LUPO A LESBIAN? EUREKA!
In a Q&A with the cast of the quirky drama series Eureka
during the Sci Fi Channel’s press tour this week, actress Erica Cerra
said that her character, Deputy Jo Lupo, is "coming out of the closet"
this season (which debuts July 10). Josefina "Jo" Lupo is described
as "Eureka’s deputy sheriff, a New Jersey girl and former U.S. Army Ranger."
From the way Cerra made the coming-out comment on the panel, it’s not entirely
clear if she was telling the truth or just joking around, but Sy Fy Portal’s
taking it seriously,
and it would make sense for her character. Here’s her official photo:
If Erica looks vaguely familiar, it’s because she played Alice’s vampire lover
Uta in the third season of The L Word:
Quite a difference, huh? I guess my mother was right:
When it comes to looking your best, makeup and fangs make all the difference!
GIRLS ON FILM … AND BY "FILM," WE MEAN REALLY LOW-TECH
As many of you are aware, I conned my girlfriend Lori into doing a TV roundup
video blog with
me last weekend, and we had so much fun (and received such nice encouragement
from y’all) that we’re going to do it every weekend. Well, most weekends, anyway. So look for a new video from
us on the blog late Saturday or Sunday morning discussing what we watched this
week (and probably going off on random tangents like we did this time about Maeve Quinlan‘s clothes, Renee O’Connor‘s
hair, and how Lori never listens to me).
In related news, we’re going to be announcing a new contest soon to find other
talented AfterEllen.com video bloggers! The short version is that you can vlog
about anything pop culture-related; you have to be willing to do it weekly if
you win; and yes, there’s a small monthly stipend involved, but you’d really
just be doing this to help launch your celezbian career. To qualify, all you
need is a webcam, a sense of humor and at least one lesbian or bisexual woman,
so start corralling your (girl)friends and brainstorming topic ideas now,
and we’ll give you all the details the week of July 9th.
For those of you creative types who prefer the typewriter over the camera,
AfterEllen.com is also searching for a witty, smart and sassy writer to join our
team of freelancers. We’re looking for someone who can write
articles like “Karman and Malinda’s Top 11 Lesbian
Fashion Accessories” and “The
Top 8 Celezbrity Embarrassing Moments." In other words, fun but pointed
humor about lesbians and bisexual women in entertainment and the media. This
doesn’t mean we’re only looking for comedians — we’re looking for professional
writers who are meticulous about their facts, well-versed in lesbian entertainment,
and chock full of new ideas. This gig would be a continuing one, with at least
one article per month to begin (and many opportunities for fame and glory in
the future). If you think you fit the bill, please send your resume and
two published clips of your writing to email@example.com.
BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE!
Season 3 of The L Word will be released on DVD in the U.K. on September 7th.
The contestants for CBS’ Big Brother 8 have been revealed, and while
there’s a gay man among them, there don’t appear to be any lesbians.
Yet another reason to
like Army Wives: Creator Katherine Fugate wants
to write in a two-parter for Renee O’Connor next season. But you know how
it is — creators are often overruled by network execs, so go to Lifetime’s
Army Wives message board and let them know how much you want Renee
(on the show, I mean!).
The AfterEllen.com staff is taking the the Fourth of July off (next Wednesday),
so you won’t see any new content on the site that day. But we’ll be posting
new articles and blog posts every other day next week. Because you know what
they say — no rest for the wicked!
That’s it for this week! Check back next Friday for another edition of Best. Lesbian. Week. Ever.
