Angela Bassett gets her starLast spring, scribegrrrl blogged about the 2008 inductees to the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and noted that Angela Bassett — owner of one of the best sets of biceps in Hollywood — was slated to be among them.
Well, yesterday was her big day.
Wearing a dress that lay bare her biceps, Angela Bassett tearfully acknowledged the honor.
Although it's hard to take the Hollywood Walk of Fame too seriously, especially given the ambiguous criteria for selection, I don't find it difficult to appreciate anything that makes Angela Bassett happy. Because the Yale grad is brilliant, and very lovely. And it makes me happy to take any excuse to look at pictures of Angela Bassett.
She's been lovely as historical figures, such as Rosa Parks.
And, of course, Tina Turner.
(If you haven't seen What's Love Got to Do With It lately, check out the trailer here and watch this next clip. Talk about showing off her biceps.) She was also lovely pairing with Laurence Fishburne (Ike to her Tina Turner in What's Love Got to Do With It) onstage at the Pasadena Playhouse in August Wilson's Fences.
And she was a little more butch, but still lovely, as Mace in Strange Days.
And she's even been lovely in very bad movies, such as Mr. 3000.
And Vampire in Brooklyn.
She was lovely paired with Taye Diggs as Stella, when she was getting her groove back.
But even though Taye Diggs is fairly easy on the eyes, I prefer her in this pairing with Diane Lane.
If looking at pictures of Angela Bassett is not enough, you can also catch her in Meet the Browns, which opens today. Submitted by on March 21, 2008 - 3:04pm. |

Angela Bassett Finally Received Her Star
For us film fiends
... she's also done wonderful work in two John Sayles movies: Passion Fish (1992) and Sunshine State (2002).
IMDB says she going to be in a flick about Toussaint Louverture; looks like she's playing his wife opposite Don Cheadle, directed by Danny Glover. I'm there already!
Sunshine State
I thought about looking for a still from this because I loved that movie. (Angela Bassett and Edie Falco...does it get much better?)
Somehow, I've managed never to see Passion Fish, though. I worked in a video store about 15 years ago and brought it home probably half-a-dozen times without ever watching it.
Passion Fish
gorgeous
She Can Turn the World On
...with her smile. Smart, beautiful and talented, Angela certainly deserves her star! One can forgive her turn in "A Vampire in Brooklyn," for her amazing depiction of Tina Turner. Wow! That scene when she finally fights back in the limo is one of my all time favorites of her work. The high emotion conveying the depth of her character was right on the mark.
Great photos and article; thanx Ace14.
dazzling woman
it's about time she got one congratulations Angela
Yay!
I just saw her in Meet the
Did you see...
Just a few weeks ago Angela Bassett did an interview with mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves on a public station. I think it was WLIW. Anyway the two of the were both lovely to listen to and watch.
My hometown girl...
Love her. Love that she gave a shout out to St. Pete.
