Best. Lesbian. Week. Ever. (April 10, 2009)

LESBIAN QUOTE OF THE WEEK NO. 1
"The thing that saddens me, as a gay writer, is that a beautiful six-week story has been reduced to a facile argument about six missing seconds of screen time … What is a beautiful lesbian storyline has now been hijacked by interest groups, and it will now make it harder for us to do this in the future."

— Channel 7′s Bevan Lee about the controversy over the lesbian storyline on Australia’s Home and Away.

THIS WEEK IN QUEER WOMEN ON TV
Note: There are no spoilers about future episodes, just updates on what has already aired, but click here if you want to skip these updates and go directly to the next page.

Show/Episode: College Hill: South Beach — BET, reality
What happened: The housemates — including bisexual music major Alyson — oversleep after a night out partying and show up late to the voter drive they are supposed to be running. Much arguing and finger-pointing ensues.

Show/Episode: Home and Away — Australia, drama

Charlie and Joey on "Home and Away"

What happened: Last week, Charlie kissed Joey, then freaked out slightly and decided to go away for a few days to think. This week, she returned and tells Joey she is attracted to her, but is choosing not to act on those feelings, because she can’t imagine being gay. Joey is crushed and promptly moves out, going back to live with her brother (who conveniently showed and apologized for throwing her out). Charlie mopes around missing Joey whenever she’s not working, and when Hugo asks her out again, she tells him she’s taking a break from dating for awhile.

Show/Episode: All My Children — ABC, drama
What happened: Reese is just hanging around Pine Valley defending herself, basically killing time until Bianca returns to the show on April 24.

Show/Episode: Guiding Light — CBS, drama
What happened: Olivia helps Natalia prepare for her wedding, with lots of longing glances between the two, but they’re both still going along with the idea that Natalia’s actually going to marry Frank. For now.
What else you need to know: Major happenings next week! Click here if you want to be spoiled.

Show/Episode: Los Hombres de Paco — Spain, drama
What happened: No clue, since I couldn’t find any English recaps or subtitled videos for this week — if any Spanish-speaking readers want to give me a rundown next week, please do!

Show/Episode: Hospital Central — Spain, drama
What happened: Maca and Esther are finally back together! (Sorry, no other details than that — same language barrier with this show that I mentioned above).

Show/Episode: Hollyoaks — UK, drama
What happened: Sarah moves back in with Mike to help him out with his parenting duties.

Show: Verbotene Liebe (Forbidden Love) — Germany, drama
What happened: Charlie asks both Stella and Carla to accompany her on an overnight wine tasting trip. Due to a supposed misunderstanding about the hotel reservation the three women are forced to share a room. Turning her match-making efforts up a notch Charlie insists on taking the single bed, making Stella and Carla share the double. While Carla is off making important business-related phone calls, Charlie and Stella get more than a little tipsy tasting wines. Spurred on by liquid courage Stella plants a kiss on Charlie just as a horrified Carla returns. The next day Charlie pretends not to remember anything.

Verbotene Liebe
