Joss Whedon's version of Wonder Woman still doesn't have a star, but Priyanka Chopra's name is being tossed around. Chopra herself will neither confirm or deny, and you know what that means.

I must admit I was never a fan of Lynda Carter, so I have an open mind about this -- as long as Angelina doesn't get the part, because that would just be annoying.

Who'd you like to see slinging the golden lasso and flying the invisible plane?

Eliza Dushku! She could be (even) hot(ter) as Wonder Woman!
I agree, Eliza would be a good choice and although I have a top 10 list in my head - I can only surmise that Joss Whedon will do what he almost always does...
go with a relative unknown and make her a super star.
Lucy Lawless!!!!!
jordana brewster!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Eliza all the way!
Lucy Lawless is a good choice as well.
scribegrrrl i can't believe it! you were NOT a fan of lynda carter?!?! but...but... what about her ample bosoms?! bosoms and bullet deflection--that does it for me!
Yeah, Eliza, Lucy..all the usual suspects would be great..except I too think Joss will try and cast a relatively unknown actress. I'm interested to see who gets the part.
It's true, Misty! What can I say? I think it's her eyes. I have nothing against blue eyes generally, but Carter has those snake-like pale blue eyes. Maybe that's also why I don't like Judy Collins, or Meg Foster, or Spencer's parents on SoN. I like me a brown-eyed girl. :)
Okay, like I've said to anyone who'll listen, (and to Joss himself -- telepathically of course.) Mary Elizabeth Winstead will make a good WW.
Seriously, she looks almost like Lynda, though I admit, she may not be able to play the part well but who really goes for acting anymore these days, right?
I had heard long ago that actress Morena Baccarin was slated for that role. Joss Whedon is unquestionably loyal to those who work for him and he often tends to hire people that have worked for him previously. She played The Ambassador/Companion Inara on his series Firefly and in the movie Serenity. I knew that he was looking for someone with Greek features because the original Wonder Woman has Greek origins.

Lucy Lawless.
I think Catherine Zeta Jones would be perfect for the role of Wonder Woman... Failing that, I wouldn't object to Eliza Dushku. *drool*
Years ago I would've suggested Demi Moore but I would hazard a guess that the producers would consider her too old now.
Speaking of Firefly, how about Gina Torres? She'd be fantastic.
I used to think it should be Catherine Zeta Jones, now I'm in the Lucy Lawless camp. Now I've got the theme song stuck in my head!
I think it should be Charisma Carpenter. I think she's perfect for the roll. I'd settle for Eliza failing that though even though I think she's maybe too short for it.
I never cared much for Wonder Woman, the comic or the tv show. I found the outfit to be a turn-off. I mean, what sort of superhero would wear that get up? I know that Superman looks pretty silly too in his leotard, but at least he doesn't run the risk of showing any 'gina with a high kick.
Now, I'd love to see Eliza Dushku as WW. I just love her, in that celebrity crush sorta way.
Yes, Lucy Lawless most definitely. But if she is not available... Kristanna Loken!!! Or Erin Daniels?
Joss said that the WW he's writing is in her early twenties. So, that leaves a lot of favorites out, like Lucy Lawless, Zeta Jones and my personal favorite Jennifer Connelly. And I love Eliza, but I think she's too short for the role. Another name tossed around was Katharine McPhee, who I think is gorgeous and actually looks like WW, but I don't think she can act.
Right now I don't have a favorite, but I wish they get someone who looks the part and can act (no female Brandon Rouths, please).
Wow, you guys are a tough lot if Miss World 2000 isn't pretty enough to play Wonder Woman.
So far, in my humble opinion, Joss Whedon can do no wrong. I'm looking forward to him picking an unknown as well. He's true to his vision, and if Firefly is any indication, I like what he sees.
i always used to pretend i had those bullet reflectors when i was a kid...hell i still do it now sometimes. anyway i'd like to see someone totally unknown (but of course totally hot) play wonderwoman.
CHARISMA CARPENTER. 'nuff said.
Angie Harmon. No question.
I've been keeping track of suggestions at comic book fansites. Lord, the things they suggest! But sadly, still no final script. No script, no greenlight. No greenlight, no movie. So we're left expecting the next Harry Potter flick.
I think WB expects a young adult to play the role, so when they do a trilogy the aging won't be noticeable. So no Salma Hayek or Monica Bellucci. They'll start with a Wonder Girl and finish with a Woman. :(
Jessica Alba aaaand her lips!!!

Except for killing Tara.
Lucy Lawless. I will watch ANYTHING with Lucy Lawless in it.
Um, not that this was overtly suggested by anyone so far, but to clarify from an Asian (especially South Asian) perspective -- Priyanka Chopra is not unknown on this side of the world.
She's one of the biggest actors of the new/young/swanky Bollywood world. Background: Bollywood is the name of the film industry in India (though I do think the name is lame), and is the largest in the world in terms of how prolific it is.
Also? She's smoking hot. As it was pointed out earlier, she's also Miss World 2000. That picture does her no justice. However this one does!

As an Asian queer (and, no, not her publicist) I'm thrilled to hear about her as a choice. I think Joss rocks, and I gotta give him major props if he chooses her. Of course, I wish she would stop dawdling and jump at the opportunity already! India gets so much crap for its queer attitude, and some of it is deserved, but it's also a country that's huge on female empowerment. Go Priyanka!
Hmmmm...maybe I should apply to be her publicist.
Nooo!!! Priyanka Chopra is beautiful, but she's a STICK!!! Wonder Woman, as put by creator William Moulton Marston, needs to be a positive and strong role model for girls, "Not even girls want to be girls so long as our feminine archetype lacks force, strength, and power. Not wanting to be girls, they don't want to be tender, submissive, peace-loving as good women are. Women's strong qualities have become despised because of their weakness. The obvious remedy is to create a feminine character with all the strength of Superman plus all the allure of a good and beautiful woman."
With that in mind, the comics are great in depicting a strong WW, which Bruce Timm (I hate him for this) has refused to draw a "body builder" type for the cartoon, which just means a muscularly toned WW.
For this movie to work, they have to cast a physically strong actress (c'mon -- she's WW, for chrissakes!) and they need to make sure she's not overly objectified. Beautiful, sexy, confident -- not objectified.
Yesterday, Liz wrote that Morena Baccarin was slated for the role of WW. Of all the people mentioned in the comments, this is the one that made me sit up and say YES!!!
If you haven't seen "Firefly" or "Serenity" you should. She is one of the most beautiful women I've seen. She just makes me drool.
As far as the fighting goes, I don't think Sarah Michelle Geller came to "Buffy" already trained to do battle.
Oh be still my heart. I now am looking forward to finding out who will play Wonder Woman.
I agree that Lucy would be awesome except for two reasons she's already attatched to xena so that won't work and if she played WW where would that leave the Xena movie? but as for my picks top in no particular order
famke jannsen (no chance tho since she's Jean Grey and 40)
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/datura56/famke-janssen-original.jpg
jemima rooper (even if she is british)
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/datura56/jemimahot.jpg
selma blair (i know she's way too tiny)
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/datura56/selmaface.jpg
zooey deschanel (she could be the quirky WW)
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/datura56/zooey.jpg
rhona mitra (she's british too much she's be awesome)
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/datura56/rhonamitra.jpg
evangline lily (not sure why but i can kinda picture it)
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/datura56/evangeline.jpg
robin tunney(i just really like her)
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/datura56/robin-tunney.jpg
I don't know about anyone else, but personally I'm really excited at the prospect of
an up-to-date, well-written, empowering, non-objectifying female hero movie.
About time, I'd say. If anyone can do it, Joss can.
Oh sure. Whedon can do it. Eventually. Someday. In the not-so-near-future...
why not Angelina? She has the face of a goddess and would be perfect for the role
ELIZA DUSHKU without a doubt.
I know Whedon will make the right choicce...
Definitely not Angelina. She is far too over-exposed for this project. If Joss can't get Eliza Dushku (although actually I think she's too short) then I'm all for casting an unknown and letting the story and direction speak for itself.
Kate Beckinsale
Evangeline Lily would be quite delicious in the role.
I just see a few good names like Evangeline Lily, Eliza Dushku, Rhona Mitra, Zooey Deschanel (she´s hilarious), Jordana Brewster, but i also think in Eva Green (i like the way she look a little dark and misterious on Cassino Royale).
I also think that the new Wonder Woman should be someone under age of 30.
But it would be really funny to see Lucy Lawless holding the Lasso of Truth...
Rhona Mitra. Hands down.
amanda tosch...she has the eyes, lips, chest and she is tall!!! yummy!!!
I'm also for Jordana Brewster
I'd be all for Eliza only WW doesn't have that badass edge. I don't know that I could look at Eliza in that outfit and not laugh a little. Then again there isn't an actress alive that I wouldn't laugh at a little. I would love to see Eliza again as a kick ass super hero, but I'd like to save that role for something with a little more twist.
I have several candidates in mind:
Karina Lombard (The L Word, of course!) 5'9" and has the physicality. Maybe too old for what Joss has in mind.
Amanda Peet (Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip) She has the physicality, but is only 5'6".
Terry Farrell (Deep Space Nine, Becker) 6'0" and has the physicality. Maybe too old for what Joss has in mind.
Elsa Pataky (Maria from Snakes on a Plane) She may be too short at 5'4".
Rhona Mitra (Nip/Tuck, cop/half of the Carver) 5'8" and has the physicality.
Valerie Cruz (has had small parts in many shows/films)
Lauren Lee Smith (Lara from The L Word) I know this seems strange, but think of her in dark hair and ass-kicking attitude.
And I'd vote for Evangeline Lilly and Jordana Brewster.
Lucy Lawless is a Goddess and while I do think she might be a bit old for the role considering Joss wants someone in their 20's she is such a tremendous actor that would bring such richness and passion and conviction to the role, I think the age can be overlooked in replacement for a convincing performance. And let's also remember she's Wonder Woman and has to look the part, meaning she has to look formidable, tall and buffed. Lucy's got the height but she would definitely need to work out and from what I've read up about Lucy's impression of WW compared to Xena and her RL exercise regime, I'm not so sure she would be willing to go through such a strenuous workout regime in order to get the muscle she would need in order to look convincing. I believe Morina Baccarin, the one Joss is favoring, is a bit small - you really do need a tall woman. I mean, she is an Amazon, after all. And as far as the blue eyes, the original illustrator drew her with blue eyes. I know Joss wants someone with Greek features and the comic book refers to her as Greek but the Amazons weren't Greek and the original writer didn't draw her as looking very Greek other than having dark hair. All the woman recommended for the role would have to do some serious buffing up because they're all so thin and would be laughable performing feats of strength. Mayeb they could get Linda Hamilton's work out trainer.
Kate Beckinsale
Rhona Mitra
Jordana Brewster
Those are definitly my top pics.... however Kate Beckinsale has already denied doing it and said she doesnt want to...
Honestly, I like all those suggestions, but my main issue is that none of them are true to the newer--arguably truest conception--Wonder Woman who is more ethnically and physically correct. Personally I would love to see a mediterranean woman play Diana.
Rachel Shelly. Or Lucy Lawless.
Jessica Alba / Biel!
