Bitches get stuff done: Amy Poehler discusses her Emmy nomination

Saturday Night Live has always been classified as a variety show by the folks who make the Emmy laws (yeah, I have no idea who those people are either). This year, however, a rule change pushed SNL to the comedy category, and the only Emmy contender left standing was Amy Poehler.

Poehler is up against Kristin Chenoweth from Pushing Daisies, Jean Smart from Samantha Who?, Vanessa Williams from Ugly Betty, and Emmy favorite Holland Taylor from Two And A Half Men for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series at this year’s Emmy Awards.

She chatted with L.A. Times award guru Tom O’Neil this week about her chances of winning in such a tough category. “There may be some last-minute injuries,” she told O’Neil. “There might be some Nancy Kerrigan, Tonya Harding thing coming your way. You never know. Maybe I’ll reject the award on behalf of someone. I’ll think of something controversial. It’s better to burn out than fade away, right?”

She paused to tell O’Neil to add a hip-hop beat under her interview before he broadcast it. She said she wanted the whole thing remixed.

Actors are only allowed to submit one episode for Emmy consideration. Poehler chose the episode in which Tina Fey returned to host Saturday Night Live.

“I probably rocked about 10 different looks in that episode and probably burned through a lot of wigs,” she told O’Neil. “Purely by wig count, I’ve got a good chance.”

The episode featured the now famous “Bitches Get Stuff Done” segment from “Weekend Update,” where Fey reported that it’s a great time to be a lady in America, “and not just because of that new yogurt that makes you poop.”

“What bothers me most is that people say Hilary Clinton is a bitch. Now, let me say something about that: yeah, she is. And so am I, and so is this one,” Fey said, pointing to Poehler. “You know what? Bitches get stuff done.”

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are my favorite comedy team ever. Oh, how I would love to see them walking arm-in-arm with matching Emmys.
