Oscar winner and X-woman
Anna Paquin is coming to a small screen near you -- provided you get HBO. The 24-year-old actress has
signed on as a lead in
True Blood, a new HBO series from
Six Feet Under creator Alan Ball. The drama is based on the book series
Southern Vampire by Charlaine Harris.
The show unfolds as some vampires move into a small Louisiana town and mingle with the locals. Among the townfolk is Sookie Stackhouse (Paquin), described as "an innocent waitress who can read people's minds."
Hmm, a Southern gothic vampire drama starring the artist formerly known as Rogue. Sign me up. If only Anna were playing a vampire, and perhaps wearing PVC (àla
Underworld -- hello,
Kate Beckinsale), it would sound perfect. But, as is, it's still intriguing. Another supernatural role for Anna, but at least this time it sounds like she can touch people.
