Avast, cuteness! Tina Fey swashbuckles onto Sesame Street

Today’s blog post is brought to you by the letter C. As in, C is for “cuteness.” C is for “Can you handle this much cuteness?” C is for “Cut it out, you’re making my face hurt from smiling at all this cuteness!” Seriously, are you ready? ‘Cause this is ridiculously cute.

On Monday, Tina Fey guest starred with Elmo and friends in the premier episode of the 38th season of Sesame Street. The 30 Rock star is one of a slew of big names to make their way to where the air is sweet this year, including Jon Stewart, Anderson Cooper, Rachel Ray, James Blunt and (as already mentioned in B.L.W.E.) the Great Panted One herself, Ellen DeGeneres. But now that I’ve seen Tina’s appearance, I can say they’d better bring their A games. OK, fine, only if A is the letter of the day. But you get my point.

Tina’s sketch followed the show’s season-long theme of literacy. To wit, she burst in with her motley crew of bookaneers. They were the Pirates of the Care to Be Readin’. And her battle cry was, “Library cards, ho!” The cuteness was truly at mad genius levels. Catch a clip here. If that doesn’t warm the cockles of your heart, then you’re just a hopeless scalawag.

In an interview with TV Guide, Tina said she immediately agreed to appear on the venerable children’s series. Her two-year-old daughter Alice is apparently a big Elmo fan. (Don’t you just love that she named her daughter Alice and not something like Moonlight Tiger Agent Wind?)

So, was she nervous about dueting with the red, hairy rock god of the preschool set?

“I was only nervous because Elmo sings really high and so I had to sing up in Elmo’s key, so I sounded really screechy. [Laughs] But I think I got it.”

There should be a rule that Tina guest stars on every show. Every single one. With her bi-curious shoes and smart-girl glasses, she makes each appearance an instant comedy classic. If you can handle one last jolt of cuteness, check her out on The Ellen DeGeneres Show earlier this year. I have to go lie down now. This is just too much cuteness for one day.
