Amber Tamblyn and Sophie Monk lock lips in "Spring Breakdown"Every year during graduation week, the college I attended also hosted various reunion years. One time the 30-somethings of the 10-year reunion threw quite a memorable bash. In this same spirit Spring Breakdown follows Ashley (Amber Tamblyn) as she embarks on an outrageous spring break, only to be followed by her Senator mother’s appointed chaperones, Becky St. Germaine (Parker Posey), Gayle O'Brien (Amy Poehler) and Judi Joskow (Rachel Dratch).
These three extremely funny ladies ruled the '90s and are still stealing girly hearts today. All three women, though straight, often play interestingly queer characters, whether it is through gender presentation, quirkiness or straight up sass, making them popular lesbian icons in their own right. But to add to the dyke draw, one of Ashley’s adventures along the way includes a steamy girl kiss with blonde Aussie hottie Mason Masters (Sophie Monk).
Even as the crowd gawks and Warrant’s “Sweet Cherry Pie” blasts in the background it, feels OK to watch with prurient interest. It may be an experimental kiss for a straight girl, and it is surely aimed as much at the male audience as the female, but it’s a comedic coming-of-age story wherein the nerd finally gets some action.
If experimental bisexuality is part of college growing pains, so be it! Ashley learns from the three older ladies that you can be a nerd and still be beautiful and have fun. They, in turn, get to experience a spring break they never had and relieve their own independent “Women Gone Wild.” It’s a flick that looks hilariously almost poignant and I am perplexed and saddened that it has been released straight to DVD. But at least you can pick it up now. Submitted by on August 5, 2009 - 2:00pm. |

Poison/Warrant>>
Are you sure the song isn't 'Cherry Pie' by Warrant?
Poison/Warrant>>
Ummm..OK, I see that you guys corrected that the song is by Warrant and not Poison but really, the song is called 'Cherry Pie' not 'Sweet Cherry Pie.'
Yes, I'm embarrassed I know this fact but in the end, a fact is still a fact.

ive been wanting to see this!!
and actually, i had no idea Amber Tamblyn was in it! But Jane Lynch, Parker Posey, Amy Poehler?? heck yes.
now, while i love amber as much as the next smart/offbeat/&sassy actress, i cant help but still be perturbed by her relationship with David Cross. sure, he's hilarious. but he's also like 20 years older! It's a little Manson/Wood-ish to me, except instead of heart-shaped glasses and goth, you've got cut off shorts and hair plugs....

i love amber tamblyn. a lot :]
i hope this kiss doesn't turn out like the paris/rory one in the gilmore girls spring break episode.
Best Movie Ever
Picked it up immediately because of the three main women, Parker, Amy and Rachel. Knew it would be a hit. Didn't know how awesome it was going to be (haven't bought it yet but have rented it more than once despite the strange looks and remarks "did you know you just rented this?" from the cashier lady). Rachel Dratch really needs to be in more films. And Jane Lynch is so awesome I don't feel I need to address it.
But one of the best bits for my geeky fangirl mind were Amber Tamblyn's two best friends. Mae Whitman, who will forever in my heart be known as "Bland" from Arrested Development and Sarah Hagan who can be seen as a Potential in season 7 of Buffy. Like I said I am a geeky fangirl I really enjoyed seeing the two young actresses from two of my favourite all time shows.
