    Like the whole of the Torchwood series 1 it can be a bit patchy but it is camptastic. Stick with it and I defy anyone not to shed a tear in episode 12 Captain Jack. If you haven't watched the series yet try this week, go on you know you want to!

     in the second episode, i think it was, Eve Myle's character made out with the alien stuck in the girls body. it wanted a man, and even though she was initially surprised that she enjoyed the kiss, she wouldn't take no for an answer after the alien tried to push her away. of course she went back to being straight at the end of the episode.

     i haven't really been watching it but i'm glad they had another lesbian moment on this show.

    There are differing opinions on this show but I found it great when I caught the series during it's UK airing.  The genius behind the UK Queer as Folk can write Sci-fi as this and Doctor Who show.

    Anyway - without giving anything away there is also a lovely exchange between Tosh and a co-worker at the end of the episode that further supports the Tosh isn't a person who limits herself any longer.

    NO WONDER I never meet any interesting aliens women... bars are too smokey and too crowded for me. Seems the aliens know more than me! Dammit, I am always the last to know.
