I miss Willow and Tara more and more every dayAbout a month ago, Dorothy Snarker gave you the news about Amber Benson's new film, Race You to the Bottom. Well, the reviews are in, and it should be no surprise to Benson fans that she's pretty much the only good thing about the movie.
The New York Times said, "Ms. Benson is a lovely actress with a vulnerability that can be extremely touching, but she enjoyed more chemistry with Alyson Hannigan on Buffy the Vampire Slayer than she does with Mr. [Cole] Williams." Duh. And that's why the Times is my favorite newspaper. Elsewhere in Post-Buffyland, Alyson Hannigan can still be seen weekly on How I Met Your Mother, and can be heard in the new comedy film Farce of the Penguins. Farce parodies the documentary March of the Penguins using real penguin footage.
Alyson is credited as the "Hottie Penguin," which doesn't sound like a very meaty role until you read some of the other credits: "He's so gross Penguin," "Hey, that's my ass! Penguin," "Pissed Penguin" and "What's global warming? Penguin." Some celebs who lent their voices to the film got to play penguins with names: Christina Applegate as Melissa, Drea de Matteo (Adriana from The Sopranos) as Ester and Harvey Fierstein as Sheila, to list a few. I don't know. Penguins are cute and all, but I don't think this one can be saved, even if it does feature Alyson Hannigan as a hottie bird who can't fly and Harvey Fierstein as anyone named "Sheila." I plan on seeing the movie, despite the bad reviews. I'm not sure whether that's a good idea, from what I've read in this post and the NYTimes review, but at least I can say that people warned me.
I never expected Race You to the Bottom to be a good movie, but its nice that its gone around the states a bit and that Amber Benson will get some good exposure out of it . Maybe it can get Ms. Benson, who is one of the coolest straight people out there, some more roles and some $$$. And maybe a guest spot on HIMYM? That would be nice.

My adoration of Amber has grown tremendously in the last few months. I look forward to supporting her career, no matter how bad the movie.

there's no other tv character that has grabbed my attention more than Tara. i was obsessed with sarah michelle gellar when buffy came out but when tara came on board, there was no comptetition....
I miss Tara more than most buffy fanatics, she's a fictional character and i want to marry her, that's kinda sad. but maybe with the new comic joss whedon will have her make an appearance even if a brief one....
Meh, nothing can be as bad as
Nothing can be as bad as the movie Gryphon where she played a fighting princess. The only good thing of that movie was that a lot of skin could be seen.
So I'm willing to give the new one a try

A Reviewer to Watch
Just a quick FYI: The NYT reviewer in this case was Jeannette Catsoulis, who writes regularly for the NYT and an alternative Las Vegas paper once called The Las Vegas Mercury and now called (Las Vegas) City Life. Her reviews are consistently smart, funny, and right on the money, as far as I can tell, and her byline is *definitely* worth watching for.

I must be the only queer girl in the world who found Tara/Willow boring and passionless and prefered Kennedy and Willow. That social ineptitude/shy vulnerability that Tara had was not endearing to me. Give me a headstrong slayer any day.
If they had let Tara look like the sex kitten pictured above I might've changed my mind.

I quite enjoyed the whole Tara/Willow storyline. Mostly because I just adore Amber Benson and had seen her in previous movies and such.
Then again, I absolutely adore Kennedy/Willow as well. Iyari is just... Wow.

@JBLuver I love Kennedy/Willow and it is truly so sad that we know so few things about Kennedy... and that a lot Buffyfans don't like her, is just because she is the new love interest of Willow.... oh well, remember when Tara came on board... same old same old... with the exception that she (kennedy) was on air only half a season so no one could see how good Kennedy is... :-)
Sometimes i thought that T/W was boring but i kinda liked them too. And i bet that behind closed to doors and in Joss's mind Tara was one mean hottie... see above... but then again i am a weirdo that loves to read Tara/Buffy ff *G*

Why Can't They...
Just make a damned film about Willow & Tara and be done with it? Anything they made would be just like, fantastic (Don't quote me on that if it ever happens and it's BAD) and would be wonderful and smoochy and singing and dresses and innuendos that you actually get to see, not dream about. You all know what I'm talking about!
And is GirlTrash a movie, or a web-thing only? Because that kinda sucks! Thanks for the link, though, Marilyn!

absolutely brilliant. if they made a w/t movie, i would go see it a million times, a Buffy movie would be amazing as well... has anyone actually seen race you to the bottom yet? i don't care whether it sucks or not, as long as i get my amber fix. as soon as it comes to seattle i'm taking my favorite gay boy to see it with me.

The Penguins
Just to be a little different, I wanted to say that this penguin video is one of the funniest I've seen. Someone sent it to me last year and I put in my Keepers file. Every now and then when I need a laugh I'll watch again.
GREAT photo of Amber. I always thought she was attractive, but this takes it into another realm. I'm looking forward to GirlTrash.
